Warning: New Life Bonus + Exp Scroll Does Not Stack

CynProject
I did some trials and the New Life Bonus with the purchased Exp Scrolls don't stack. Unless I'm missing something (and please tell me).

I did some trials at a mob that gave 674 exp, I applied the New Life bonus and by a calculator it should give 1348 exp, which it doesnt. I then applied a Crown Experience Scroll which should add on 0.5 x 674 exp and add that onto the calculation and it didn't.

I've sent tickets in for support and yet no reply.

Edit:

Proof:

Picture 1: These mobs are near the New Life quest giver. It gave 678 exp. imgur.com/a/hAWbS

Picture 2: This is after I applied the New Life bonus. It should give 1,356 exp but only gave 1.1K. imgur.com/a/Tq7as

Picture 3: This is after applying the Exp scroll. You can see all of these on the bottom right. It should give 1,356 + (0.5 * 678) = 1,695 Exp. but it doesn't. imgur.com/a/LEYi4

This is wrong and needs to be addressed.

Works for me...I know as my new toon has done 7 levels in maelstrom. Never ever did that many with just scrolls. Did you check if the xp boost was active? There is a stupid bug that removes it when you fast travel etc.

Don't need to. It's always been 5 levels before. There is no more xp to gain in there. It's a fixed amount. So 7 is obviously me gaining more xp.

This doesn't make any sense. "There's no more xp to gain in there." In Maelstrom? We're talking about the bonuses applied to using Xp scrolls and the new festival.

678 exp plus the 414 exp(100% of base) you are given from new life bonus is 1092 or about 1.1k now add another 207 exp(50% of base) and you are at 1299 exp or about 1.3k.

How so? I haven't seen anywhere where they give you the base exp for the mob. But maybe I'm missing something.

I'm not sure you know how math works. +100%, for example, we take the number 100 (or 1000), times well, 1.00 (which is 100% in fraction), and then add it, well that equals 200 (or 2000).

It's like this. Imagine you have ESO+ and get +10% XP, so now you get 110% from every kill. Now with the new life bonus it's +100%, that means you now get 210% XP, not 220%. Add a scroll on top and it's 260%. You are multiplying the bonuses for what you are expecting, but that is not how the game works.

You are still trying to multiply the xp shown on the screen, even though that is already modified by ESO+ and training gear. If the XP shown is already 110% or more, then adding 100% won't double it. Sorry, I can't explain it any better.

Okay, you're a character. You gain 100xp. You do not have ESO+. You have Breda's Mead. Instead you earn 200xp.

    Still with us?

You're a character. You have ESO+. You earn 100xp, but what you see is 110xp. You have Breda's Mead, you earn 210xp, which is less than double your 110, because your XP is multiplied by 2.1, not 110x2.

You're a character. You have ESO+ and nine pieces of purple Training gear equipped. You earn 100xp. You see a gain of 200xp. You drink Breda's Mead, your XP gain goes to 300xp (not 400xp) as you were expecting. Confused and dismayed, you consume a crown scroll, your XP goes to 350xp (not 600xp) as you were expecting. Even more confused and dismayed you charge onto the forums and inform us that something has gone horribly wrong.

ESO parses all percentage modifiers together at once before multiplying.

It's the difference between these two, where "A" is the base exp, and there are +10%, +100%, and +50% modifiers applied:

    A + .1A + A + .5A = 2.6 * A

    And this:

    A * 1.1 * 2 * 1.5 = 3.3 * A

For XP, ESO does the first (modifiers applied additively to the base value), where you seem to expect it do to the second (modifiers applied multiplicatively to the base value).

If you'd like to get some insight into some more complex ways that ESO applies modifiers, check out this build editor, as it can show all the equations for each stat - pretty interesting!

What I mean is. There are only a fixed amount of adds and bosses to kill in there. Usually I've only done 5 levels per run, I have never ever done anymore it's impossible as there is nothing else to kill. With this event I am doing 7 levels. Nothing has changed bar drinking from the keg. Always using the same gear, 9 purple training items.

So it's working. Did you rule out it could just be a UI error and not showing but still actually giving you the xp anyway? Wouldn't be the first time something stupid like that has happened..it's eso after all. No need to get so mad. Damn everyone is so frikin angry on here lately.

For fun, let's write the equations out for your three cases ("A" is the base XP, and "x" is any unknown XP boost there might be):

    1: A + xA + .1A = 678
    2: A + xA + .1A + A = 1100 (display rounded to 1.1K)
    3: A + xA + .1A + A + .5A = 1300 (display rounded to 1.3K)

If you solve for A, you get ~422, and if you solve for x, you get ~.5 - and all the equations are correct within the display tolerances. We also found out that you have another 50% XP buff somewhere! :)

Okay, then let me phrase it this way. "Maffs."

ESO only applies percentage modifiers to the base value, not to the final value. This is to prevent hilarious things like stacking up a 1200% XP modifier.

Do you know what the base value is?

Also, @smacx250's calculations. But those sound accurate to what I've seen without XP modifiers (aside from ESO+).

No, that is how math works, Cyn. I realize it's not what you wanted to hear, but @smacx250 is right.

Yup. That is how you account for additional XP boosts. @smacx250 is correct.

Breda's Mead is exactly 100% boost, so the first red flag is that the second case is not exactly double the first. That, right there, says that there are other XP boosts involved.

Base value for most mobs is 414 for non subs... -edited to add- This is for solo hit overworld mobs, not delve/dungeon/publics or groups or multiple non grouped people hitting.

And I believe base value is 455 for subs... For some reason I think their 10% is wrongly added to base and stays part of the base, instead of working like every other exp modifier in the game.

Base can always be tested by removing all training armor and weapons and not having any other exp buffs going.

If someone who is still a sub can test for me, please use only the 100% event bonus and tell me what your hitting... if 910, then 455 is the base for subs. If 869, then 414 is still the base as it should be. No addons required to test, the exp gain can be seen if Loot History is turned on in settings.
