I have not seen a perfect MMO yet. Even games with a PTS and weeks of testing said PTS patch will break crap when it drops. S*it happens my friend. No one is perfect, and not a single MMO developer is perfect.0 -
KATObloodpaw✭✭✭I understand why everyone is complaining. It's frustrating trying to log in when you have some free time and not being able to at all. Especially when it's not a problem coming from your end. Although at the same time I have to say it's a little ridiculous that our community can't seem to understand that people make this game and those people are bound to make mistakes. If this is a game you love, you shouldn't mind them trying to fix it. Not every problem Zos deals with is going to be as easy as flipping a switch. If you are that unhappy, then unsubscribe. I'll never fully grasp how a community of subscribers can complain so much about a game that they CHOOSE to subscribe to. If your that passionate come up with constructive criticism and valid solutions instead of bashing the Zos team. As a subscriber you are helping fund this type of maintenance. Are you a programmer, do you have a working patch they can use? do you not make mistakes in life or at your job? Everything you ever do or make works the first time around ? I feel for you folks, because I have been hearing this from a lot of people.
Luckily I've not had this issue. Connecting from the East Coast—is it a hub issue? I remember WoW had some of that for almost a full year somewhere smack in the middle of the years I played that game. Frustrating as hell for the players.
If this is a Zeni fixable thing, I really hope they can do something for you guys.

Lady_Rosabella✭✭✭✭✭The game was unplayable for me last night. Mostly due to the fact I would get never ending load screens when traveling to another zone or loading another character. Ultimately I would have to force close ESO and try again. Finally I quit for the night. I ran a tracert to the ESO server, so did several other friends from different locations. When we tracert to 198.20.198.110 we would all get a timed out when it hit the AT&T Dallas, TX router location. So it seems a lot of problems were coming from AT&T. But that was just a hand full of us that checked. I believe there is also a post somewhere in the forums where others were doing the same test. I can't blame ZOS totally for these problems, but hopefully they will get them fixed by tomorrow's release of The New Life Festival. And hopefully AT&T gets their connections fixed on their end. By the way I'm on xfinity internet with the Extreme internet speeds and when I would do a speed test I was getting 85 Mbps so it wasn't my internet at fault.Edited by Lady_Rosabella on December 14, 2016 3:55PM0 -

There are a few things it could be, mostly installation issues. Servers are basically just a whole bunch of computers - that need to be running the same version of the software. It could be that one or more of those didn't get updated properly. Perhaps someone accidentally unplugged a network cable (so that certain nodes were not able to communicate. It could be that whoever did the upgrade got a corrupt copy of the files. Maybe a mix of these things could cause multiple maintenance sessions...
Alternatively it could be to do with differences between european and us hardware, performing slightly differently and maybe the US hardware doesn't handle one thing. Maybe they accidentally put the new life festival dates in EU format and not US format... something weird like that can happen. Stuff can break if you try to enter the 12th day of the 14th month.
Then there are the possibilities that someone wrote in the code something specific to a server, and that is where the bug is. There are reasons to do this - EU standards and US standards are often not the same. It rarely effects computers these days - but that makes it even harder to debug when there is an issue! (I don't know any MMO examples, but a comparable issue would be with TV framerates.The modern European TV standard is 50FPS, whereas the US has the incredibly annoying "Drop Frame 60FPS", which means 59.94FPS).
It could also be that the person normally responsible for updates in the US server has gone home for christmas, and the person doing it in his/her stead is not as experienced.
There are quite a few things that could happen that I haven't listed here. Also, these are minor/simplified examples. There are likely to be safeguards to prevent against these things, so a combination of these, or more complicated versions of these would be required to cause this much disruption.
