Magicka based dual wielding, how about it!? Dual wands!!!

VoidBlue

It's about time us Magicka users get Magicka based dual wielding, instead of relying on melee swords. Implement dual wielding wands.

Give more passives and options for Magicka users that swords are limited in.

Examples:

Ice wands give more regen
Lightning wands give more spell CRIT
Fire wands give more damage output

Also slow, stun, burn ECT ECT.

It's just a huge shame Magicka users are forced into only swords if you want passives and two 5 set prices.

Disclaimer: does not have to be wands, could be scepters, books, orbs, could even revamp DW skills to add Magicka stats and passives to the other 1h weapons for it isn't just swords for Magicka users.

PS.

For those of you who are having trouble comprehending the poll.

Give them dual wands = yes

Let them use melee swords = no

If anything, I say make a new skill like that's something like a sword with a caster offhand (like in Diablo 3 or Grim Dawn). Make it the first weapon skill line to have both Stamina and Magicka abilities. That way, Magicka characters would have a way to get two set pieces out of their weapons, while Stamina characters would have a way to gain greater utility by crossing a little bit over into Magicka.

With that being said, however, I like this idea more:

This, especially with the possibility of jewelry crafting, would open up entire new worlds of possibilities for builds, Magicka and Stamina alike.

Exactly. Obviously intended to be a skewed poll.

    @VoidBlue

As with all these threads that die fast, you have not even tried to explain the benefit which the only reasoning given in other threads is magika return on heavy attacks which or an extra set bonus is weak reasoning in itself.

Most of the top DD builds use a staff on at least on bar. There is only one guild I have seen that uses swords on both bars and requires a specific gear build and class. The reason for swords on a second bar is not for spell damage, though it is a nice plus.

Wands were never present in the TES lore, so stop dreaming. This isn't a fairytale, the proof is that there isn't a single kid in the whole of Tamriel. So yeah, wands never existed on Nirn and they never will unless Bethesda (not ZOS) decide to implement them in TES6. So no point in dreaming for "dual wielding wands" and it just sounds ridiculous anyway.

If anything, a staff + sword skill line is already more realistic and still, I doubt it will even happen.

Because swords suck and a bigger pool of dual wielding would give more options to Magicka users.

You can have fire/ ice/ lightning wands and it can give more options for passives other than the x more damage melee swords give.

The benefits are boundless if you people would just <snip>!

No, but I wouldn't be opposed to magicka versions of current weapons. I also wouldn't be opposed to stamina versions of current magicka weapons.

For example, a fire staff designed to physically strike your opponent with that does physical damage. A sword made of magical energy that does magicka light/heavy attack damage damage.

    Would it really, though?

If Magicka players get a Magicka-based Dual Wield, then what becomes of weapon setups? The most likely thing to happen, the way I see it, is that people will front bar twin wands for raw spell power and an extra set piece, and back bar Destruction Staff for Elemental Blockade. Since there would be no drawback for Magicka builds running Dual Wield, basically all of them would.

I don't see a Magicka-based Dual Wield adding any build diversity. At best, it would leave things essentially the same, while at worst, it would actually decrease build diversity, because suddenly nobody runs Destro on their front bar anymore.

Spell Books. Since they only hold a staff in one hand while using why don't they add spell books as a second weapon like some other games do. I've seen many games where a sorc will hold a staff with one hand and book in another.

Exactly! Someone finally using their brain here.

Just because the poll says wands doesn't mean it has to be wands, as long as it opens up more options for us Magicka users.

Guild Wars 2 has the concept of a "scepter" which is to a staff as a 1 handed sword is to a two handed sword, it's smaller, more melee oriented, and can be carried with another weapon without looking silly.

I always thought this would be great in ESO, as dual wielding them could solve the problem of dual wield swords being nonesensical for magicka, but retain the mechanic of sacrificing some range for more spell damage. You could even build on the DW magicka concept by having light/heavy attacks be elemental damage, and some kind of a close/mid range attack rather than full range. You could even add a new skill line that synergizes with melee magicka builds.

Yes please! So sick of having to duel wield swords on my magplar. Only intended to try it out but can't go back now - so much more bang for your buck! But hate trying to sustain with it, useless light and heavy attacks and no weapon skills whatsoever. Seems stupid to me that someone would design a system where this is your best setup as a Magick user, would so so love a duel weapon that makes more sense

I don't like wands. Maybe an enchanted blade with an artifact of power, that would be cool, like what WoW did. But two wands? That just seems like some silly edgy Harry Potter fan fic.

I don't mind wands, but dual wands seems kind of goofy. If we really must have something in the other hand, I'd rather see magical artifacts of some kind like crystals, books, etc. However it's done, I'd love to see an alternative to staves for magical characters that want to maintain a pure "magician" look. That said, I'd be surprised if anything like this happens anytime soon.

Just make it possible to Dual Wield Staves, our characters already hold them in one hand anyway, just put another staff in the other hand. Or go the Gandalf approach and do a Staff and Sword/Dagger/Mace/Axe thing. I'd rather Elder Scrolls not go down the Hogwarts path.

Wands, scepters, severed Breton heads, bound weapons - anything to get more diversity. Imagine Ilambris users that can have fire and shock thingy in both hands while having resto on the back bar. Also, combo with shields. Could be great, and no wall building required.

It should be important to note that dual scepters should only have melee skills in that skill line to keep them in balance with the destro staff line being ranged.

Easiest way - let them dual-wield destruction wands (or runestones if wands are too "harry potter" for your liking, though my AD&D characters messed with wands long before that one was even an empty page waiting to be written upon...), using all the usual destro skills, and just alternating the elemental type between right wand and left wand for each use.

I kinda mentioned that back in the follow up comments on my old weapon ideas thread a while back... https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/2914607/#Comment_2914607
