You were surprised that a Dunmer only rp guild recruiter was a control freak and rude?
Maybe she was just in character.
RP'ers catch a lot of grief while they are out doing their rp thing. There are lots of people that go out of their way to try and ruin their game time. That's why RP guilds tend to be more selective of who they let in.

Today I see someone yelling in zone for peeps to join a Dunmer only rpg and I am like yeah that will be some fun! Then I get questioned like I was going thru security at a freakn airport. Then she doesn't like my answers so she says, "You can look at our site: blablabla." Hay, lady, I just quit my 5th guild in the hopes that you would take me in. You didn't say anything about RP'ing rules when you asked in chat if anyone wanted to join a Dunmer Morrowind guild. I swear to god I have had it with you role players. You are rule obsessed control freaks and you are rude to people new to rp'ing. Straight up.

Riiight.
RP'ers think they can boss everyone around if someone do something they don't like.
I was once on a thieving guild quest and needed to loot a lootbox in Glenumbra. So I go to the inn to check if it was there and no it hadn't spawn.
At that moment I didn't notice any RP because my chat was set to guildchat and whispers only.
So I start robbing NPC's for loot I could sell. Just doing the thing the game provides me.
I tried to loot the bard, but he spotted me and with that the darn police. So I run around like a chicken without a head trying to escape. When trying to stay out of the anti-stealh circle I killed a few NPC's and one of the undaunted to get at least some loot.
The police lost me and I went upstairs and I robbed the place blind, leaving the NPC's upstairs alone.
Then I noticed I had a few hatetells and threads about ruining someones RP experience and they reported me FOR PLAYING THE GAME.

