What's a minimum reasonable health for tanking normal and vet dungeons?

With Magicka DPS builds (NB, DK), I tank vet dungeons with 17-19k health.

Reasonable? 25-30k. Can you tank at most dungeons at 20k if you know your stuff? Sure. Is there a chance people will question your build in group finder? Darn right.

On the high end, 30k is a good target. People that tank at 50-60k health are usually pretty awful in my experience. Certainly not true of everyone, but a 50k tank worries me more than a 20k tank does. To get that kind of health, you are sacrificing way too much IMO.

I like to have at least 30k.

I'd suggest all heavy. If you think you are tanky in medium, you ain't seen nothing yet lol.

If you don't want to modify your current setup too much then I'd suggest you just stay as a dps and make a new toon to be a tank.

It'll save you a lot of heartache in the long run if you want to tank vet dungeons.

Nah I'm determined to make a good sorc tank. I won't do it right away since I'm now collecting the heavy sets I neglected before. I'm also training 1HD + S with the old slot the skills before you turn in quests trick (up to 30 so far) and wearing a couple pieces of heavy to train that up as well.

I don't want to be a half***ed tank and give sorc tanks a bad name lol. I already have all the relevant PVP skills trained and morphed (warhorn, caltrops, vigor)... I'll get there by the weekend :)

I was working on an Orc sorc tank for a while back in the spring. Ultimately I deleted that toon for a NB build as I already have 2 tank builds.

I've read that sorc tanks are good as a tank once you get use to the skills and rotations that work.

    No more than 15k
Looks like a troll post to me...

You really need to find what works for you, gear and other settings also come into it. With 5pc heavy, 25k might be enough for normal dungeons, 30-35k for vet. Start at 30 and you can play around with it from there and find what works best for you.

It also depends on who you are running with, if you are running PUG's all of the time, better to have more rather than less. If you are running with regular friends or guild mates who have better builds or are more reliable with DPS and heals, you might be able to drop the health down in favour of other stuff.

I am not too experienced with tanking... as I've only been running a tank in dungeons since One Tamriel release... but I have found that I can get away with 24-28k health in Vet dungeons IF my resistances are high (28-32k). Basically trading off a lower health pool for greater damage mitigation.

I once tanked and had 65k. They said it was to much. they told me around 25-30k was more then enough.

At 65k I had totally no DPS and expected is tanks to be versatile. DPS (10k on boss) en be able to buff/debuff.

    So 30k should be fine.

65k is nice for a blazing shield tank though. I have one great for pve and pvp

I sit comfortibly at 33 K health with full CP and 21 K magicka and 15 K stam with tri-stat food. The people saying 33 K health gives you *** all resources to work with is nonsense, at full CP.

Combined with the changes to CP trees, just go full into hardy and elemental defender and dont worry about resisances. Sit around 30 K and you'll be fine.

I had people call me a scrub for running 30 K health.

Granted, this was by a dude with Dro-mathra who was just being an stubborn idiot but still.

A better question would be, how much damage mitigation do I need to Tank

It really depends more on the Dungeon.

Every dungeon prior to Vet CoA 2 can probably be done with 23K health.

vCoA 2 and Vet DLC dungeons you might want to aim for 25-27k, depending on how comfortable you are with those dungeons.

These are some low hp numbers, I don't see why you need to sacrifice hp for a huge resource pool, it's not like you are trying to do dps. I run all points in hp and 22k stam after food is way more than enough with cp in cost reduction, but then again im a nb so I don't have the same resource management problems that dks seem to have.

Normal Dungeons? You could tank with a wet noodle.

Vet? Perhaps 25-35k depending on the dungeon, not hard numbers just fielding a guess. Really your resistances are going to be suffering more than your health, perhaps reinforce your armor.

I don't sacrifice hp to get a huge ressource pool. I start with a dd build and increase my hp as much as needed :)
That's not better or worse but just two different philosophies of how to play this game.
