I run a similar build and my gear is 5H/2L , Kagrenac five piece + BSW five piece + Grothdarr ... 6/7 armor Impen. Race is Imperial and a vampire. Major difference being that I run DW sharpened swords on my offensive bar (SnB on defensive / heal bar).

I'm having trouble healing myself enough even after igneous + coagulating blood especially during 1v1, perhaps what I need help on is CP allocation, gear selection and enchants (using prismatic on all armor pcs atm).

I use Witchmother's brew for drink buff and alternate between spell power pots / magicka immovable pots. Magicka regen is around 1350.

I am pretty sure that your problem is why mDK is considered bad right now. The healing on it is really bad. In a 1v1, my main heal is burning embers. Keep burning embers on your target and whenever you need a heal, reapply it to the target. The strength of the heal works kind of like rally. Power whip is an okay heal as well. In outnumbered situations, I recommend putting burning embers on two to three people but put it on 3 seconds after you put the last one on so that you get a burst heal every 3 seconds or so. However this is kind of hard to pull off a lot of the time. Battle roar, bats, and inhale are really great heals when you can't rely on burning embers. Also, you might like health, stam, and magicka potions as that is what I use and I often use them as a burst heal as well. Try not to be in mist form when your burning embers is about to pop or you won't get the heal. It might help to even count down the duration in your head if reapplying the dot to the person for the heal will be too hard to pull off.

You can't keep yourself alive with Dragon Blood unless nothing is attacking you. This is the Number 1 Dk weakness right now.

Learn to rely on Power Lash, inhale, burning embers, and Bats for heals. Basically, if you get into a situation where you are getting focused hard you have to have the discipline to keep attacking. Use mist form to reposition yourself or buy time for a potion.

Also, your stamina will be really low if you don't run tri food or trainee set. Strongly urge you to do one or the other. Kagrenac is a solid set... But there are better options for mDK. Some to consider: Tava, Trainee, Desert Rose, Magicka Furnace.

While the damage on DW is high, I think you will find better survivability with sw/Sh, even on your main bar. Destro staff will also outperform dual wield on a mDK for two reasons: Eye of the Storm and heavy attack weaving.

I run this exact build too and swap the monster set accordingly between Grothdar, Valkn, and Blood Spawn. Alot of people tell me this setup isnt that good because I do not have enough damage. But the max stats especially stamina is great for permablocking.

I find the damage to be really high. And that is a good idea with the monster masks.

Thank you for sharing. I was not aware the heal from embers (upon expiring) would not be received when in mist form. Admittedly, my heavy armor DK was stronger when specced into stam but the lure of magicka keeps pulling me back, its harder to master but its so much more fun to play (^_^)

May I ask what is the unbuffed spell damage and what mundus stone you suggest ? Reason I chose BSW and Kags is for the increased spell damage (222 from Kags and an extra 550+ when BSW procs). Although I agree running Seducer + Traine would provide more stats and sustain.

Thank you for your input. I agree that dual wielding may not be the optimal choice and will take your advice into consideration.

And Trainee may be the better alternative (for me) as I am concerned that tri-food would make my magicka regen suffer. This needs further testing on my part.

My unbuffed spell damage is only about 1850 or so and I use the atronach mundus.