This is actually unfortunate. Here you have a potential new RPer that obviously is taking the steps to improve their experience and the guild is turning them over to a simple website.
If anyone has RP'd in other games should know that RPers new or otherwise are NOT a commodity to be wasted. Over time in any MMO the RPing population only dwindles as players burn out. Move on to better games, or other reasons. You don't simply snub your nose at a new RPer. They're the lifeblood of the community.
Furthermore there's no reason for tons of rules. Roleplaying is simple, its when you gather players together in a sort of collaboration of story telling, character development, and socializing with other players. All of the excuses given in the thread are just from players who forgot what RPing is. Where it started from.
Roleplaying started with the pen and paper dice rolling games. But it was never about rolling the dice. It was about the friends getting together on a friday night with sodas, snacks, and pizza. This expanded to online play as such friends moved away and couldn't make scheduled meetings and gave a way for players to RP with one another without being in physical locations.
The only rule was to ensure everyone had fun. There were game rules, and I believe ESO covers all of that. The only thing that should be concerning is that everyone, especially the new players feel welcomed and are having fun.
I understand there are certain themes to guilds and that's fine. But going beyond that is outright silly.
As for being selective about who they bring in. How hard is it to talk with someone like a RECRUITER is supposed to? You all want to see the friendliest person in the world? Go speak to an Army or Marine Corps recruiter in the US, you will have an instant friend willing to sit down and talk with you at 4am in the morning if you so desire.
Why shouldn't a guild recruiter be the same way? No its not an easy job. But you do have to have someone who is personable as your recruiters. Your officers likewise have to be friendly and a bit accommodating. When you're talking to someone who is enthusiastic about joining. You need to sit and talk with them. You're advertising for your guild. You're giving yourself either a good or bad impression to everyone else. This Dunmer guild is very lucky the OP didn't name drop their guild. Sure its against the rules, but it would have been seen long before a mod could lock it up.
When you talk to a recruit you can easily filter out the people who want to RP and those who just want to troll. To be quite honest the number of players trolling is quite low. You have to join with one of your 5 slots, and its quite a bit of work. In addition you have to join with your account. 8 characters and 5 guild slots. You gotta be picky.
As for people who troll events. 9 times out of 10 it is a dumb player who sees a congregation of players and hasn't a damn clue to what is going on. It looks weird, its odd, its almost scary to see a large number of players standing around. Like did a GM even happen or somesuch? That's why you'll see them try to get attention they feel left out of 'something' and don't quite understand what that is. Remember alot of players aren't familar with RP.
Hell my first experience with a RPer was weird as hell. It was on one of the normal servers in Everquest about 16 years ago. Prior to this encounter I have seen online roleplay in chat rooms and forums. So I knew what RP was. But I had NEVER had it direct towards me personally.
I was playing a human cleric, about level 10 or so in the Commonlands. Just working on a newbie armor quest. This Paladin comes up and invites me to a group. Well hell yeah.. now I can kick the crap out of some orcs. This crazy mother was RPing a Paladin of Valor and stuff, and got all excited that I was a Cleric of the same diety. I wasn't RPing, and he didn't give a damn that I wasn't. But we went around on a Holy Crusade righting wrongs and killing orcs that day. To put it shortly.
It was a bit of fun, mostly weird, but fun. And I figured out that's probably what they were doing on the RPing server. After a short stint of getting ganked on a PVP server. I decided to roll over on the RP server and well got into my own RP. Probably never really did get as hardcore into it as that Paladin. But damn 16 years later, I still remember that Paladin.
Now imagine if they guy responded negatively to my non-RP responses? I would have thought RPers were elitist jerks. I never would have gotten into it so many years ago. Instead he stayed IC and just made the experience fun and entertaining. It was more like going to medieval time and having the staff stay IC while serving. Its just for the entertaining factor. They don't care if you join in or not. They just want to set the immersion and entertainment factor.
If more RPers were like this, they probably wouldn't be targeted so much.
But a sad fact is many RPers have some issues. I wish I had a link to it. But there was a player in the EQ2 forums about 6-7 years ago who helped with a study on Roleplayers in a MMO environment. They posted some demographics that were interesting. I can't remember the exact numbers, but the percentage of players who RP in some form was around 30%. That's impressive. I would have slotted it at about 10% or less myself. But the reason it may seem lower than it is, is due to players hiding it.
And thats where the sad facts come in. A good chunck of RPers do have some sort of social issues. Whether it be depression, an identity disorder (I'm not going into which ones, don't wish to derail the thread), or some form of anxiety. Its not a majority, but it was a sizeable chunk to be noticeable. And judging by the issues many of my RPing friends had IRL, I could see the study was accurate.
One of the things that bothered me the most was the reasoning for RPers RPing. Many were choosing to play characters that they wish they could be. Now this isn't an issue per say. Everyone wants to make believe they are something they aren't. When we make characters we want to be cool, be badasses, and so forth. There's nothing inherently wrong with it. The sad part is when players use their characters as a mask because they feel its the only way to socialize.
This is part of why RPers seem so guarded. Many of them use their character as a filter. A filter of themselves and a filter coming back to them. They WANT to socialize. They need to. We all do really, being human and all. But they feel as if they need to do it through a character. Nothing too bad about that. But when you fool around with that character in a disrespectful way. You can really hurt someone personally. Its something alot of players have to be on the lookout for.
But at the same time, those players need to understand that not everyone is RPing for the same reasons. And may not understand the reason behind another player's 'mask'. To put it simply.. most RP drama is derived from a misunderstanding. Of course.. isn't all drama that way?
Basically what needs to happen, is exactly what I said in the beginning. Realize RPing is meant to be a FUN social activity. If most RPers did that, they wouldn't have nearly as many issues as they have.
Besides. Housing is coming out. You'll be able to do private events in private for once. That should be celebrated. Just remember to get out in public once in a while so new RPers and potential new RPers can get motivated, much like I did 16 years ago.
Hopefully this was a bit enlightening for those who read through the whole thing.

I completely agree, it's not my style either.Rohamad_Ali wrote: »I just don't like when RP turns into talking all night and never going on adventures . I can RolePlay a person afraid of going outside in real life . I don't need that in here .
