ESO Gold Edition

Something I just want to clarify before I purchase anything else (have owned ESO for awhile and want to get back into it)

ESO Imperial Edition: access to ESO, plus Imperial Edition items - account wide
ESO Gold Edition: access to ESO, plus DLC and mount - account wide

There is no way to upgrade either versions to the other on an account basis (so if you buy Imperial and want all the DLC, you are stuck buying the Guilds and Glory pack via the Crown Store, thus restricting DLC to one server, or you buy the Imperial Upgrade via the Crown Store restricting it to one server).

So, the only way to "upgrade" my Imperial Edition and have all DLC across all servers is to become an ESO+ subscriber?

For 5500 crowns one can purchase the original 4 DLCs in game.

The imperial edition is also available in the crown store but I do not now the price.

Yes. That I am aware of. But, at least as far as I have been able to find, because the DLC is purchased through the Crown Store, the content is only available through the server you purchased it on. So if I want to play on both servers, I would have to purchase the content twice.

Whereas, if I purchase the Gold Edition (which would require a new account), the DLC would be available account wide, but I would lose my Imperial content since it's not included in that edition.

Yes, you are correct. There's no way to upgrade an existing account with either the Imperial Edition or Gold Edition and get the benefits account-wide, and you are instead stuck with the Imperial Upgrade or Guilds and Glory, which are server-bound..

However, if you have an existing ESO account (non-Steam) and then purchase the Gold Edition on Steam, you can link your Steam account to your existing ESO account, which will overwrite the current status of your ESO account and give you the Gold Edition account-wide, on top of whatever you already have. Note that if you do this, from then on you'll have to log into the game through Steam.

Well shucks! My account is already linked through Steam. I didn't originally buy it through Steam, but it's always loaded through Steam anyway.

Would that still work, since the account was pre-existing before being linked? Or would I have to have done it before linking the accounts?

Buying the dlc pack in-game doesn't give you the palamino horse mount that is given in the gold edition.

Also, depending on country and which platform makes a difference too.

buying the 5500 crown store version costs more and gives less than the retail gold edition.

So does this mean the same problem for PS4? Existing users can't make use of buying the gold edition to get the palamino horse?

I have no idea :stuck_out_tongue: Have you ever purchased any ESO editions through Steam? If not, it might still work. Depends on whether you're willing to test it; I would imagine Steam would not allow you to purchase the Gold Edition at all if it were not possible to do it.

No, it's actually a different situation for consoles. Console purchases of the Gold Edition come with a "Gold Pack" redeemable code for the DLC and horse, which will work just fine on an existing account, in theory.

Hmm, I suppose I could try it. I did log into Steam (from the desktop app, just to be even more sure) and I can purchase the Gold Edition. If I go to the Imperial Edition it tells me it's in my library, though I can still purchase it for a gift I imagine. The Gold Edition does not mention being part of my library. I am tempted to get it and try while it's on sale. But I play so sporadically that I'm not sure if it's worth it. None of my 4 characters are past level 11. lol

Isn't the 500 crowns also in that gold pack though? it specifies new accounts for the 500 crowns so by that wouldn't the same apply to it all?

No, the 500 Crowns is for new accounts, so that comes when you create your account, and not with the Gold Pack code.

What... so literally any new accounts just get 500 crowns? not even tied specifically to gold edition? I never got 500 crowns when i originally bought it. So i'm a little confused how is it not tied to the gold pack code itself?

You should have received 500 Crowns when you first purchased the game and created your account; if you didn't, something went wrong.
