DW vs Destro Staff

As a MagBlade, should I be using dual wield or destruction staff for my main bar? Dual wield increases spell damage, and counts for 2 pieces of a set, but it is a lot harder to weave in light attacks (I'll have to add a gap closer if I want to do this) and the light attacks scale off of stamina. Also, I've heard that many people use force pulse as their main dps ability. If this is true, then... Is that better than dual wielding?

I'm assuming you're talking about PvP cause I don't think Magicka melee NB is a thing in PvE (may be wrong) Both can work, DW for burst or Destro for pressure. Swallow soul is better than force pulse and it's in your siphoning tree.

For PvE the normal build for a NB is fire staff on front bar and DW on the execute bar.

Force Pulse is preferred, especially if one is Dark or high elf as it does more damage and will proc Ele Drain. One could use Funnel Health (or Swallow Soul) instead.

Additionally, Blockade is one of the best dots in the game, even with single target.

Also, DW is not used as much for the small amount of extra spell damage or an extra slot for set bonus. Twin Blade Blunt passive in that line is the main reason. Increases damage by 5% (2.5% per sword) making it preferential even when not getting an extra set bonus.

Keeping your dots up during execute, the same passive should increase damage from dots on the front bar while on the back bar using the execute.

Depends on your playstyle and build. I'm one of the last dying few who runs dw/resto. Most run either destro/resto or what the guy above said.

I really like having the extra spell damage and set bonus. I just feel way to restricted using a destro. With dw You can get some higher spell damage on funnel health/swallow soul which compensates for the lack of a destro light attack. It's a trade off. Also, With dw I get higher spell damage on my class skills such as sap essence, bat swarm, lotus fan, and agony if I choose to use it. Basically, with dw. I use more class skills then if I were to go destro. With destro I would use more destro skills at the expense of damage to my class skills.

So if you want to use more class skills go with duel wield. If you want to use la/ha and use more weapon skills go with destro.

The good thing about magblade is that you can basically combine any 2 weapons that you want and be effective. I personally prefer destro/resto because it applies the most pressure but magblade works with all weapon choices. For PvE though your only option is pretty much destro/resto

For PVP, there are so many options its hard to list.

For trials, most people are going Dual Destro for bosses, and switching to DW for back bar AOE in trash/gauntlets. Funnel health is a great spam skill for small group as it provides some awesome heals, but force pulse is more DPS. Also, if elemental drain is on the boss, it actually ends up being cheaper than funnel.

For VMA, I would run Swallow Soul with a Destro staff on front bar. You want the heals, range, and the ability to run blockade. A resto staff does have merit as a back bar weapon, but most good nightblades dont need it. They get more than enough heals from Swallow Soul and Refreshing Path. You can either go double staff or DW on back bar.
