Stygian set doesn't work -- short video proof

The stygian set has some serious issues. Given it's 200k gold asking price for the weapons, players might want to know about this!

The max magicka bonus is sluggishly applied. Sometimes it entirely misses cloak. See here:

Notice that my max magicka is 35k, and remains 35k until the second cloak.

But it gets worse. Even when the max magicka is applied, tooltips update, but skills do not. See below:

In this video I demonstrate the tooltip value of dampen magicka, it's actual value (25% higher for 5 light armor pieces). I then go into stealth. Stygian waits a few seconds after I'm hidden, and applies max magicka. I demonstrate my tooltip dampen magicka value which is now higher. However, after casting it, it's actual value remains unchanged.

You need to test the actual damage. I think mine is working fine, despite the slow UI refresh rate.

Test non-Styg set damage, equip styg set and do same skill for damage and compare. Otherwise there's not enough to go on.

Did you see that the shield didnt update with max magicka? That's not in line with any other form of max magicka bonuses. Dampen magicka is influenced by max magicka, except for the stygian set.

Also, I did test damage values. It is not an easy test and makes a difficult video, but the short is that it is being applied in a very broken way. Your spell damage increases immediately, your max magicka does not. There is a global 'tick' where the max magicka is increasing.

Cloaking mid-DOT will not increase dot strength. Shields do not take the max magicka value. The increased damage is equiv to 20% spell damage, not 20% max magicka + 20% spell damage.

I admit I missed the final cast, don't know why. But I will mention that dampen isn't fully leveled so it could be bugged for that level or other things etc. It is still worth testing damage just to have more data points/evidence. If there is more confirmation I am very interested as I have been using this set, and when I first tested it, I notice UI lag, but not actual effect lag. I don't use dampen on my stealth bar ATM so I am not sure about numbers. Might retest when I play later.

It's not. Dampen magicka level III will increase its strength with every form of max magicka except Stygian.

If there one thing people should know about this game it's never trust the tooltip text. There have been many occasions where a certain level of a skill is bugged. What I see is that it isn't stacking properly at Dampen Level III. That's leaves a lot to be tested to prove what is bugged and how it is bugged. But free free to keep quoting me to bump this. At best it is Dampen Level III being bugged, at worst Stygian is bugged. In my use I haven't notice anything more than UI lag. I won't be able to play for more than a few hours to retest myself so I figured you'd be game to do further testing to flesh out the extent of the bug.

When I have Necropotence on, when I summon a pet, the added magicka will not show up until i swap bars. Any chance this is what is happening?

To test, put on 5 armor pieces (not weapons) go inti stealth (or whatever) and see if the bonus happens, if not switch bars and see if that makes it show up more quickly?

i farmed 5 stygian 5 necro on magic nb and had the same problem, Stygian didnt proc on cloak, only ever now and then, was really strange

Okay, have have done a little testing on my own and have noticed that Annulment and morphs (I have absorb magicka) ISN'T stacking, even though the tooltip is, as per OP video. However the damage is increased in stealth both from sneaking around and from using shadowy disguise.

So there seems to be a bug with Annulment not accepting the new magicka pool. Makes me wonder about other pool increasing skills such as war horn? but I haven't got that to test.

I tested this wearing purely my 5 piece of Stygian and only slotting harness(fully leveled). For damage I tested with only wearing Stygian and having harness and conceal, and then harness conceal shadowy disguise.

10K tooltip standing on harness, 11K in stealth, but shield remained 10K when activated.
9.8K crit conceal while standing, 12.2K both plain stealth and shadowy forced stealth vs 9.9K wearing only 4 pc missing 160 spell damage glyph.

So I think that at the least spell damage is stacking. It is too hard to test max magicka stacking too. I don't know ZOS's math behind enough things for that, and I'll reiterate:

I am very suspicious that you're only getting the max spell damage bonus, not the max magicka bonus for concealed weapon. Also, remember that the tooltip might not actually be true (like harness magicka).

