Gifting Crown Crates to friends

I would really like to see the ability to gift crown crates to friends. Is that in the realm of possibilities some time in the future?

Gifting in general would be excellent. I'd love to gift a few goodies to friends in the game.
RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend, my Shining Light. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

The whole crown crate issue aside, the problem with that is that is the same as with any virtual currency item, It can be turned into RMT outside the game and used to launder money and stolen credit cards.

This has really plagued the industry for decades. Its worst manifestation has been the game codes black market.

I'm sorry but that is just false.

I'm sorry that it's true. Wish it were not. I know it sounds bizarre but I've been in the industry for a long, long time and there is a massive gray economy with online games beyond simple RMT from gold farming, sadly.

As soon as gifting of crown items becomes a legit thing, you'll have people paying in game gold and items for those crown wares. It will happen within seconds of that update going live. If there is a shady player on either side of that deal (gold seller/buyer, etc.), prepare for the ban hammer to hit hard on both parties, even the innocent side.

It's a pity really because I have friends I'd like to give crowns to who are having a tough time and would enjoy some of the DLCs especially with the holidays coming.

Richard Bartle covered this pretty well in his latest book from the standpoint of what it costs the industry. The darker side of it - the money laundering and stolen credit cards - go back to Ultima Online and it only got worse from there.

Again, I'm not trying to be dramatic here. A simple google search on the subject will deliver plenty of that....along with more data based and credible evidence.

I'm not sure if it's cool or not, but you could just buy a crown points card and mail them the code for it. As long as you get no compensation, it shouldn't be much different than them just buying it themselves. They enter the code and get the crowns to spend on whatever they want.
