Combat Pets? are they a thing?

Out of Curiosity, I noticed in the Crown store pets are now classed as non-combat pets...does this mean we may be able to get combat pets later on in the game? As much as I think this would be a great addition... I'm not sure if they would be usable in PVP, or even if they would be "allowed out" in PVP. I have always wanted a better pet class for my Sorc. I do use Pets in PVP and I love the build I have, but it always feels like the class could be improved like many other things. What do you guys think? Fighting Crown store pets? what damage could they do? useless or useful for PVP or story?

There was a thread on this not long ago. I believe they call them non-combat pets to reinforce that pets are purely cosmetic.

I highly doubt they would add combat pets to the crown store.

They just named them "non-combat pets" so people wouldn't buy a pet and wonder why their awesome set of shiny armor with a pet-effect doesn't work. Happened before...

No, we're not getting them. No, we don't want them. It's an unnecessary complication and power creep; adding combat pets to the game available to all classes, no matter how large or small their impact, will immediately make them required to be competitive, since not having something that's essentially free damage/utility is just gimping yourself.
Additionally, adding them to the crown store is a god-awful idea because that's literally pay-to-win, it'd be adding something that give a blatant, definable, numerical/stat advantage over anyone that doesn't have a pet. Terrible idea.
Also, one last small point, it also detracts from class identity, especially actual pet builds, since at that point, everyone would be a defacto pet build.

Yes, pet builds need some love, but this is NOT the way to do it.

Ah right, I thought it was strange that the name had suddenly changed. Problem is this game is already heading into the area of *pay to win* well actually it is already with the Subscription :)

Well if you pay for the sub you get:

1500 crowns per 30-day membership period.
Access to all downloadable content for the duration of membership.
10% bonus to experience point gain.
    10% bonus to crafting research.
10% bonus to crafting inspiration gain.
    10% bonus to gold acquisition.

In other words, you have an increase on all these, may not seem a lot but I had subbed before, I only came off because I'm subbing for another game now that I rather play, and this increase does make a difference in leveling your characters. Then again most MMO's run this way now... even the one I'm subbing with now has the same as ESO. (if not more expensive though... ): )

While summons are not 'pets' per se, they are often informally referred to that way. I suspect the Crown Critter change to 'non-combat pets' not only clarifies the purchased pets' role but helps avoid some confusion when folks refer to summoned combat critters as pets.

I'm fine with things as they are regarding pets for the reasons cited above. I simply can't get my head around a big cat, wardog or wolf (be it mount or pet) who cannot fight. Therefore my elf happily travels with a horse and a fennic fox or similar small 'familiar' that is clearly not made to fight.
