Is the rest of the crown store eventually going to be useless?

I can see it now, all of the new items are going to be crown crate only, nothing new is going to be able to be bought straight with crowns and it all has to be done through the crown crates and it turns into an Overwatch style loot box only system (without the permanence of cosmetics)
At least give ESO+ members a couple of crown gems each month? Maybe? I mean, the subscribers are going to be the most loyal customers.

I don't know, maybe I'm just salty because I can't buy a pink netch without having to get a crown crate (or 50) :|

@anitajoneb17_ESO That wasn't my original point.

Well, given that your post starts with the (totally out of thin air) assumption that everything new in the crown store will be locked behind crown crates (while nothing indicates that ! there are even two new items for direct purchase in the crown store as of yesterday ) your real point is the second part of your post : your frustration about the pink netch.

The netch was just a sarcastic example. I personally am against locking exclusive items behind crown crates, and predict that ESO will continue to lock exclusive items behind them. Regardless, I'm not going to continue arguing on a forum.

They can keep locking items if they want. Only so many fools will throw money at them. The many forums about the rng and how many crates you may need to buy to get something you want if you are unlucky makes the choice pretty easy for me.

this is something im really afraid of. When they implemented the crown store - i said, yeah thats normal, its B2P now. but when they added the RNG loot crates. . . i groaned. Now after seeing just how much stuff is in those crates, items that you cant even buy out right in the store, i saw my faith shaken.

Please ZOS, Counter Strike, Halo 5, Gears of War 4, and Call of Duty use these (borderline illegal) gambling tactics to snare players. RNG loot crates have got to go!

No, they will always dribble new stuff into the Crown Store, just like they will continue to dribble new stuff into the game itself. Just because the Crown Crates are the most important thing does not mean they totally abandon everything else. They just have to keep an eye on the Number One, first.

We fully intend to still add new items to the Crown Store, regardless of the recent launch of Crown Crates. You'll still see things like costumes, pets, and mounts.

It's just that items that leave the crown store will only become available again through the gambling add-on that is the crown crate system.

Regardless whether this was the point of thread, the above is really the answer for anything in the crown store.....#learn2livewithout. Had the Ice Wolf mount been in crates, I'd still be riding my senche mount. I really want a crafting option to change styles without crafting a new set. If zos introduced this into the crown store, I would be salty, but I would not pay for the service. So far, everything in the crown store affects appearance only. Crown store complainers just need to control that "I want" urge.

Will we see the items that aren't themed, like the black mane lion and red pit wolf in the Crown Store eventually? The items that are not "themed" and really shouldn't be in the themed clown crates in the first place?

    This.

If you sold the items directly during the crate's off-season, you would bring the opposition to the crates close to zero.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

On an individual basis, for one player considering buying one item, you're absolutely correct. But looking at the bigger picture I think it's still worth communicating to ZOS why we're not buying particular things and what we'd like instead because if a lot of people are saying the same thing they may well take that on board and make changes. Which should result in us getting things we are willing to pay for and ZOS getting more money - so it's a win/win.

Whereas if everyone just quietly decided it's not for them and carried on with their lives without saying anything ZOS are left in the dark. They can see that a particular item or system didn't sell as much as they expected but they don't know why so all they can do is guess. Maybe players aren't buying crates because they're too expensive? Maybe they don't like the items inside them? Maybe there's too many? Too few? Not enough cosmetics for argonian males?

(Ok they won't be completely in the dark on this because they'll likely have access to comparable data from other games on things like price, number of items offered etc. and can probably pull stats on things like the percentage of characters who are a male argonian. But as someone who deals with similar data in my own job I can tell you nothing beats being able to say "Our own customers told us this specifically is the reason they did/didn't buy this product". Of course you have to allow for the people you asked being outliers but that's why I said we'll only see change if enough people say the same things.)

Edit: And the same is true when you do buy things. Admittedly sometimes it's hard to explain, I'm not quite sure why I decided a white wolf is better than a grey wolf even when it costs more (other than it matches one of my characters), but in other cases it's easy - e.g. the introduction of costume dying meant I bought several new costumes which I'd previously considered totally unsuitable because they were the wrong colours for my characters.

Check out the reddit thread about a CS person who can sell items that aren't on the store anymore. Or used to be able to do so. The ptb might have shut this down because, clown crates.

People who want the themed items would still buy the clown crates to get them. People who want the lower tier consolation prizes could buy them outright. Being able to buy the NOT themed items would cut down the majority of my rabid dislike of the crates to simply a strong dislike to the crates. I still won't buy the the clown crates, BUT with the NOT themed items you have in the crates now I'd buy the lion and the wolf right away if they ever show up for purchase.

I have spent quite a lot of crowns on cosmetic items during the past 2.5 years that I've played ESO. I don't have that many hobbies that cost money, so I can afford to spend cash on games and books etc.

However, I never gamble - don't even buy lottery tickets irl. I basically dislike the concept of gambling - I like to know what I get when I buy something. I realize that gambling always has the odds against the player (in crown crate business against the buyer). The whole thing is just against my nature.

I see a lot of stuff I'd buy released only with crown crates. It annoys me but won't get me to start gambling. It just means I will spend that money on something else than ESO. :/
