Can you log in without steam?

So steam is down and i am unable to log into the game, i have even tried via the launcher "Bethesda.net_Launcher" and it just tells me to do it via steam yet i have friends that have been able to log in? Am i doing something wrong?

Have you tried launching Steam in offline mode? It might work if ESO needs to connect only to its own servers.

I had this problem, but support couldn't be bothered to respond.

Try downloading the client from the ZOS website rather than from Steam. Then open the launcher from Windows explorer like you tried before. Should work.

Offline mode won't work. There is an error at login if you aren't connected to Steam.

I suggest you just be patient unless you want to go through a bunch of trouble for nothing. Steam outages are usually very brief.

I don't have it installed via Steam, so I can't check to be sure, but some MMOs I do install through there will have a Steam launcher and a non-steam launcher in the same folder. One will start steam when clicked, the other will open the game launcher directly. Maybe look for another launcher .exe to see if this is the case for ESO.

Start it straight through the game executable. For example:

D :\games\steam\SteamApps\common\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client

My game is from Steam as well and all my Steam games are in a secondary disk partition (D:) under games\steam.

SteamApps\common are folders created by Steam itself.

Hey peeps.

Thanks for the replies.

Purchasing the game via steam does not give the download button on the ESO website so i logged in via my partners who activated her key via the site and i was able to download the launcher but still no change.

It seems accounts linked from steam need to authenticate which would make sense as to why steam users can't log in. I guess i will have to spend some time with the family a few days earlier than planned

what do you mean default launcher?

i tried using bethesda launcher and put in my ids and all but it says "if you buy games from steam, please start via steam launcher".

if he bought the game in steam before November 2016, he can use both launchers
actually he have two eso accounts instead of one now

@warboyo This may be the explanation for why some people can login w/o Steam and some others can't.
