Golding up a whole set to think that set will need replaced would annoy me , considering the time it takes to get mats , temps, wax etc.

Have you played any other MMO before? This is typically what happens in most MMOs... you grind for gear, get the best you can, and a couple months later the the next DLC is released and better gear is offered, so you grind for your next set of gear.

I played every major title mmo. There's a good reason a lot of us are playing ESO, and the lack of a consistent gear grind is one of them. Look how fabulous Star War Galaxies was and it did not have a gear grind. The upwards gear spiral is an old, cookie cutter system and I am glad there's an MMO out there that doesn't do it.
I want to spend my time doing something with the equipment I own (like cyrodiil), not spending all my time trying to acquire it.

Star Wars Galaxies, never heard of it... apparently it wasn't so 'fabulous' that I remember it. ;) Also, as far as being an "old, cookie cutter system" I believe most current and new MMOs follow this same 'cookie cutter system' so apparently ESO is the exception in this case, not the rule. Also keep in mind the devs said, "More details on that when/if we decide to raise the gear cap. (Note – it won’t be anytime soon)". Now they may have added the 'if' aspect, but the fact the entire sentence starts "More details on that..."... "it won't be anytime soon", indicates to me that they are already thinking about it.

GW2 also dont have this system and its doing great :p

If they raise the gear cap.. I'm literally done... spent a sh!tloads of gold on finding the perfect gear set/build for my char.. (took almost a year - quitting and coming back months after months ofc!) but I ain't a hardcore player who knows how the game works from thick and thin.. all I do is win win win.. in pvp

jokes aside... but I'm defo sure I ain't the only one with this mindset.. either add a way to upgrade 160cp gears rather than recrafting them cause trust me you'll lose out on more players .. except for those hardcore roleplay players who become with their virtual character (yes I know that sounds weird but face the truth you roleplayers!)

I really can't wait for a CP 180 helm to cost 1100 rubedite.

If they do increase the CP gear... why do it by only 20? Lol that'll be pointless... might aswell get it released for every 100 CP so for 561 CP players they can wear 500 CP gears... you guys are asking for it so might aswell get it implemented correctly... then you'll stop crying... oh wait nvm a nerf thread will be released :D

With the evolutionary approach to the game an increase to the gear cap is inevitable.

When the cap was increased from V14 to V16 there was no effort on the part of ZOS to support players with V14 gear who then needed to upgrade.

At that time there was a general concept of 2 or 3 playable characters with the others as Alts. This was mainly driven by the individual character levelling that was in place.

Now the Veteran ranks are fully replaced by Champion Points all level 50+ characters are automatically at the same level.

Many players will have at least 8 characters at max CP level, at least for gear, and have likely worked very hard to equip most if not all their characters with one or more CP160 sets.

Some of course will also have 12 characters.

So how can ZOS manage a gear cap increase without upsetting just about everyone?

My thoughts are to add an upgrade option to crafting stations.

This upgrade option would then allow you to select a gear item as an input and you would need to use the full amount of mats for the target level as if you were crafting a new item. The output would be the same gear item but at higher level.

Perhaps the trait is something that has to remain unchanged otherwise this would affect gameplay.

The enchantment would not be upscaled of course as this is a crafting station activity not at the enchanting table however this is perhaps a small price to pay for being able to upgrade a gear item.
