Ice Furnace Set

The Ice Furnace Set's Fifth set bonus has a "50% chance when damaging target with Frost to deal "x" Flame Damage to enemies 8 meters around the initial target."

The only possible way to deal frost damage is with the destro staff or other sets. The destruction staff abilities scale off of spell damage. So why does the Fourth Set bonus add weapon damage?

It doesn't make any sense, and I would actually run this set if not for this waste of a bonus. I would love for this to be fixed and changed to Spell damage instead of Weapon damage. It would make the set more viable and might actually see some use in PvP.

    Nail on the head, right there. Getting all these old sets in cp160 is great, but a great deal of them need a retune. Some of the old bonuses were clearly designed with a much earlier patch in mind (Stygian is another one that comes to mind).

    If I remember correctly:
    In beginning of the game staffs scaled from weapon damage.
    That was changed to spell damage (early 2015 ?)
    Ice Furnace is an old set, based on that old scaling.

    The old set Elegance set had the same issue and being very much desired by some builds after the CP-160 update, like overload Sorcs, was changed recently to spell damage.

    Makes sense to do the same with Ice Furnace

    @hrothbern you are correct that restoration and destruction staves were effected by weapon damage like all weapons. They changed everything since then.

    Please read this @Wrobel ... I made a similar post on the PTS forum about two months ago and it was ignored. Lets not ruin a set that could potentially open a whole new world of builds by letting it keep this outdated set bonus.

    B/C when this set was originally created there were soft caps in the game.

    So sets that offered different bonuses were nice if you had already capped out in this case spell damage.

    All they did was update it 160 not update the set bonuses to reflect the current state of the game.

    simple answer: No, not on cold dots

    I tested Frostfire in PTS:
    When it procs, the 50% seems to be right.

    Frostfire does proc from LA, HA, Frozen weapon enchant and Force Shock.
    Frostfire does not proc from Wall of Frost
    Frostfire does proc from the intial tick of Frost Touch, but not from the subsequent Frost Touch DOT. Same with Frost Ring (Impulse).
    It does also not proc from secondary effect procced Chill's.

    what about Ice Comet, including DoT on the ground? should proc it, right?

    The initial tick of Ice Comet does procs FF (with 50% proc chance), and the subsequent cold DOT does not proc FF.

    Perhaps good to mention that FF has an internal Cooldown of 2 seconds, in which no more than 1 FF AOE can take place.

    With all of these restrictions in how it procs, and the internal cooldown to top it off, this set totally sucks now :(

    I'd love for it to get significantly buffed and provide a new set for Ice builds. Make it so 5x/Winterborn/5x Ice Furnace/MA Weapons is BiS Ice Mage gear!

    As an update: I also wanted to test the Ice Furnace set for a Dunmer MagSorc Tank (just for sh*ts and giggles). I wanted to see if I could have all three elemental AOEs surrounding me:

    Lightning from Boundless Storm
    Fire from Ice Furnace
    Ice from Iceheart

    I thought Iceheart might proc Ice Furnace... nope! It doesn't.

    What a completely garbage set, ZoS.
    Want to enjoy the game more? Try both PvP (crybabies) and PvE (carebears). You'll get a better perspective on everyone's opinion.
