Would you like to see ESO go free-to-play?

I'm not confident the servers could handle a bunch of people who will never put any money into the game. The servers lag a little too much already.

    A little?

Lately I've been spending more time waiting for NPCs to load than actually playing. Especially with BLEEPing duelling players every BLEEPING few meters in towns.

Though the game is already almost free to play courtesy of semi-regular extreme discounting.

I prefer to have in this game just children with parents who bought them a game than EVERY STUPID KID. Sorry, not every kid is stupid, but to be honest, adults just buy a game if they want it. I don't want more dunmer ladies dancing naked in Mournhold. Please, no.

I can't think of one free to play game that is not extremely annoying with basic features locked behind pay walls .

Just a few I've played recently so know for a fact aren't like this.

    Guild Wars 2.

    Marvel Heroes 2016.

Star Trek Online (courtesy of players being able to earn cash shop currency by playing).

I'm not a fan of free to play generally - because it is so often cash grabby and that has a terrible impact on game design - but they aren't all like that.

The base game, yes. But if you want an actual, current game experience that will not make you feel all too different from everyone else, or "left behind", you'll need at least the 4-DLC-bundle on top of the base game. Or a sub. That brings the bill close to the 60$ that most of us paid at launch or have paid over time.

Step 1: Buff up the servers so Cyrodiil can handle it.

Step 2: Open up the floodgates.

Also, for those that don't know, F2P console games are now quite common. XBL Gold members get a free download every month. This is exactly why I played Pre-Season ESO (Neverwinter) for about a month.

Absolutely not. I was there when LOTRO transitioned from P2P to F2P, and it wasn't pretty. F2P ruined the game and divided the player base. LOTRO used to have one of the best MMO communities around, and F2P destroyed that. You think ESO is toxic now? Wait until you have professional trolls showing up whose primary objective is to get themselves banned as many times as possible.

The occasional free-to-play weekend (we've already had two that I can recall) should be sufficient for someone who wants to try the game to get a taste of what it's like and decide if they want to purchase it outright. We don't need ANOTHER tier in the player base under what we already have; it's divded enough as it is.

    Originally but not any more.

GW2's effectively much cheaper B2P model forced many other previously subscription only games like ESO to go B2P to compete.

Then GW2 went F2P. About a year and a half ago.

Didn't mean to offend anyone lol, I though this post was going to be 100% yes, guess not.

I'd like the ESO plus sub the mean something.

I'd like ppl who buy crowns to be treated similar to subscribers based on crown totals over periods of time.

I'd like those who don't buy anything but DLC to be treated like good supporters

Lastly...changing the requirements to access the game only changes who can initially access it but for $20 or less, anyone can play so I don't see any value or benefits to F2P

The new version which includes all the DLC has been on sale several times for less than that. Like right now on Steam it's $36.

I've seen the base game for as low as about $12. Buy crowns when they're on sale and the DLC pack will cost you $24 and during its anniversary Orsinium (by itself) was crazy cheap.

The base game is enormous compared to most other MMOs. I'm sure many could enjoy the base game well enough on its own. Might only feel left out if they join a guild and they're off doing DLC stuff.

36$ is far from "free" or "extremely cheap" - which was my point, regardless of exact figures.

I guess it depends ... People in guilds who have only the base game are a true annoyance in guilds. Noone forces anything onto anyone one way or the other, but no matter how you take it, the result is that everyone is adapting to the people who don't have DLCs. Lowest common denominator. The point of playing MMOs is to join guilds and play together, and a lot of group content in ESO IS in DLC.
I personally can live very well without any crown store stuff, with basic mounts, ingame costumes, whatever. But I sure wouldn't enjoy the experience if I was restricted with regards to content.
I guess people who play 100% solo won't care that much.

Definitely not. Buy to play+DLC's/cosmetic shop is the best MMO model imo. I don't want ESO to turn into one of those horrible pay to win Asian MMO's.

    Yup.

I know that ship has sailed, and I know that ZOS is not the studio that can deliver on a subscription game (and make money at it), but I still wish they were, and wish they would.

yes, they are already making not so "micro" transactions in the store, make it free so more ppl can play and stop milking the people that have already pay for the *** game and probably also pays the month too. If ya gonna *** me with the crown store at least make it free for more ppl.

I accept that this is the end-game plan for them. Once the initial purchase barrier becomes a problem for Crown Store sales, they will do what it takes to eliminate that barrier. This means that the game will remain B2P until they think that the "B" results in less revenue. When you can't get people to buy your game, the game is on life-support, so what harm does it do to give it away for free and hope for the best in the cash shop?

Free to play MMOs end up being more expensive than any other model if you want to stay competitive. It is an illusion to think that they are actually free.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.