You can test this correctly by putting on a non-bonus 5th piece with the same enchant, using surprise attack from stealth with major sorcery. Compare it against 5 piece stygian without major sorcery. If the damage is the same, we know that the max magicka is not being applied.

Other skills are also affected. Stygian is not applying bonuses to ticking dots, unlike other spell/max magicka bumps. One I tested was cripple-- the dot does not increase in power if you cloak while it's ticking.

My number for conceal were actual damage on a mob, not the tooltip, but I am sharing your suspicion.

Okay, so I found a comparable piece to substitute and this is what I found.

5 pc Stygian:
12.2K stealth crit Conceal

4 pc w/equal stat replacement pc with major sorcery buff:
11.2 K stealth crit Conceal

The most curious thing I noticed is that when I used my substitute equivalent piece I had one more spell damage. One whole spell damage more standing and one whole spell damage more in stealth with major sorcery. Which was 2815 Spell dmg vs plain Stygian 2814. So why there is "1" spell difference is beyond me, but unbuffed Stgyian was outputting more damage than the equal spell dmg setup.

So I am seeing this as more of a annulment bug...

Just encase anyone asks:
I was only wearing 5 piece Stgyian or 4 piece plus one equal substitute piece. The only skills I had slotted were harness magicka, concealed weapon, and shadowy disguise.

I don't have the chance today, but healing ward would also be a good test. Happen to have a resto staff? My stygian set involves two weapons, so I can't.

My 5 piece involves 2 weapons too

... but I think I have a spare body piece I could finagle in, but my sports ball team is playing soon and I am watching that with friends so I don't know when I can test.

Healing Ward is working, 3.8K standing 4K stealthed (actual cast and tooptip, but I had to restart my game as it wasn't working first time). The UI is always slow to update but I cast damage/shield right after casting shadowy disguise and they do the updated numbers. So again annulment seems to be the only bug, other than magicka melee being worthless. I find that I can burst close to 20K opens on LA wearers, but then the damage falls off so fast that if anyone is able to shield/heal I no longer do enough damage to out do anything, and being full stupid to get any damage I pop the sec they breathe back on me. 3K conceals aren't going to out pace rally/vigor and there's not enough damage to burst down a shield, since by that time they'll be countering and you'll be praying that double take dodges anything and that you'll be able to cast shields in time and cloak away. 9 times out of 10, if you don't kill them you're toast.

So If you hate yourself as much as I do go ahead and try to play with this set. Just remember you'd be doing twice as much free damage if you went stam proctard, and you'd be able to roly poly away a lot more. DKs will perma root you, mag sorcs will shield+curse/streak you, stamsorcs have hurricane so you won't likely get bonus to begin with, stamNB will proc you when your reveal is better at revealing yourself than them, templars don't have less than 27K health so you can't get them to begin with.... and other magicka NB are just as scared to be out there as you... so if you find one maybe you can get them before they get you. It is real fun stuff I tell ya.

However bombing is now viable from the safety of LOS. So yeah... Trying to decide what I want to do in game now. Time to revisit some alts and being to farm all over again.

I would also add, on top of annulment and its morphs not working with the max magicka bonus from Stygian, that clouding swarm , morph of bats ultimate, isnt working with stygian properly. When you cast the 5 seconds duration invisible bats ultimate, you'll have half the time invis and half the time not invis , which break the purpose of using Stygian with invis bats, maybe its time to rework the bats ultimate so it works properly and actually fully invis yourself for the whole duration.

Stygian works well on damage, max magicka, max spell power but UI display... is not working.

However, stygian does not work with shields, for now.

Planned on running the same build on my bomb blade with Grothdarr. Too bad Homestead has killed Clouding Swarm and devastated my idea.

Guess it didn't matter since its not working anyways. Good investment I made in gold jewelry, lol.
