Maintenance for the week of May 18:
· [COMPLETE] NA megaservers for maintenance – May 18, 4:00AM EDT (8:00 UTC) - 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC)
· [COMPLETE] EU megaservers for maintenance – May 18, 8:00 UTC (4:00AM EDT) - 13:00 UTC (9:00AM EDT)

Is it just me- or are daily writs a waste of resources?

It does seem to drain mats these days since the writ maps have become rarer, but its still a good way to get gold tempers which are less easy to get enough of than the mats themselves.

The one variant of the blacksmithing writ should NOT cost almost twice as many materials. Wtf is up with that? Often doing bs writs on four toons depletes more than boosts my reserves--especially since survey rates were nerfed.

Boxes of low level mats in the reward pool are just insulting, too.

All materials are dirt cheap to buy on the trader. They have come down in price significantly!! So, the reality is the annoyance of logging on my toons to complete all crafting writs. However, in the end, I find it to be totally worth it!! I gain on average 5-10 tempor alloys a week with just 3 toons. Not to mention the gold I make... 12K gold every day which takes me about 20mins.

I don't like the change with crafting writ material maps.... having to zone to different locations is dumb..

The writ I think most needs help is provisioning. It needs to pull from recipes you know. I pretty much stop trying for those since I rarely have the recipes it calls for and I never can find them on any merchants. No other craft has that issue.

It's worth it just for the gold tempers. In my experience, there is about a 30% chance to get a gold temper from a max level writ.

Really? I don't even remember when is the last time I've got a gold temper from a writ. I don't do them every day, but still... I'm more lucky with refining.

Honestly the only thing I ever get gold wise is Kutas. I havent seen a Temper or a Dreugh Wax in ages. Most of the time I get a worthless empty soul gem, a green enchantment that I forget to breakdown for a week, maybe a Kuta. The Alchemy one is usually some water and one or two agents. Blacksmith is usually a box of ingots I have no need for, a item that ill sell rather than break down and MAYBE a survey. Same for Woodworking. Clothier I havent done in ages because most of my characters use light armor and so its too expensive and time consuming to use what I do have. And Provisioning, with over 300 recipes now its rare to actually get a recipe that I dont already have.

At this point I mostly use the writs for the quick gold. But even thats getting to the point where its not worth it.

For reference the chance of getting a gold temper/Kuta from a writ is about 30% as proven from a large number of writ reward samples. On average you should be getting one per writ done every 3 days. Chance for surveys is around 13%, or one every 8 days.

There is still a small net loss of materials when doing writs (at least the 3 smithing writs) but even considering having to buy the materials at market value you still make a good profit on average.

All of my characters are max CP. So, every time I do a writ- I'm rewarded with a box full of cotton or yew or steel ingots. They're not even in the raw form- so there's NO CHANCE to get legendary items from refining them, either! :s I understand the idea behind rewarding lower level mats (since you can no longer farm them once you surpass the lower levels)... but let's face it: You reach the CP ranks within a week or so these days. So, effectively... you're getting useless material.

If I recall correctly- the rewards from writs were better as well. If I did all six writs, I usually would get at least ONE legendary material and ONE survey. Now they're few and far between. Do I have really bad RNG- or are writs pretty frackin' useless these days?

Because of this, I've stopped doing writs altogether. I still get plenty of raw mats by gathering my own as I adventure through the world. Fewer surveys, fewer tempers and boxes of refined mats (often worth less than it cost to do the writ) are no good to me.

    Total waste of time.

They were fine before, so why they felt the need to change them, I don't know.

I think of writs as a second chance to get gold tempers. When you refine materials that is the first chance, then when you use those materials and turn in a writ, that is the second chance, as well as potentially a third chance from the materials you gather if you get a survey. Since they are quick to do, it is worth the time to me.

I could care less about the material cost itself, materials are easy to get. It's all about gold tempers in this game.

They ARE a waste of resources.

Also the RNG for good drops is so abysmal that it's actually depressing. For me, anyway.

You're not finding them on merchants because chefs and brewers sell them. Find those, all the writ recipes are there, to the highest level you're able to craft them anyway.

I would just like to stop getting one of the same 6 green recipes almost every day as a reward, and I wish it would only ask me to craft cp150 recipes instead of random cp 10 or 50 ones on my max provisioners.

the equipment writs are tempered by the consumable writs particularly the prov writs which cost nothing but yield the highest value return..... ambrosia recipes...

    so, yeah, worthwhile.
