Ps4 HDR update... Far too dark!

Has anyone else noticed that the game is pretty unplayable during the night cycles? Before today's update the day/night cycles didn't cause much issues for gameplay but since they've introduced HDR support the night cycle is ridiculously dark.

Fiddling with the brightness just makes the day cycle look stupidly bright.

I'm all for realism, but my mount keeps bumping into everything!

I noticed my Xbox version was much darker as well.. Better quality, but a lot darker.

This is also coming from myself who does not even have an Xbox One S with the HDR. So i can only imagine the lighting changes you are experiencing.

    Depends on the TV.
I have a four year or maybe even 6 year old Samsun LED TV that has a game mode.
If I use the Xbox one (not Xbox one S) suggested settings and the Samsung game mode suggested settings the darks and dark but the lights and stuff are bright.

I'm seeing very awesome contrasts and know it would be more pronounced if I had an HDR tv and Xbox one S

I have to assume the PS4 new update should align better with targeted TVs
Did you mess around with your PS4 settings and does your tv have a game mode?

You can just adjust the game brightness too in settings with the three logos. If you tune it so all three are visible it'll be very bright.

I have mine so the far left is barely showing.....

Ive tried game mode, it's still stupidly dark.

I've got a spanking new 4K HDR Samsung, checked all the settings and other games are fine... Just eso. :/

People are so quick to use the word "unplayable" that it doesn't even mean anything anymore. Change the brightness.

Ahh if you have one of the new Samsung 4K TVs with HDR then you're actually seeing a better picture.

    Here is something to consider.
Most games don't have HDR. It's less than 10% of current releases and perhaps more overall since 1080p and above it consoles.

It's just going to be an adjustment for many

    Plug it in.
    Turn it on.
    Update the game.
    Update the PS4.
    Update the TV.
    Check the connection.
    Adjust the game under settings.
    Adjust the TV under same.
    Turn on a light.
    Turn off a light.
If you visited any pornographic website on the device or TV download and run a trusted antivirus software pakage.

That should cover 97% of your issues

Edit: Not to be obvious guy but when the sun goes down in un incorporated areas it is very dark outside, just sayin.

    Cool!

Just keep in mind that HDR is how a TV can better differentiate the color palette.
HDR is all about contrast and as much as I like Samsun TV's I'm seeing a much better opportunity with the LG OLED (I don't own one just testing)

I also felt it was too dark (not this game but HDR 10 or Dolby Vision, etc)

Now with the TVs that came out as of October 2016 those around $2500 and up for 65 inches, everything that produces HDR is deeper and stronger colors. What we've gotten use to are high contrast and high gamma video games due to the lack of TV's to produce deep and rich colors.

Some of the high end PC users or those high Rez high response overpriced PC monitors are showing this stuff prior to now.

It's going to be a major adjustment for everyone....just let it sink in cause I think having a PS4 with a 4K HDR tv, you're getting a better experience than those of us without an Xbox one S.

I'm actually impressed with the quality improvement. So much so, I'm frightened to touch anything on my TV or PS4. Armours on other players render in no time at all. Before it used to take around 30 seconds, now it's almost instant. My characters all look more detailed too.

And if you are use to gaming with any light in the room, you might have to turn them all off. A lot of the benefits of HDR are drowned out with any ambient light from around the person watching the screen. If you want to play with HDR, get used to playing in a dark room.

I didn't get the pop up message from ESO asking if i wanted to change to HDR. Instead i had to turn it on from the actual TV menu settings to 'Dynamic'. Hard getting used to, but it's really cool! All colors just POP!
