I try for a steady income of writs, stealing, and gathering and do it on multiple characters. If I put my mind to it, I can build my nest egg a bit each day. I'm in a top end trading guild so I'm very motivated to get things on the market and sold so I price my things very competitively for a quick sell and restock. In most MMOs, materials seem to sell the best and that is where I focus. It may not make me rich quickly but it adds up.

Then other times, luck can strike out of the blue and you find that perfect sharpened weapon after a farming session. Or like I did, an aetheric cipher dropped for me after killing a trash mob in a delve doing a quest---last mob of my evening play session. I hope to make a tidy profit from that sale.

I find that if I grind in a game, things aren't as enjoyable. I must prefer to be surprised or build my wealth a bit each day.

Casually doing Writs/Dailies every day with the occasional day or two where I spend upwards of 4-5 hours of actual content playthrough on a new character with the rare infusion of Guild Trader sales (nothing over 10k). Ive easily made 450,000 since mid December. Ill be at 500k by the end of this week. All of this while dropping money on bag, bank and horse upgrades for newer characters.

If I had more time, more energy and interest to put into what downtime I do get. Id probably be swimming in millions of gold.

*IF* I logged in EVERY DA&Y for 1 hour per day: 10 writs * 5k/writ * 30 days = 1.5 million just for the gold from the writs.

That's assuming 10 Max level characters.

That isn't counting any sales of mats you get from refining surveys , etc.

So if you are dedicated and play every day, 1.5 million isn't too difficult.

Oh, and it's assuming you have the mats. I have stacks of them from hirelings.

You would run out of mats pretty fast. Hirelings dont give you enough on their own to sustain writs, not even close. You also need about 70 skill points per toon and they must be at level 50 in all crafting lines. This is not exactly trivial to do.

A lot of people will point to Writs, which I am a big fan of. What people leave out is that your typical gameplay will support 1-2 characters doing writs. I personally do them on 8 toons, which is approx 32k a day just from turning in the quest. The problem is that this is not sustainable. You will absolutely need to purchase (or spend a lot of time farming) Silk and Rubedite pretty frequently, and occasionally, nirnroot. The rest seems to be pretty self sustaining (I buy a stack of Oko like every 6 months).

I absolutely believe they are profitable, especially after factoring in gold mats, but you need to figure in the input costs. I make about 225k a week from turning them in, and probably spend 50k about every 10 days to buy mats to feed the habit. But again, that is just the gold. The mats makes them much more valuable. So thats like 750k a month, plus probably 8 gold mats a day (average about 1 per toon, maybe a little less).

It takes me 37 minutes to do writs on 8 toons. I do very little else for gold in this game other than sell the occasional unique item I find. I am closer to 8 figures than I am to 6. Haha.

If I was starting from scratch all I wanted to do was make gold, I would just farm nodes for gold mats. I think its not hard to make 30-50k an hour doing that, so then it just comes to how much time you got. You can make tons of gold flipping stuff, but you can also lose your shirt. It also requires that you have some seed money.

I have my characters staggered in equipment crafting skill levels to distribute the use of materials. I noticed I get almost the same amount of Gold from a Max Level Character turning a writ in Stonefalls as a Max Level Character in Craglorn. I think the gold and equipment rewards scale off the characters' level. not the Writ Level. Also now don't the surveys scale off of the character opening them? So if you do a writ in Iron and turn the survey over to another character with max Blacksmithing, I *think* you will get Rubedite.

But yeah, it's not fun for me to do it every day. It's more like once a week for me, so my mats pile up more for that reason. But I could definitely do it for a 30 day period to save 1.5 million if I had the motivation - but probably not sustainably at the same rate for longer than that.

I actually tried that at one point. I found it more trouble than it was worth if trying to do them every day. Much easier to just deal with one level of mat, and most mats in game are top teir anyway. They are actually cheaper than some of the lower level stuff.

5m, maybe 10. I can bang out a few 100k in a day easily when its time to gold out a new set of gear, so I imagine if I dedicated all my playtime to that I'd get significantly over 5m but not all the way to 10m without some really good RNG on drops.

