1. Summon shades is nice for tanking in PvE as it applies Minor Maim longer than Heroic Slash and costs Magicka instead of precious Stamina (4s every time the shade hits, they last 17s, and attack in 1s intervals).
However it does abysmal damage and isn't used as a DPS skill.
2. Contextual. PvE you'll like want Shades instead of Image since it offers more steady application of Maim and does more damage than Image. Plus moving around too much as a tank is a really bad idea since many DPS use ground based AoE's that are stationary.
3. No, not since update 1.6 sadly.
4. Yes they can crit but they do not inherit your Critical Hit Damage, only Chance.
5. Max Magicka and Spell Critical Strike Chance are the only two stats it scales off of.
7. Force Pulse will never cost less per cast, but with Elemental Drain on a target it will operate less since it will proc the Magicka return. It also has 3 chances to proc Siphoning Attacks per cast instead of 1 chance from Funnel/Swallow.
7. Yes, Rearming Trap is vital to competitive DPS on all builds in PvE.
8. No, it'd only beat Sap Essence in pure burst situations, which is not relevant to PvE encounters.
