How much immersion do you like in your RPGs?

It goes without saying that there will be many different takes on what is considered true role-playing. Some players take it so seriously that if their character has died, regardless of the time and effort put in to the character, they will completely start a new character and story.

Some people playing as werewolves will only change on the full moon in-game, and some vampire players will not eat consumable foods unless it's blood-based or representative of being a vampire. Some people playing as a anti-supernatural hunter will not play with players pretending to be supernatural creatures. And some even talk like their character in forums.

So what about you? How deep do you like the rabbit hole to go? Are you a role-player or a no-player? I think this will give the developers a deeper knowing of whether or not they should continue to focus on content that allows the community to embrace their fantastical fun or keep it practical.

Use this as a measuring rule: When housing comes out, are you the type of player that cares whether you can interact with the furniture like sitting down and such, or could you care less about those details?

My first RPG was 'Maxis" The Sims. It was the game of all games that got me hooked. I stopped playing the Sims with Sims 4 because it was a complete regression on previous Sims games - as far as character development was concerned.

I am not too bothered about RP in MMOs but I do wear costumes. I do that mainly to conceal the hotch-potch of styles of my Legendary armour. I do not like wasting gold mats. Once in costume, I try to live up to the epitome of that character but the costme does not rule the game.

I liked a lot of Housing features in Skyrim's Heathfire DLC and would dearly love to buy a plot of land in Tamriel and do a self build. I do not expect the diversity of building options to be anywhere near as extensive as the Sims.

In my view, there is no point in having a beautiful home if one does not spend any time there and its sole purpose is only to exhibit trophies and to store away surplus junk. A lock-up garage or shed would suit that purpose just fine, so long as it was burgle-proof and kept the Hews Bane Elite out.

It would be nice to have a home into which friends could come and one was able to offer them a degree of hospitality. After a long day of questing some food and drink would be welcome, a place to sit down, perhaps Tamriel's equivalent of Croquet or Tennis on the lawn, and a few other befitting creature comforts to enjoy.

I'm very into roleplaying but the nature of my character is such that she is a wandering adventuress. I'd love interacting with chairs and such in taverns where she might spend the evening or the night but have no interest in a permanent home (unless I could get a traveling/camping tent).

I tend to play Dead is Dead in almost every RPG I play apart from those very time consuming RPG's that are on rails. For example, if i was nearing the end of Dragon Age I wouldn't start all over again if I was very deep into the game because BioWare games tend to force you back onto a narrow story driven path. Games such as Fallout, TES etc don't force you into anything in particular so I don't mind losing 50 odd hours of gameplay.

I don't see the appeal in walking slowly say from Whiterun to Riften over and over again, so I wouldn't do that. It's not my thing and I would rather spend that time walking outside myself and getting real benefit from such a mundane task. There again, there are many who don't see the appeal in throwing away 100's of hours of gameplay just because some fictional game character happened to die once.

Roleplaying my character and interacting with other people, the environment and the setting in a particular way are some of the reasons why I play this game and why I enjoy it so much. Their looks and appearance are incredibly important, but their behaviour, their mannerisms and their habits are what makes them different or stand out. I create them on paper beforehand as this really helps me to set out some formal and informal plans, aspirations and restrictions that I want to achieve. For example, my Breton dislikes killing animals and so I try to avoid them where possible, keeping a fair distance from wolves or bears (NB: wish we had a 'pacify' spell or something similar). He is also weak and sickly and so has to ingest potions and elixirs to help his ailments. Needless to say, he spends a fair bit of time searching for herbs and alchemical ingredients for this purpose. In my humble opinion, a game that focuses on attention to detail, has a variety of choice and opportunities to engage with the world around us can certainly help to make that place more interesting for roleplay.

As for housing, my characters prefer to wander across Tamriel and one of them in particular prefers a simple, humble life outdoors. I'd have loved to see a tent or makeshift camp that I could use... and interact with, of course.

I don't RP usually, but I do think that furniture should be functional and able to be utilized/sat in just "because". I try and think about and leave room for things in the future. I have no way of knowing if at some point in time in the future I'll just fall in love with RPing or just want to have guild members over for a meeting or something, and by the gods.. I'd like people to be able to sit down if they want to!! :)

I love roleplaying, that is the only reason I play MMOs, the feel of leaving my dready reality behind to indulge in some fantasy. And the more immersive, the better, though I recognize that some people prefer a little... less immersive realism then me...
But furniture really ought to be interactable! ;)

RPG in this game is the worst I've seen in ages. They make the garbage that was DA inquisition look impressive. I don't even get dialogue choices or options. Just doing what I am told. My toons are all just instruments of battle. Nothing more.

There was a moment, after buying the Cyrod Gentry's Town Gown. I put it on my Khajiit girl, gave her the long braided ponytail, and imagined her as like an esteemed envoy to the Empire from Elsweyr, attending one of those fancy dinners or Balls.

    ...yeah I kinda like Immersion.

Role playing and immersion do not go hand in hand, so the answers are flawed.

For example, I never ever role play. Never have.

That said, I much prefer RPGs that are as "living" and "believable" as possible, including believable and animated characters, intractable furniture and the ability to fully customise my character's appearance to look exactly how I'd like it to - none of which we really have in ESO currently.

I would like it to be as much as possible but I can live without the ability to pick up every fork in an MMO, in a single player game like Skyrim I am a bit more picky.

I do like an immersive game. Something that makes you feel like you can get lost in the world.

I think ESo does that quite well, but then some other player runs past with bright orange monster head, and shoulder, at a comically impossible speed astride a glowing blue panther, before jumping off while still moving to pickaxe at a glowing red bit of rock and then proceeding to become surrounded in a swirling lightning storm before becoming half transparent and running off into the distance again, at the same time as leaving behind 4 archer skeletons running after him like he’d just dropped his wallet.

At this point, I get smacked in the face with reality and remember its just a game. Then one of the kids shouts that the other has punched him on the arm ‘on purpose’ before all hell breaks loose and I switch the game off.

Being a casual player with a family doesn’t really make for immersion. Hence my limited time of an hour or so when everyone has gone to bed

Not that polls are worthwhile since they do not show the gaming communities opinions, merely those in the forums that happen to choose to vote.

However, to many answers in this poll to even make it interesting information.
