Hi guys,

I recently started eso (1 week ago) on PC. Although i do appreciate the availability of soloable content (so you dont have to do even the most basic stuff in game like leveling up as a group), i am having trouble spotting other players. i could play for 5-6 hours straight without almost encountering another player. (maybe my level is too low and therefore i am in a low level zone?)

Also, for starting players, is there absolutely nothing else to do but doing quest after quest?

Did you download a different game? because thats how it sounds.

Since the release of One Tamriel, the whole map is more crowded. Also there are many things to do like duelling, PvP, fishing, crafting or doing dungeons.

I really think you logged into BDO or something.

Starting out you won't see many

Most others have ventured out into the world

I'd suggest to keep playing until level 10-15 then you should see a lot of players
Also if it's desired, get the free crown store New Life Festuval to start the quest that will bring you to tons of others.....it will require a lot of travel early on as you don't have the wayshrines but that's gonna get you around others....be it a few headaches

First of all, welcome to the game. It is massive and it is unlikely any player will ever do it all.

I'm going to guess that you spent a while escaping from coldharbour (a tutorial zone just for 1st time players) and have been doing the main quest (ghostly old guy asks you to meet him in a dark spot called the harborage)? The main quest and the NPC guild quests are mostly solo, so you will not see other players there. Almost everything else can be social and you don't need to follow quests, you can go to any zone and see what you feel like doing. (there are no low-level zones anymore)

If you want to mix it up a bit then here are some idea's

Number 1 Join a player guild, there is a section on the forums about guilds, and another section on reddit, or just ask in zone chat ("New player looking for friendly guild") when you are playing.

Do the NEW LIFE festival - there is lots of info about it on the forums. Ask in zone chat to team up with someone. I've never seen so many players in one place before!

Get to level 10 and go to Cyrodil - you will join an army of players fighting a war against two other armies of players (it's great at low levels because you get scaled up!)

If you have orsinium then look in Wrothgar zone chat for people who type LFM [then some weird word like 'cori'], you reply LFG [whatever they said], then you will join a largish group to fight against epic world bosses (similar events happen more rarely in Hews bane and Gold coast)

If you don't have the DLC then look for dolmens and world bosses in every zone- these are designed to be done by groups of random players.

If you are feeling confident with what you are doing then use the group finder tool (in game) to join a 4-man group to take on difficult but beautifully designed dungeons. These can be difficult for a new player, and other people can get annoyed if they were relying on you... but most people are decent.

Check out the most popular cities. Rawl'kha in Reapers March, Belkarth in Craglorn, Riften in The Rift or Shornhelm in Rivenspire. If you want to look for a group then look in Eden Root in Grahtwood, Wayrest in Stormhaven or Mounhold in Deeshan. You will see people dueling and showing off their characters at all of these cities at any time of the day.

Final thoughts - ESO is trying to bridge the gap between the single player experience (Skyrim) and the MMO experience. One way it does this is that it doesn't force players to co-operate with eachother to complete the game, but it means that you can easilly miss some of the social elements. If you can find a social guild or experienced player you will see the options this game gives you.
#1 tip (Re)check your graphics settings periodically - especially resolution.
