Super Thief is fun

Many of you may know this, but I have just got back to refining and making a super-thief, char, and I'm finding it really fun to play.

- Khajiit
- Nightblade
- All Medium armor
- 5 x Night Mother's Embrace
- 3 x Night Terror (I used to use Nightshade set, but that was limited to lvl CP100; Night Terror is available in 160)
- Whatever else to give you stamina
- (Optional) Blade of Woe from Dark Brotherhood

With the four reductions in detection radius (Med armor Improved sneak, Khajiit Stealthy, Night Mother, & Night Terror) stacked my char is virtually undetectable.
I never even look around the room to see if someone's there. I can steal from a desk with someone sitting there. Rob the bank, whatever. I've been picking a chest and some guard walks right up to it and I rob it while he's standing over me.
I do get caught once in a great while. Usually tho, that's just for killing (Blade of Woe) someone with another NPC around.

Thieve's Guild Veil of Shadows keeps Guards from noticing you as well.
Also if you get your Legerdemain up & have Locksmith at 70%, you can just run around smashing locks. Makes it really fast.

Anyway, I find it very enjoyable to be able to pretty much walk around invisibly and steal whatever I want.

That is the direction I have been heading with my NB. It is a lot of fun. I still have trouble picking a lockbox in someones store without getting noticed but will keep working on it. Might need to build a thief suit also.

Why would any of us know this? Seems like a rather pretentious assumption. :D

TG was a breeze with night silence, night terror and vampire, and that coupled with Legerdemain maxed out on my woodelf. A real OP sneak sprinting build.

LOL forgot to add that as a Nightblade, slotting concealed weapon literally made it hard for me manuver my character with that speed while sneaking, if you haven't tried it, (which I highly recommend that you should) you don't know what you're missing. Loads of fun in IC too.

My bosmer assassin has a similar setup: 5 piece night's silence (speed), 5 piece night mother's embrace (detect radius/cost reduce), and bosmer racials all combine so that if you see her, it's only because...

    You're next.

I've built an assassin (not a Dark Brotherhood one, a real one). Using 2H for wrecking blow from sneak attack. Sword Singer for the +400 dmg and Spriggens for the Ignore Armor. Hits for ~35-50k depending on the armor quality relative to my level, regardless a one-shot on any not boss 1-T mob. On my back bar I have a brawling set up, with charge & cleave (+ WB, Mom & the Reavers Mark).

But I'm thinking of throwing in 5 Night Silences and 3 Night Terror as a fast and sneaky build instead of Spriggan. The downside is that I'd need DW on my back-bar, and I can't really decide if I like that, as 2H is so fun. And then switch to 2H for assasinations, DW for speed.

Or I could maybe gear swap when I get close?

Opinions? I haven't found much of a write up about this play style.

Yes this is my favourite play style also but after thieves guild going back into cyrodil I had to change to dreugh king for a bit more survival and dark stalker is a must ,also it helped with my speed pot addiction (oh that doesn't sound good) :#

I assume you meant Night Mother instead of Night Silence. Silence doesn't stack with vampire.

By the way -- Night Mother's Embrace has a unique-equip dropped item that's a sharpened dagger, so that's pretty easy to get. (It's from a world boss.) There also seems to be a quest reward in the set that's a precise sword, named after Naryu.

Too bad one can't equip two of the daggers at once!

Sounds like fun playstyle :) Maybe you could try vampire as well? And if you don't bother about dmg that much, wood elf could be another choice, due to their stamina recovery. Just thoughts :)

I have a similar character. I agree it is a lot of fun. BTW with DW dagger and a bow back bar golded out, you can still put out some great DPS numbers. Not min/max obviously but open world / public dungeons / delves / 4 man dungeons you can still get into the 20K plus range dps wise. I was going to build another suit for that, but haven't found the need.

btw, Are you certain that NM and NT reductions stack? I guess I'm about to figure it out.

BTW, for those that don't know, DressingRoom is an amazing addon that allows you to switch sets at the press of a button if you aren't in combat. This means you can have a set with NT and NS, and then when you get close to the target switch to NT and NM...

thinking of doing something similar... how essential do you think the movement speed malus reduction from night's silcen is vs an additional detection reduction?

I could either go with 4 detection reducions (khajitt, medium armor, nm embrace and night terror) - then i would probably use 5nm embrace, 3 n-terror and 4 leki's focus which looks awesome and has nice 4 piece buffs

or i'd go with 5 nm emrace 5 ns and 2 whatever?

I only learned about it recently. And then I tested it and it seemed true.

I think they changed two other things about those unique items, namely difficulties putting the into inventory & banks. (They used to have restrictions, but now seem to behave like any other items.) But when it comes to actually equipping them, There Can Only Be One.

I think the movement speed buff makes a big difference in fun. I'm not sure how essential it is to actual success.

I usually run with 3 stealth buffs -- race (Bosmer), medium armor (7 pieces), and armor set (Night Terror). My problems with being detected almost always occur with mechanics that take me out of stealth, or because I'm careless. That said, I hit my Cloak skill a lot when I'm trying to stealth past a group of mobs through a hallway or tunnel. And there are some public dungeons so crowded with mobs it's easy to screw up when trying to stealth through them. I think it's possible in any public dungeon to do the Mage's Guild daily quest without a single fight, but I find some more challenging to accomplish that in than others.

I now believe that, while other stealth speed stacking is being removed in Morrowind, Concealed Weapon still stacks with Night's Silence or whatever to allow you to stealth at 25% over normal walking speed (buffed or unbuffed by Major Expedition as the case may be).

Whew! Had that not been the case, I would have retired one of my two favorite overland characters, as well as abandoning "criminal" gameplay in general.
