Has anyone in the world actually seen one of these mythical ciphers?
Its been a week and a million or 2 monsters have been sliced diced and fried, surely someone has seen one....

You do realize this was added to put away the argument "150% xp scrolls cant be obtained in game!".

Yes, theoretically one can craft these potions now, but practically nah. This is just a way for them to say that the pots that will drop from crown crates are in fact obtainable ingame. Once crown crates come out people will see making these pots is so extremely tedious and expensive they'll just buy crown crates. Which to me is exactly what this whole move was about. Dodging the whole "crown store only" thing by making the pots theoretically obtainable, but practically unreasonable.

Would love a response from ZOS. It can be "incredibly" rare but for there to be NO drop over the course of a week - Anywhere - is very suspect.

My guess best comparison for drop is the imperial motif (or similar). I managed to find one after 2 years with over 100 days playtime and ocd to loot all sh!t. No other legendary motifs so far. That's where I'd put my expectations on this one.

I've not seen one myself and haven't heard of anyone getting one either. It would be good to get a report of at least one dropping. With the number of players killing mobs over the course of a week, if it hasn't dropped at all, I'd ask ZOS to look into it to see if they flipped the switch on yet.Thousands of players killing thousands of mobs and not one drop puts this at a rate of less than 1 in a million. Extremely rare? I guess so.

I've been playing since beta and had no Daedric motif drops, or Ancient Elf, and never a Dwemer Helm motif piece.

Do these not exist either?

Maybe you haven't gotten these, but surely you've seen compelling evidence that others have. A quick browse through any big guild store will confirm this. The same is not true of the Cipher. There is not a single known instance of it dropping for any player, anywhere.

I've seen a couple of dust on the kiosks, but yeah, no cipher. People have the chat link, though whether that's from datamining the link info or from actually having it in their inventory is a another matter.

It's a simple trick bro...they haven't put any content in game for more than 5 months now...the main focus if you'd have noticed has been into getting new players and to take them to higher levels as fast as possible so that they don't leave feeling under powered. It's been clear 5 months of grind and to continue the get new players as well as keep everyone busy with grind, came the idea of pots...though it was never supposed ot be easy as they want us to grind some more till next patch where again no new content will come for old players to do...so they'll leave and new will take over...

grind grind grind.....and some more grind....did i mentioned to grind a bit more...ah you can't grind enough...so a bit more ...did u get the stuff you wanted? no? grind again pls...still not?..... keep grinding....grinding is fun...you are a mindless zombie now...grind is all you can do....keep grinding....

@ZOS_GinaBruno, it would be really helpful to get some statistics on how many Aetheric Ciphers have dropped so far, or even *if* there have been drops. It's highly suspicious to not see any ciphers or mythic ambrosia pots for sale on guild traders or zone chat. Each rumor I've looked into from people saying "I saw one" or "I heard someone got one" ended up being people talking about the Dust instead.

At this point, it seems like it's not dropping at all. Very demoralizing after grinding for days.

Also, I and others have been offering millions in zone chat, and also large finders fees, without a single nibble.

To be honest @Woeler said it all. They were introduced as a result of Zos accepting that every consumable in the crown store crates should be available in game.

Its sad that the drop rate is so stupidly low. But more, its scary, instead of Zos saying fair and removing them, they basically showed that they are willing to put OP (i know i know in reality the xp boost is useless bc of undaunted etc) items in the crown store and then make them available in the game

The ironic thing is that the rarity of drops and the royal pain it is to craft them in game does nothing to defuse the criticism. If anything, it adds a new layer of sleaziness to the whole affair. I think most people can see through the "but it can also be crafted in game" PR when it's something that goes well beyond the already grindy and rare regular XP potion crafting.

I think, if I read the information correctly, you also have to have a new, separate instance of the complete recipe for ambrosia in your inventory, then get the cypher, then transform the normal ambrosia recipe to the new one. Its why pieces of the recipe are selling for 50k and up. People need an additional copy of the recipe even if they already know it. I could be wrong, but, there hasn't been more official information that I know of.

For me, it's just another thing that I'm not going to bother with.

The whole process of making it - combined with the rarity of the drop, dust, PS recipe, AND ingredients seem like it is just more pain than it's worth.

If one magically drops in my lap, I will probably just sell it out of spite for the process itself.

Oh, and the fact that I have NEVER even used an XP scroll or potion.

So can you clarify the old drop % and the new drop % or what was fixed that prevented it from dropping.

True, but this is not an OP item. It does not give anything you can't get otherwise. It just makes grinding somewhat faster.

Now for whatever reason people expect to get it immediately and have a permanent xp bonus. If not then it's the fault of ZOS' greed and P2W is upon us...

Also worth to mention there are already very rare items that can be bought in the Crown Store, like the glass motif book. Don't see how this would differ.