I only have around 50k. The problem is mostly lack of time and other preferences (I only want to PvP instead of grind money)

But if I need 5k badly, I go do thievery a few minutes. It's not hard to earn 5k just pickpocketing and looting chests and selling them at the fence. I bet if I do it for 2 hours a day and only sell blue's and above I could easily make 10k a day or more. Per months that would be easily 300k per month.

I actually didn't know where the average would be, and was genuinely curious about how much gold the average player could make. There are a few very loud people who often make the claim that only a minority of players can make a lot of gold, but from these results, it is clear that those individuals are the ones in the minority.

I kinda suspect a lot of the, "there's no way to make that much money," crowd don't have level 50s, or (at least) never got their CR up to 160. Gold obtained scales with your level, so if you're sitting on six level 20s, your options for earning gold are going to be pretty limited.

    Let me think
Since I'm one of those crazy people that actually fully invested into getting the most out of stealing by maxing out everything stealing related I tend to get a little more out of it then most. I only ever bother selling green quality items and up as whites just don't cover it (although they do help if you need to level your legerdemain up)

    Greens = 108
    Blue = 275
Purple = 1650 (These are so rare that I won't even bother adding it into the end equation as in all likelihood, you're lucky to get 1 a month)

At 140 fences a day, with nothing but greens sold that's a little over 15k (15,120)
    15k x 30 = 450k (453,600)
Now, let's do this with the 3 characters I bother to play routinely and we get 1.35 mil (1,360,800)

Adding into the equation the ~40 blue items that would likely get added to the 140 limit and it gets a little higher
    So 100x108 + 40x275 = 21,800 daily
    21,800x30 = 654,000 monthly
    654,000x3 = 1,962,000 total.

And this is only accounting for all the fenced items you sell. Things like motifs found, those rare purple stolen items, etc. could very easily get that number well into the 5 mil area if you actually bother to try (and not get caught >:) )

I made 700k in last 4 days, but I sold some old gold jewelry from trials and gold tempers. Most of this gold came from playing market. If I lost everything I'll spend two-three days for farming basic money for byuing-selling and then play market. I'll make 4-5 millions in 30 days, I think, if I play market hard and spend all my time in guild stores.

If you lost everything you had except your level, started over from scratch, and all you focused on was making gold for 30 days and nothing else, how much do you think you could make? This is a personal question to you alone in your available time and in whatever method you feel would be best for you. Let's see how hard making gold is to the community.

depends on what you are selling, motifs or IC trophies or rare style mats go well

People tend to overexaggerate. Though 20-30k a day is pretty easy just by playing the game normally.

Anyway, it's just gold. Gold never really got you much in this game, as the BiS gear is almost always BoP. Other than a few hundred thousand to legendary my gear, I've never found it necessary to horde loads of gold.

The only problem with people demanding a higher drop rate for things and easier ways to make money is it would lead to rampant inflation. Taking your example above, if everyone were able to achieve a return on investment of 250k for 2 hours of farming, then those who spend 2 hours a week would still be worse off than those who spend 20 hours a week or 50 hours a week doing the same thing.

It'd start off great as everyone has enough money to buy everything, but if they didn't increase the supply then prices would go up as people could afford to buy more expensive listings above market price. If they did increase the supply to match the demand then with higher values of disposable gold it'd promote either the same outcome or a collapse of prices followed by a steady uptick to ridiculous levels.

By putting in artificial control of the flow and availability of both gold and goods, ZOS and the trading guilds are keeping things currently affordable and within reasonable cost of the majority of the gaming population. I'm sure there's more complicated models and studies done on virtual economies within MMOs, but hopefully the above helps shed some initial light on why giving everyone the opportunity to access more money quickly wouldn't fix anything.

The thread is how much you make during one month, not how much you profit. If you were to play the game farming for that month without spending gold on your own characters or keeping some farmed goods to the side for yourself then yes, its not that hard to reach these 100-500k figures.

As for the figures higher than 500k that are being thrown out? They are not really exaggerating, they are simply considering that they will scam others by selling overpriced items. With the guild trader system in ESO it is really easy to take advantage of other players and rip them off.

I myself probably could easily make 400-600k a month without farming, but I wouldn't pass up a good deal on tempers or mats at a trader. I also am now in the process of buying all the motifs I previously thought were too ugly to wear just for the masterwrits.
