So how do you determine a price on a particular item?

Scenario: So I am using the zone chat feature to advertise a purple Spriggan's ring and I get a few responses from people asking how much? I message them back my request of what I feel is a fair offer and I get back an "lol" or sometimes no answer at all.
My question is this - how do others determine pricing & fair offers? For me, I usually consult with guildmates that I know have sold like or same items as well as using a particular website that I am unsure if I can put in here but if you google ESO Price Check, it's the first hit you get. I know the prices on there are not concrete but when I am offering said ring for quite a bit lower than what the website said the average is (although now the site is under construction for set items), I get lol'd at like I'm trying to rob somebody.
The guild I'm in doesn't focus on getting a trader every week - if we get one, great, if not, no big woop. Also, I don't sell enough to warrant getting into a trading guild so that doesn't concern me. I guess I'm just curious at how much pricing in the "guild free" system of spamming items for sale differs from actually using a guild trader.

✭✭Sorry man. Those jewelry aren't worth very much. They're dropping like lollipops for everyone. 5k~20k tops. Sharpened weapons of sought after sets is a different story. Heck, even one handers in bad traits can fetch 30k0 -

if posting in chat- look at what traders are charging and go 25-35% lower
this works for me on PS4/NA. I would guess it is similar on xbox0 -

✭✭✭I remember when i found a sharp RM dagger, that i improved to gold quality and advertised. One person got back to me and asked what i was looking for it. After i had spoken to a few guild members and looked around in guild shops, I stated 1m because I had improved it so he'd also save on alloys too. I'd have accepted 900k if he had offered it, but instead he just replied lol these are going for 200k all the time in his guild store. I asked him which guild and he never got back to me. The moral of the story is, regardless of any priced mentioned, there are just people out there who are time wasters and would type 'lol' even if you were offering them the bargain of the century.Edited by Prof_Bawbag on December 20, 2016 7:17PM0 -

I sold a precise RM dagger a few weeks ago for 150k. It went within 5mins. Got the feeling i under priced that one. Saying that, I've had some absolute bargains too. I got half the Dro-M'artha motif set last week after someone listed a bunch pages for 500g each.0 -

✭✭✭At least you said a price, nothing I hate more is when you pm some one for an item they link and you ask how much and they reply with offer. You ask around go to a guild trader and look at what you are willing to offer and say back ur price and get an lol back. No counter offer no negotiations just lol.
People really need to learn the art of negotiating not the lol thing then no reply it's really becoming a huge pet peeve of mine. If you ask me for an offer and I give you one don't write lol write okay that's a little low I was thinking more like this, or better yet if you already had a price in mind just say it ffs and stop trying to get an idiot that's going to offer 10x the worth of the item bc that's the real reason you are saying offer in the first place.Edited by FloppyTouch on December 20, 2016 7:27PM0 -

✭Typically, if you're selling an item via zone chat, it should be a couple of k's less than what it would cost in the guild store.
Example: Purple Ring costs 30k on guild traders.
Subtract the guild tax and listing fee, and the person will actually only get about 27k for the item.
Deduct a small amount to that for the weekly membership fee the person might be paying (in lotto or direct gold) to maintain membership in that guild.
Maximum I would ask for the Purple Ring in zone chat is something like 26k.
I'd drop it slightly more to lure them to make the effort to contact me and trade with me (working with a person), instead of easily and without hassle get it from the guild trader.
For super quick sell, consider lowering the price at a point when the person could buy and up sale (if they have the patience we don't for wanting the quick sell on zone chat). If a 30k ring can only grant them 27k profit, I would try to sell for maybe 22k, so they can make 5k profit from the sale if they are willing to wait for the sale and take up a spot in their trader.
**If I'm not happy with the idea of selling a 30k ring at 22k, then I join a guild trader, put it on sale, and wait for it to be my turn to get the sale.
**Also, make sure the check the selling price of items, not the listing price. If an item has been listed for more than 2 days, it's probably being sold too expensive.Edited by Pandorii on December 20, 2016 8:10PM0 -

Consoles don't have any addons. We have to memorize the relative prices of anything we want to sell.
