Scathing Mage and Law of Julianos

Sorry for reviving the topic, but I haven't found a lot of info on Scathing Mage and I'm curious about using it.

Since One Tamriel Scathing Mage also has jewelry, so it's possible to use both. So I've decided to do just that. I'm running 5 Law of Julianos (medium legs, heavy chest, light feet, light waist, inferno/lightning staff) + 5 Scathing Mage (necklace, 2 rings, light hands & shoulders) and 1 Kena (light head). All armor is divines, staves are sharpened. I don't use overload a lot.

My bar setup is:

1. Force Pulse | 2. Velocious Curse | 3. Crystal Fragments | 4. Inner Light | 5. Bound Aegis | U. Ice Comet
1. Blockade of Fire | 2. Liquid Lightning | 3. Power Surge | 4. Boundless Storm | 5. Bound Aegis | U. Fire Rage

I have 2.9K spell damage, ~41K magicka (I don't have the undaunted passive yet) and 71.1% spell critical (74.1% after I throw a frag).

My rotation is something like.

Liquid Lightning -> Blockade of Fire -> Force Pulse + LA -> Velocious Curse (refresh when it blows up) -> Force Pulse + LA -> Force Pulse + LA -> crystal fragments when they proc -> Force Pulse + LA then refresh DoTs when they expire.

I've seen Scathing Mage proc from force pulse, light attacks, frags and even the first tick of DoTs (had it proc on back bar) so it seems to be pretty effective. I don't have a lot of experience as DD and my rotation is not quick enough, but I've been able to achieve about 25-30K single target and up to 70K AOE according to combat metrics without debuffs. So there is certainly potential in this combo. Probably not as good as using 3-5 pieces of Infallible Mage, but good enough until I get those.

I think burning spellweave + llambris + infallible aether is the current meta for pve dps for a sorc. I have however heard of some overload builds using elegant but I think that's mostly for maelstrom. Im not even sure scathing mage is really worth farming for anymore.

I'm using SM because I already have it from all those VICP pledge runs. I don't have IA yet because I haven't run vet trials. In time I will get that too. Meanwhile I've been improving with SM. Reached about 32K DPS ST and 70K AOE only with self buffs. I will need to improve my rotation though so I will probably reach higher than that.

Scathing is slightly better as a front bar set if you have a good way to proc it (direct damage like Force Pulse), but it’s terrible for DoT builds (like Magplar, since uptimes drop when you start beaming). I’d go with Julianos if it’s going on body or jewelry, or if you want a crafted set to get 5-1-1 armor weight. Mother’s Sorrow or False Gods will beat both of these sets most of the time anyway.
