if vvardenfell is the first expansion

Its rumored to be a possible expansion along with hints with naryus dialogue along with datamining. I would literally die of happiness to explore that area of morrowind again in the past and possibly meet sotha sil prior to death and hopefully hear dunmer in their old raspy voices. To me if they also add in pieces of the original soundtrack it would be double overkill for me to hear explore 3 while exploring dwemer ruins of killing cliffracers. Side note, how do you pronounce vvardenfell?

I so hope they find a way to re-use the morrowind soundtrack.

Whilst the content would be fresh and amazing I have no doubt, I'd be just as interested in seeing how Zenimax would work towards and release an expansion for ESO.

From everything we've seen, it doesn't seem like they'd do the "bin old content" thing that WoW does since we'd lose over a hundred sets overnight but on the flip side they can't make us farm the old sets again, just at a higher CP level.

It's a conundrum to say the least, and should Vvardenfell be an expansion instead of a DLC, I can't wait to see their approach..

I am one of the people who thinks Vvardenfell will be an expansion too, and I hope it comes with the Warden class.

As for how it is pronounced, there are some characters that say it in game. Namely, Naryu and Speaker Terenus.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

This game needs a real expansion, would be great, but last word from Mat Firor smaller dlc's more often so don't get your hopes up and like Gina has pointed out data mining does not mean it will be in the game.

IF it were an expansion it should come with:

    Vvardenfell (Whole island, obvs)
Clockwork City (With the area it is located in, rumoured to be the southern marsh area of Morrowind)
    Warden class
    New Trial (Red Mountain area)
    2 new 4 man dungeons.

I'd prefer them to stick to DLC rather than making an expansion.

I went through this with my other MMO. People were demanding an expansion because they thought it'd somehow guarantee the developers made all the things they personally wanted. So they made one and it amounted to 8 months of nothing added to the game followed by what could have been 8 months of DLC released in one go (and everyone had to pay for it separately) so some people burned through it in a few weeks and went back to complaining they had nothing to do, while other people complained about the changes to the mechanics.

Maybe ZOS could do it differently, but I still can't see what they could do in an expansion that they can't do in DLC except bunch it together.

Yes, it has been over a year now. We are due a story update.

Idk how they are going to continue the story even a little bit during Update 13 though ... That will be fun to see how that is implemented. However small it will likely be.

sadly, with One Tamriel, making us "farm old sets again, just at higher CP level" is exactly what they are making us do.

also, if they were to lose over a hundred old sets overnight, it might be a way for them to have a clean sweep of "proc sets" by introducing what they call "balance"

it would be good for the game if they did a full blown expansion. with traditional elemments too not just a solo storyline like Orsinium. some end game new class, and better questlines with bigger rewards.

My gut is telling me though that wont be the case. they will launch a big solo expac like orsinium and raise the price to 29$

I predict that 2017's DLC is:

    Q1: Housing
Q2: Vvardenfell (to coincide with Morrowind's 15th anniversary)
Q3: Clockwork City and Southern Marsh
Q4: Nibenay or the Colovian Highlands. (With Battlegrounds/Arenas)

Murkmire is being heavily reworked I believe, so we won't see that yet.

Mephala's Realm will likely be 2018.

To a point, I'd agree. However, if Vvardenfell is going to be anything like the right size, surely even an Orsinium sized DLC isn't going to hold it.

I would rather them go for an Expansion, include all of the required elements and areas and get it right than try and pare it down to fit.

Vvardenfell is a risk, it has to be executed well, as so many of us have such fond memories of it. Done badly, or cheaply, it may well backfire to ESO and ZOS's detriment.

...also, I have no problem paying for actual content rather than gamble crates.

I don't care if it's a full blown dlc or big expansion as long as it introduces new crafted sets that are just as viable as the farmed ones. Also a new class or two would def bring in some fresh faces as well as old salty vets...

I also hope for a full blown expansion that continues the main story line. I really don't care for these tiny little DLC's that take a few days to complete, and have nothing to do with the main story. If all we ever get are these small DLC's, to me the game will feel like it has no real direction - it will just be an incoherent collection of unrelated short stories.

There also needs to be another trial, or hopefully, a full blown raid with several bosses, not the 3 or 4 bosses that the current trials have. I don't PVP, but they also need to do something to freshen that up. Add in PVP seasons along with rated battlegrounds so they have something new to shoot for. We need things like this to retain the end game crowd. End game players, both raiders and competitive PVPers, are the players that stick around for the long haul. They are the ones that become the most invested in a game. Catering to the casual players with crown fluff and tiny DLC's will only lead to massive overturn in the player base, which can't be good for the longevity of a game.

According to a quick Google search Vvardenfell in Morrowind was actually smaller than Cyrodiil in Oblivion (24 square km vs. 56 square km) and I've heard Cyrodiil is actually bigger in ESO, even though it's missing a chunk.

So they probably could make it the same size it was.

There's a hint given by the prophet after the end of the Orsinium main story, that mentions some of the other possible DLCs (like Clockwork City and Mephala's realm). I'll link it here if you haven't seen it:
