I have never encountered any of that and I am in two fairly active trading guilds. Some guilds are actually full and have a waiting list because they are limited to 500 members.

And I don't see a problem with a good guild being a little picky about who they invite - it is less work to just not invite someone to join than it is to monitor their c=input and kick them later on.

Heh, I was randomly invited to the same trading guild twice without asking for an invite. Just running around minding my own business.

I was kicked from it twice for not participating... Completely besides the point!

Wasn't a fan of the, ahem, LEET Trading Guild life. Got too many emails that read like corporate memos. Felt like I was back at the office.

Especially that sternly worded memo about equal opportunity and the chat system. Kind of weird. Maybe I didn't look at chat enough, but I never saw anyone say anything offensive.

You know how it goes, one person craps their pants and now we all have to wear diapers.

-I'm sorry, what was the question?...Yeah, I have a copy of the memo.

@EnviousStruggle ...just check out the guild section of the forums...you should have a good chance of finding what you're looking for there and arrange a guild invite...

yeah, one big positive of establishing some type of auction house for people would be to allow everyone to participate in the trading process...

I can 100% see where these "leet" trading guilds are coming from, and I 100% support guilds having requirements to join. But that doesn't mean there aren't guilds without high standards. Those guilds just aren't for you. Simply ask for a guild that has lower requirements or no requirements. They won't be as good as the best trading guilds but then again the best guilds only want the best sellers.

I would generally agree being picky about who is invited to a guild is not necessarily a bad thing as inviting someone looking to RP all night to a guild full of min / maxers trying to down the hardest content probably is not a good match.

However, locking the ability to trade (outside of spamming chat) behind guilds, setting guild roster limit at 500, and having a small number of locations with decent traffic bid out to the highest bidders results in this nonsense of guilds that exist just to sell crap calling themselves 'leet'.

Anyways OP you can thank ZOS for tying trade to the silly guild trader system, restricting guilds to 500 members, and having very few actual desirable trader locations.

But hey, it sure adds a lot of fun and engagement to the game knowing one needs to beg for an invite to a 'trade' guild just to sell items in game to other players without spending all day spamming zone chat, doesn't it?

I think if you ever took on the role of trying to manage a Trading Guild you would quickly see why people are so up their butts about it. It's not an easy job, and it's incredibly demanding - it requires people to essentially make the game their real life in order to sustain the guild for everybody else.

It's not a fair market in ESO - and the competition for prime trading space is real. You're either serious or you're not going to have a trader, simple as that.

The reason GMs do this kind of questioning is for 2 reasons - 1 to weed out people who won't contribute - and 2, to pay dues to people who do contribute (I.e. when they ask who invited you, it's because they're gonna promote/incentivize that guy for his actions).

Thankfully the clan I got into is super cool, and our leader is also nice - I've had some text exchanges with him. I didn't have to jump through hoops to get in though. I just asked - told him what I would contribute, when I could - and boom de la bing, I'm in a trading guild.

If you're trying to get into the position of being a trader, the least you could do is go through a basic interview process for the person dedicating all their time to make sure you have an avenue to trade in the first place.

Yhea im really happy with my choices in guilds im in one of the big trading guild ( in which you just pay weekly fee) and others are pretty big pve/pvp friendly guilds other one is mine for privet friends and last one is trials guild i never asked or was asked requirements to join guilds however there was that one time....

After the 12 man trial it was just two of us chatting and he said " your" DPS is so huge...... i quickly answered with " thats what SHE SAID" .... (it was late and im a smart gluteus maximus) ... so anyway he proceeded with " im a high officer of this guild ... ... you have a honorer to join one of the best guilds ...but i need to ask you few questions.... so im like "sure go ahead ask..."

    The questions were

1 what set are you running i would love to know
2 how much gold you have ( i remember he said weekly donations were like 25k PER CHARACTER!!)
3 what time you will be playing trials and what time i will be on
4 Whats your wd and stamina
    5 VMA score
6 you would need to provide facebook and email address for guild notification
7 there will be recruiting times when you will need to wear specific armor and banner and need to paint all your set in specific colour at ALL TIMES
    8) addressing officers by Sir or Ma'am
    9) All trial drops will go to the leader who will distribute them
    10) If you get requested by a higher rank then you need to drop everything to go and help with their needs regardless if its dungeons trials or to craft them items.
    11) you need to have a tank healer and DPS and if they need one of those you need to switch and choose it right away.

"Ohhh you don't need to answer those questions right away as they will send me email with questions where i need to answer it"... me " so ummm so like a test to see if i pass...thats funny... .......wait you not joking??... yhea thank you but im not interested ..."

Unfortunately, although it can be unpleasant to deal with this kind of stuff, it is needed if a guild wants to stay in the main trading hubs.

But yeah, I imagine it can be really annoying when you are trying to get in. I was lucky I got in a big trading guild when things were not so strict (like, two years ago or so?). It is stressful to try to keep up with the requirements when you are going through a particularly busy time, too. But when I think of how annoying it is, I also think "at least I'm not the guild master". Because, really, administrating one of the truly big trading guilds must be a nightmare. The thought alone of having all that responsibility, that if I mess up then 500 people will lose a trading spot, would probably make me give up on the first week.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.
