Little Node Facts About Farming

1. Nodes are not owned by any player, and the resources acquired belong to any player until they are collected and placed in a player's inventory.

2. There are no official ESO rules regarding node harvesting, only different opinions on player etiquette (or lack thereof).

So, there's two facts about nodes. Feel free to add any facts you know about nodes or farming that are pertinent

Opinions about farming nodes, and how it should be done belong in other threads related to entitlement, anger, and regret.

Go to lower populated zones for farming. I was on a Starter Island today and it took me 15 minutes to go a distance I could have done on a horse in 2. Reason, there were nodes upon nodes upon nodes. From anyone node I could look around and see 4 or 5 others.

Take all the stuff, baits sell, Ta's you can vendor. If you have a crafting bag, there are no space limits, so don't worry about filling them.

If someone is fighting a mob near a node, it's their node unless they walk away from it. Throw out a couple of skills to help them, then move on. They may return the favor in a few minutes as you farm the same area.

If someone is already farming your route, go to the other end of it and start there.

It takes 5 to 20 minutes for a Node to Respawn, normally. However some nodes are set to respawn quicker if there are more players around. So, no need to be a tool and steal a node from under someone, go 10 meters, you will find another. Plan your routes with this timer in mind.

If you find an area that is node rich, maybe in a certain type of node you need a good supply of, park an Alt there. Log into the Alt a few times a play session or at least at the beginning and end of the play session to farm that spot. It will be amazing how much you acquire at the end of a week doing this every day or every other day.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    Wrong.

I never mentioned "ethics" because it's not part of this discussion. Feelings and emotions are for a different thread - this one is about node & farming facts.

If I am killing a NPC by a node, then the node is mine. If someone is fighting by a node, help them kill the NPC (may be) and move on. FACT: by doing this simple rule of thumb, it will bring people ESO together and more willing to help each other out. Who knows, one might make a new friend by doing this.

If you go around stealing other people's nodes that will lead to bitterness and bitterness will make ESO a toxic place. We do NOT want toxic people here.

The game has lotsa lotsa lotsa lotsa resources tied ti "if you kill x you get y" FACT.

Resource nodes, butterflies, torhcbugs, fleshflies treasure chest (other than map chest and specific rewards chests like dolmen ) are not at all in the "if you kill x you get y" type. FACT.

For those who doubt this, zos even put a "if fail, pause so others can get in" feature for chests. That would be stupid if zos meant for "claims" to matter over actual success. FACT plus conclusion.

bitterness, ire etc comes FROM the player who feels his presence earns him claim to some number of nodes even if he has not done what is needed to acquire them. Likely opinion.

If everyone treated it as race to acquire, not race to get close... no bitternesd.

Saying I was close to the node so it's mine is like running a race and getting close to the finish line only to be passed at the end and calling the guy ehow won a thief because you were close before they were.

The finish line is acquisition not proximity.

You don't get to awesome death match a chicken and lay valid claim to every node that meets whatever your radius of choice is.

@Nestor good point about the respawn being tied to local population, it has made the areas people heavily congregate in have a good supply of nodes about. Since they're all dueling or whatever, you can usually mop up the nodes without the competition that drives up the number/refresh rate of said nodes.

There is nearly one second delay from your actions to other players seeing the action. If you see someone running next to you to node, they are actually ahead, and they see you running behind and trying to steal the same node they are already looting.

    1. If you wish to grab every entire node every time, on PC, get the various Auto Loot mods that auto loot them.
    2. Going from previous Harvest Map Addon results, most nodes are arranged in long loops that can be run continuously given enough time and depending on the population in the same loop with you.

I did not say you are not responsible for your actions.

Think about motivation and how we are guided through games. Sure we are all individuals and different, but we most likely share some common ground otherwise we would not be attracted to this game (some aspect of it) or the genre in general.

In the different forums of the different MMO's out there you will find the feedback about how this or that changed the experience for the average gamer. Often it is linked to a different behaviour of the masses.

Again I'm not claiming you personally will be mind controlled - free will and all - but you should be aware of subtle nudges.

If you don't look at it that way games would never improve and we would still play games where you can PK every one and the player loses everything once killed. Some liked it and some put on their rose tinted glasses looking back at the good old days - but fact is those games have not survived at this scale (more of a niche).

Ah but you know very well that this will start that argument. There are already tons of threads on this subject. And I still stand behind my precious statement. I can make the same argument regarding the ethics and it wouldn't change anything. You are baiting people to come in here and complain about this and that. If it makes you feel better about yourself, then by all means, carry on.
And as I am not subscribed to this thread I will probably not get a notification on any other arguments. So by all means, tell us all in the community all the facts.

Fun fact: Players can't take anything in your inventory. Therefore, logic dictates that if its yours I can't steal it, that node belongs to the first to gather it.

I got 2 Kutas yesterday from nodes that I got rage tells for "stealing" so anecdotal evidence suggests a 100% drop rate :P

One great thing about animal sources of mats is the loot is shared. You just need to get in a hit or two on the targets.

Pretty much this. Back when I was in a trading guild (rather, when I needed one), they blacklisted quite a few people. Nowdays I just block them and make sure I don't buy from them, but still.. Zones are toxic now when someone talks about another person disrespecting the node code.

If you aren't in the process of looting the node, it isn't yours. Period, the end.

Some people are polite and gift nodes they can get to people clearing nearby enemies, others are not. Some people will get knocked off of a chest they are in the middle of picking because someone else brought an NPC over that AoEed them. (I've lost master chests to this before. Didn't let myself get too bent because I was still farming a circuit of five bosses in that dungeon in the time most people would get three.)

If you are crying about 3 Ancestor silk, a 0.25% chance of nirncrux, and 3 worms you have a more serious underlying problem and should probably take a break and try another game for a while.
