Crown Store stock never actually goes away?

That did NOT work for me.

Honestly, it sounds like you need to get the right support rep. Wrong one, and you're out of luck.

Too bad you can't ask for a staff member that cares about helping, if you get the grumpy one who just tends to give copy pasted responses they get offended and just give you copy pasted responses :(

The tiger senche loyalty mount is the only one they ever specifically said will never be offered for sale. You had to be subbed for 300 days in the first year to get it.

The other "limited time" items had a chance of returning to the store at some point. That was pre-clown crates however.

While it would be really nice and customer friendly to bring the items back to the store for outright purchase, I'm afraid the limited time items will now only return in the clown crates.

did they actually say "never" or was it "no plans" to add it to clown store/crates?

    Hi folks,

We are currently testing a gifting program in which you can purchase and gift currently available Crown Store items to a friend. As this is in the very early stages, we are not yet ready to open it to everyone. We only allow for the sale and gifting of Crown Store items that are actively available in the Crown Store. Those who are participating in the testing of this program are not able to buy Crown Store items that are no longer available. There were recently a few cases where this was erroneously permitted, and have been corrected.

If you’re interested in participating in this program, you may contact our Support team but please keep in mind that this is currently a manual process. We hope this helps clear up any confusion about the program, and we look forward to bringing it to everyone in the future.

Good to know, thanks. Bit of a shame, as I've always felt the Crown Store should just stay stocked with all the wonderful items that have come through it, but it's good to have the confusion cleared up!

Well, the program we're working on is intended to allow our players to gift items that are currently available in the Crown Store to a friend. This is something the community has been requesting for some time now. It could be used to send a friend a gift on their birthday, to award prizes for guild events, etc. The system isn't fully set up yet, so we're testing it out by manually processing the requests. It was never intended to allow for obtaining of items that were no longer in the Crown Store, and it will not allow for that when the program is live.

We're aiming to launch the system sometime next year. We'll definitely let everyone know when we have a better idea of exactly when. :)

Even if ZOS wants certain items to retain an element of exclusivity, putting retired items on a rotating schedule or even opening them up during events would net them some decent cash flow and give those that missed the opportunity a second chance. I wanted that ice pup, but it was only available for 4 days and I was occupied with both my day job and scripting for my game, so I missed out.

...This is something the community has been requesting for some time now...
With respect, the community has also requested that previously available stock is made available in the Crown Store, and we would like to give you our money in exchange for such items. Whilst it may never have been intended to allow for said items to be made available, may I please ask two simple questions for the hierarchy to consider?

    1. Why not?
    2. What are the reasons behind this? Are you intending to make them available via Crown Crates, rather than allowing for direct purchase?

I had posed a similar question in the 'Ask Us Anything' thread about making the Crown Store more 'attractive', but unfortunately like many questions there, they remain unanswered. I figured it was worth having a punt here.

Nevertheless, I think the gifting system is a fantastic idea. Imagine how much more attractive it could be to us players if we had a full Crown Store to choose from...

I doubt it will work that way. If you want to *buy* someone the storm camel, I have the feeling you'd have to shell out the crowns needed to get one from the clown crates. If they would allow people to buy specific themed mounts or themed items, people who paid 32k crowns to get what they wanted from the clown crates would be at ZOS's door with pitchforks and torches.

    @ZOS_JessicaFolsom

What I want to know is if we can buy the lower tier non-themed items this way. I really want that lion, and would like to get the red wolf for my bosmer. I can't stand any of the atronach mounts, and I'll never buy the clown crates, or take them for free, either.

We'd also like to talk about another special reward, the Striped Senche, which was announced in our recent Road Ahead update. To obtain this regal mount, you need to meet two criteria: 1) you must be an active ESO subscriber on March 16th, the day before we launch Tamriel Unlimited, and 2) you need to have 300 total days of paid subscription time prior to March 16th. This is the only way to get your hands on this feline companion—it won't be sold in the Crown Store.

If people had friends or guildies that ended up with atronach mounts they didn't want, and could give them away to others for "free", I don't see how that would make money for ZOS. Yes, someone did buy the clown crates to get the mount they don't want/like, however being able to gift a clown crate exclusive item kills the need for the giftee to spend to buy clown crates to get the exclusive can't be outright purchased theme mount.
I totally agree with the being able to buy the non-themed items outright. Keep the themed items exclusive to the themed boxes. The items I'd be buying if they were available aren't the themed items.

I can see that some clarification was needed on that point, my bad. I'm actually all for direct purchase of the atronach mounts, too, since I think the gambling box system is corrupt through-and-through. Obviously with that said, the lower-level items being available would reduce the overall harm, but I'd prefer to see the whole thing scrapped.

So would I. Considering they hired someone to do what she is apparently good at and monetize everything as much as possible though, the clown crates won't be going away. The most that can be hoped for is to hope that the non-themed items will be available at some point.

Because they don't want to make more money? Kind of stupid of them if you ask me. They are only hurting themselves.

There are actually solid marketing and psychological reasons for not having a "full" Crown Store.

1). If the collection of items is too extensive, people can feel conflicted about what they want. They will not be able to decide which of the 53 mounts they want and ... buy nothing. You want to give customer enough selection to feel they are buying an item that suits their individual style, but not so much selection that they are overwhelmed and cannot make up their mind.

2). Limited Edition items need to exert pressure on customer to buy it now. If it never goes away, or customer feels confident it will be back on a regular rotation or back at next holiday event, they may put off buying it.

3). Even regular stock items that have been around for a long time, but are announced to be removed on a future date, need to exert pressure on customer to buy it now. If item has been around for 200 days and it is announced it is being removed in 8 days, you want customer to treat it as the equivalent of an 8-day limited edition item. Not an, "Oh. It'll be back soon enough. I'll wait and maybe buy it at that point."

So you cannot only think about sales you will gain if an item is brought back, or if you make all items available all the time. You also have to think about potential sales lost if people feel no urgency to buy.

Whilst your input is appreciated and makes sense, your reasoning is still pure speculation based on nothing. It would be very much appreciated if @ZOS_JessicaFolsom could confirm whether or not crate mounts and items are exempt from this. Like i said, it makes perfect sense, but some official clarification would be appreciated too. I mean, you can't just make the lion available (when it's more or less a crown crate exclusive as things stand) and state the top tier mounts are exempt. That makes little sense.

If you’re interested in participating in this program, you may contact our Support team but please keep in mind that this is currently a manual process. We hope this helps clear up any confusion about the program, and we look forward to bringing it to everyone in the future.

Does that mean I can gift my storm camel mount to someone?

I doubt it will work that way. If you want to *buy* someone the storm camel, I have the feeling you'd have to shell out the crowns needed to get one from the clown crates. If they would allow people to buy specific themed mounts or themed items, people who paid 32k crowns to get what they wanted from the clown crates would be at ZOS's door with pitchforks and torches.

What I want to know is if we can buy the lower tier non-themed items this way. I really want that lion, and would like to get the red wolf for my bosmer. I can't stand any of the atronach mounts, and I'll never buy the clown crates, or take them for free, either.

The difference they could point to if they do that is that the black mane lion and red pit wolf aren't "atronach themed" items. Keeping themed items exclusive, the atronach themed items for the atronach crates, the Wild Hunt themed items for that one and so on would be understandable. I'm still trying to figure out what "atronach" aspects the normal, no sparkly lightning shifting rocks lion and pit wolf have that would make them exclusive to the "atronach" themed crates and never allow them to be sold outright. @ZOS_JessicaFolsom
