Would you like to see ESO go free-to-play?

Why would you buy a game to pay for it every month to play? Games should either be free, a one-time purchase, or as monthly payments. Buying the game makes it fall in the one-time purchase category. Forcing players to then pay for a temporary subscription is a bigger scam than the Crown store (with crates still taking the lead).

I don't know about you, but I just bought ESO for a friend off of Steam for 20 bucks for Christmas, and he is playing it for free. Soooooooo....how is it not free to play? The subscription isn't mandatory, and you still have full access to the game without it.

Me thinks you don't know what free-to-play actually means.

    ESO - Free-to-Play
    League of Legends - Free-to-Play
    World of Warcraft - Pay-to-Play
    Hearthstone - Pay-to-Win

    etc etc

Umm. That's what World of Warcraft does. And they obviously have no issues with it. Considering they are still the biggest MMO right now, regardless of the sub losses over the years, they still top the charts.

Soo, you're saying that just because your friend didn't have to pay for it (you payed for him) that it's free to play? Despite the fact that you payed for him so that he could have access to it at all? That is called buy to play. "Me thinks that you don't know what free-to-play actually means"

This post is claiming that you can't play without paying each month. What...do you expect to just get the game for free and play for free? Wtf. This game is FREE TO PLAY.

Yes, we get it. Your friend is too cheap to sub. He is playing for free. Because the little fairies and elves magically made the game appear on his platform, whatever it might be.

And since you keep insisting the game is free to play, you must have stolen a copy, because to play this game, SOMEONE had to PAY something. The game is buy to play.

F2P games are actually MORE expensive especially if you want to compete in PvP or endgame as the best items always end up locked behind some ridiculous paywall.

Looking at you, PWE... With your flagship game's endgame gear costing literally, not figuratively, 1000 USD. And that's just to get it. Tack on another couple of grand for the best upgrades and refinements. Sickening part is that people actually paid for that garbage.

My hope is that when Bethesda and ZOS look at stuff like that, they see it as something they want to stay away from. My fear, and expectation, is that when the look at it, they see another example of something that they can improve on.

Game is on sale for like $20 all the time on steam, what would be the point?

Though i would not want ESO to go free to play. At this point for the last year the game has been the quality of a free to play game. Sadly its just the fact. they only thing holding subs is the crafting bag . its a cheap hostage technique , it forces those that purchased the DLC's to sub to play the game effciently . the last 3 DLC's produced were not worth more then 7.99 . just way to much cheese in this burger and not enough meat to even be considered a Premium game.

Nah. It's already "free to play" you just have to buy it one time.

Free to play just opens up pay to win. No.

Buy to play is best . Free games are so bad because they are not really free .

So free to play means you buy and it never feels free. Buy to play means you buy the game and they STILL sale you the same crap as if it was free to play. Just make it free and be done with it already....

It amazes me that people don't see this. Although, the game is awesome....but my pocket book don't feel like I bought the game and its been without cost since. This is a free to play template that has a cost to even get into...Just make it free to play already...

I dont really want it to go free to play. I am just still waiting on it to be buy to play....without the free to play cost.

Would love to see it back to sub only, however, the game would lose a lot of players. But f2p? *** that ***!

    This is my dream.

Not at all. Bad as it is that it dropped its mandatory sub-fee, as it appears the quality also went down the drain around the same time. But, if it went free-to-play? I'm pretty sure that the game would be in an even more rough shape than it already is. Plus we'd have even less communication and transparency than we have currently.

Not necessarily free, but would be nice to see some sort of flash deep discount sale on Steam for a couple days, say around $4.99 - $7.49 or so. I imagine a lot of current players would buy a few copies to give away as gifts to friends or family on Steam.

No idea about the conversion rate, but it seems a lot of those who start with only the base game end up eventually buying crowns or subscribing later for access to the DLC, crafting bags or other items. So even if they didn't pay very much for the game, many would spend a bit more after playing for a while.

I have changed my mind. After reading the new patch notes, I would like the game to go F2P so that it will have a swift death rather than a drawn out death. Eso deserves a swift death, it had so much potential.

QFT. I was about to say basically the same thing. I voted 'NO', but if ZoS keeps implementing these type of nerfs....why even care any more?

I just made ESO free to play for myself. I'm not giving ZoS another red cent unless this PTS patch was some kind of New Year's Joke.

I currently like Sorcerer and Templar.

Some changes I don't care about, some changes were needed, some changes seem to be adaptable, and all of them need to be played on PTS before getting all Chicken Little and declaring that F2P is the best course of action in response to this update.
