When to upgrade gear after you hit Level 50?

benstuartyoungs_ESO
So I'm relatively new to the whole Champion Point system and I have a question about gear. Is there a gear cap (e.g. Champion 100). If so, does it make sense to level to 100 Champion Points (if that's the cap) before crafting/grinding the gear from dungeons? Reason I ask is that I have a nice Level 50 crafted set but I'm not sure when to take the plunge and craft something new.

Thanks!

The CP cap is 570. However equipment cap is 160. This means the highest level gear you can make is 160.
Feel free to add me. I'm part of the Gummy Guars PC/Mac NA server. Master crafter and working on getting 9 traits on everything

There is currently a gear cap of CP160.

Youve worked hard to get to lvl 50, id make some new gear as a reward. Just dont upgrade it to gold. Maybe blue if you have the mats.

Edit: just realised you said you already had level 50 gear.

Get some more anyway - maybe every 25 cps - crafting is fun. Its at CP 160 that it becomes a major resource drain to make new sets.

It really depend on your plans. Gear caps at CP160.

If you are going to continue questing than don't bother at all until CP160, just use quest rewards/drops as upgrades.
If you want to fast farm to CP160 - try to get full set with training traits on you current level.
If you are going to run normal randoms, I would suggest as courtesy to you teammates get at least 5pc blue set, purple weapon and use blue (health plus your main resource) food.
If you are going to start doing vets... well, it is possible, but you will have hard time kicked from the group.
