Q: Are any macros acceptable?

Rift went down the route of putting macro's in game - with its own in-game macro system. I guess they figured that they couldn't stop people doing it - so decided that everyone should...

imo, macro's are more useful in games like that where there are a LOT more abilities slotted at a time - and many of them have cooldowns.. Really useful to ensure that skills you ALWAYS want to use when off cooldown always get used - and that if it isn't on cooldown, then an anytme gets used instead..

Can't see much point in them for ESO PVP tho.. I honestly think that most people who complain about them are just upset they lost to a better player...

I'm so confused. When people say macro I think of it as binding more than one function to one single key, let's say 3 functions. In order for you to use the 3 functions bound to said key, you would have to push that same button 3 times. So instead of hitting 1, 2, and then 3, you'd only need to push (for instance) the 1 key 3 separate times. That to me is a macro.

If you bind 3 separate functions to one key and only need to push the key once to have it run through the commands...I thought that was classified as something else =\ I'm so lost.

Both are macros. One is a simple implementation, the latter is far more complex.

Yeah someone explained to me how to get better dps by animation cancelling so i'm guessing all the people that want better dps in vet and such or even normals that leave if its not speed run they want you to run a hardware macro to increase the dps to make it faster, or from the looks of it they're probably using it

i find animation cancelling to be more game breaking then a macro. to set up a macro you have to do the actions first on your own.

I've seen a kid almost get to emp , clearly using macros, he had an ambush> light attack> surprise attack > switch weapon cancel > light attack > surprise attack - put it on the back bar> switch bar cancel> light attack > reverse slice - combo that all happened in about 1 second. - I've been ganked many times- and i can counter 99 percent of the time. roll dodge, heal up, buff up, streak thru, get ready for my turn. but this guys macros were so quick and slick that he slaughtered thru our whole alliance with one button. i wasn't the only one that commented- all of us saw it. i havent seen him around since a few people complained- but yeah- to people saying macros can't be an advantage- they havent seen anybody use it effectively or creatively yet.
the best players can maybe put 4 or 5 hits into a combo uninterrupted with quick cancelling and weaving, but this was a ridiculous 8 hit combo.

Macros are not able to perform anything combat related in this game that you cannot manually achieve unless you're disabled in some way. People might keep saying otherwise but they're wrong. When someone accuses someone else of macroing it is only a testament to how unknowledgeable they themselves are about the game. As someone said earlier; we humans can account for lag and visual cues in the game, a macro cannot. Using macros or bots will not improve your performance past what the best of players can already achieve snd if you feel like you got hit by a lot of attacks over a minimum of time it is either due to lag, loss of sense of time, or in the extreme situation; someone hacking some game code to be able to pull off abilities in 0,1 seconds. Personally never heard about the last one. Macros will not by default allow you to fire off more actions than you would manually be able to.

Macro's cannot do that. They are limited by the same ability cooldowns that everyone else is. If he was doing multiple abilities in a second (ie ambush/surprise attack/surprise attack/reverse slice) - then its either lag or something more game-breaking than a straight macro.... some kind of cheat engine perhaps..

There seems to be a MASSIVE misunderstanding of macros's in the eso community.. ALL they can do is send keypresses to the game client. They can NOT do anything that the game client does not allow. They cannot do anything a human operator can't do. They cannot bypass cooldowns. If this is happening, then it isn't a macro that's doing it.
