Ayleids

Bowdowntogreatness
It would be kind of cool to play as the Ayleids aka elves. Especially since they were among the first race to live in Tamerail

    Aren't they extinct or something?

More or less; they assimilated with the Bosmer in Valenwood, were wiped out in other areas...we do run into the last Ayleid King, but if there are more around it would be like the uncorrupted Falmer--reclusive, in hiding, not likely to become a player race.

That takes the cake for the most interesting way I've seen someone try to spell Tamriel.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure the Ayleids are all but extinct by now. I say all but extinct because I seem to remember reading an in-game book taking place somewhere a bit before Morrowind's time period in which a woman had an encounter with an Ayleid. I could be thinking of something else though.

Yeah, the ayleids are long gone at this time.

They used to own cyrodil and much of the surrounding lands, once upon a time. Then the alessian rebellions happened, and they got driven out of cyrodil... some small groups survived with the direnni in high rock and the bosmer in valenwood, most escaped to the altmer on the sumerset isles... (hammerfell was the sinistral elves, all to be killed by the invading ra gada later on... while skyrim had been snow elf territory, slain by the invading atmorans, and their survivors mutated into the blind falmer when they sought shelter with the dwemer) and eventually assimilated into the population there. If you see a especially tall bosmer or breton - ayleid blood; if you see an less then golden skinned altmer - ayleid blood.

All this happened during the first era, somewhere between three and two thousand years before ESO.

The only ayleid that was still around is the "last Ayleid King"you meet during the mainstory. And only because he got trapped in Molag Bals prison all those centuries. There are rumors of scattered survivors... but that is about as valid as your average elvis sighting. There -might- be some secluded holdout... an extradimensional city that survived all the trouble... but that is more NPC stuff, and in any case, up to the powers that be.

The one race that's still around to become a possible extra race are their cousins, the sea elves...

Its possible there might still be a community of Aylieds in BlackMarsh, as its a very rarely explored area of Tamriel. But its unlikely we will ever be able to play as an Aylied as they are for all intents and purposes extinct like the Dwemer. This isnt WoW where theyll introduce new races every major expansion. This is what we get. I would be shocked if ZOS ever made more than the tradition 10 races.

i don't think this game is full of surprises honestly, there's alot of fanservice, so i wouldn't even begin to rule out this possibility on that alone

for example, oh, vvardenfell is likely going to be the first full blown expansion pack for ESO, no surprise there

How about we just stop asking for more playable races? That is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

Oh? Because you know what will happen then?

The point is, we are throwing ideas around. Likely many of them will never happen. But we discuss them anynow, and think about which of them -could- happen, and how.

If the powers that be in ZOS decide they want to sell more races in the crown store, they will make it happen.
If the powers that be in ZOS decide they will not bother at this time, it won't happen.

    But its up to them.

And some here want it happen. And thus discuss it.
Don't tell us what to discuss here.

You can state your opinion as to why -you- think it should not happen.
And then face what others think of your opinions.
