I recently returned to the game, so I thought I'd just share some positive feedback about the time I am currently having since returning. This is mostly for ZOS so they know that people enjoy and appreciate their game, but feel free to read the big block of text, and even tell me about the fun times you're currently having in game!
First a little background:
I started playing the day the game launched (never got into beta :'( oh well) and I made a khajiit sorceress. While I loved playing her, and trundled through 80% of the Daggerfall Covenant content and maybe half of Wrothgar, she quickly became my crafting alt. I piled ALL my points into crafting, with just enough defensive skills that she could survive a run to some of the more dangerous crafting stations. I made several other characters, nightblades and tempars and even a Dragonknight, but my Sorc was my constant companion, my crafter, my bank alt.
But despite being my first she was never my "main." Hell I never really had a main. Why? Because I'm an RPer. I managed to get one of each class to max level during that big double XP event by farming Old Orsinium until my eyes bled. So none of my characters have a lot of content cleared, or a lot of gold, or a lot of skyshards and skillpoints. I've always been lackluster at actually Playing this game, I've always just done the bare minimum to get the gold to get style motifs to support my RP lifestyle. Anyway... a few months back I got bored and quit.
Cut to now,
I've recently returned and am now experiencing all the changes that have come recently, most notable are One Tamriel, and the removal of Vet ranks. I mean...wow. This feels like an entirely different game.
I returned to find my beloved Sorc had extra skill points now that she shared champion points with those my other characters had earned, and we were awarded the skill points that had been granted for VR levels, as now she was VR16 equivalent. That was a great surprise! Up to this point ALL her few skill points had been put into crafting. I only had the skill points you get for 1-50 and the skyshards I collected doing just the Daggerfall zones. So I had all maxed out crafting with just enough points in defensive skills for her to survive running to the more dangerous crafting locations.
Now I decided to respec her, and took out all points from Alchemy and Provisioning, as well as points from the Hirelings and the Keen Eye skills that let you better see nodes. This, coupled with the points I got from removal of vet ranks allowed me to actually give her a halfway decent stamina sorc build. For the first time in a while I've been able to actually do content with this character I created on day one and then hardly touched except to craft gear for my alts. And let me tell you, it's been a blast!
Being primarily an RPer, none of my alts have done much content. And I've always only had DC characters. So I have quite literally never done AD or EP zones, I've not completed Wrothgar, IC (or done Cyrodil at all) and have barely touched Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood. So I have so much more content to do. And finally I can do this on my "main"!
I've spent the past week doing the 20% or so of Daggerfall content I hadn't completed. Finishing up the Mages and Fighters guild and getting those leveled up so I can get some of their abilities and passives for my build. Just last night I completed this, collecting all the lorebooks and skyshards in all the Daggerfall zones and finished up a few quests in each zone so now all the icons on my map of DC zones are white. I felt very accomplished, and the OCD kitty in my chest purred happily.
Now I plan to do AD then EP, then Wrothgar, then Thieves Guild, then Dark Brotherhood, collecting every lorebook, skyshard, dolmen, and little world boss on the way, and trying to get all the achievements for dolemans, exploration, quests, crafting, fishing, etc.
Which reminds me! I LOVE that the content that even my gimpy sorc could faceroll over before is now challenging. I attempted to solo one of the little skull and crossbones 'world bosses' in Glenumbra and died several times before realizing that I actually had to block attacks and interrupt spells or get out of the red when they charge or do a special attack against me. Something I'd only ever had to do before in the few dungeons I'd done. It was exciting, and it was so much fun. I'm sure for much more skilled players those are still easy-mode content for them, but I found it challenging and rewarding and when I finally succeeded I was so pleased with myself and my character.
My skills of actually playing this game have improved. I have learned how to swap bars, how to start the next attack before the end of the previous animation, how to block, interrupt, and dodge effectively. I've learned to kite, and to use my abilities and to quickly use my quickslots. Just doing normal content out in the world! I feel like that is amazing. I feel like by the time I finish all the normal solo-able content I'll actually be ready to do dungeons and pledges without being a burden on my party.
I am very excited to try and complete all the content on my main, who I race-changed to a Redguard for a stamina sorc build. I am looking forward to getting all the skill points I can so that I can finish my build, and maybe even get all the skills from my class trees as well as fill in my provisioning and alchemy again (and maybe also get werewolf for the fun of it, and the dark brotherhood and thieves guild passive lines. I dunno how many skill points there are in the game).
Also, as an RPer, all the style change options and things have been a massive blessing, not to mention being able to RP with AD/EP people! I quit but I never unsubscribed so I had a stack of crowns to spend when I got back, and I got several customization/style parlor and costume things that I am greatly enjoying.
So thank you ZOS for what feels like a revitalization of a game I greatly enjoy. I am eagerly awaiting housing!
