What is the Activity Finder's Purpose?

Galenus_of_Pergamon
How would you like the Activity Finder to serve your needs? Should it be for initiating speed runs through dungeons? Alternatively, should it be a social experience that offers players opportunities to meet new friends, learn dungeon mechanics, and to strengthen their builds while completing dungeons?

This. You can always use the group finder to try and make friends, or help out noobs, or get help as a noob, but none of those are really the purpose.

Using the group finder and expecting to get "efficient and effective speed runs through dungeons" is silly IMO. Join a PvE guild if you want speed runs or no death runs.

its for finding groups, tho making it so people of similar CP ranks would be split down the middle (say 500 is cap, anyone between cp 1 and 250 would be in their own queue where as anyone 251 to 500 would be another) so that theres less of this bullcrap kick abuse

Hopefully the endless arguments will yield a democratic majority preference and Zenimax can take note.

This poll is at least quantitative to some degree. Quantity of responses are easier to evaluate than quality.

Admittedly though, it's a flawed pole because it doesn't capture everyone's very specific philosophy about the Activity Finder's Purpose, but it's a start.

Well, it used to be a lot easier to sort out skill level as none of us knew wtf we were doing. I'd say there's a hell of a lot more "tiers" of player skill than awful/moderate/elite.

I used to say that, when doing group activities, it's incumbent on each person to not waste the others' time, otherwise you can just go do something alone.

The amount of time I used to stand around waiting for prima donnas at the entrance to trials and then watch them die in giant red circles is crazy. Not all of us have played long enough to be familiar with ever class, race and skill combination. It was very illuminating when I just PvPed back in the day and was terribad stamina melee (when that was awful no matter what you did but I correctly thought it'd teach me survival and tactical skills) and I finally played ranged and magicka what others were up to.

I never did and still basically can't bring myself to play with any pugs in any situation, nor be in organized guilds because I've learned the hard-won lesson that (1) not everyone is a good judge of character and only belatedly, after much grief, learn who is a complete turdmonkey or sociopath or just a drag to be around in general and (2) isolating my fun play time from situations where I might have to spend time with the *** of the world is an amazing unburdening that makes playing ESO vastly more fun. There's tons of people I absolutely love; I do not necessarily feel that way about who they play with for conveniences sake.

I will note, however, that the entitled attitude of baddies which insist that people ought to waste their time running them around dungeons while they act like spoiled, none too bright children is baffling.

Theoretically: to put people with less than 3 friends into a dungeon, that ZOS believes requires 4 people, so that they can attempt to complete it.

In reality, the addition of bonus XP for daily randoms and the 15 minute cool down timer has made group finder a tool for all players to use at their own peril.

I no longer care about the daily XP bonuses and will 2 man most non vets because it is less frustrating. I will usually only use group finder for harder non vet dungeons in the hope of a quicker run with 4 people rather than 2.

I am selective about which vet dungeons I run using group finder as I play the game for fun and not frustration.

As the name of the feature suggests, its purpose is to find a group. If it were to have any job beyond that (which it doesn't really) it would be to actually end up with groups that can quickly do dungeons with no difficulties.

I don't use activity finder to actually get content done. I use it as a means to meet other players. If they are players of my skill level, that I enjoy playing with, I'll add them to my friends list or get them a guild invite so I can play with them later without having to use the group finder. Trying to get content done consistently using the group finder instead of using all your available resources is an exercise in frustration.

I think it is fine how it is. It groups people for dungeons. If people do not like the fact that some players are newer to the game and take longer to complete dungeons then perhaps they should join a guild and go with people that they feel are more equally experienced as themselves rather than joining groupfinder and kicking people from the group because they somehow believe that having somebody of a lower lever in their group means that they cannot complete the dungeon properly, as many people constantly complain that they are kicked, which is stupid because if somebody has played the game for a long time, they should expect newer people on group finder, as this is why they are on there is the first place

    @Galenus_of_Pergamon

You left off the current design and the only design that GF should have. To mach 4 players of the appropriate roles to attempt a dungeon. Basically, Poll is seriously flawed.

That is it's purpose as it should be. People that want a social experience of to be setup with players of certain levels or CP should form their groups outside of GF.

    You're correct.

I misworded my original poll question. I meant to ask "What should be the Activity Finder's Purpose?"

So, my intent was to capture people's desire for the group finder's purpose- not its de facto purpose, but everyone's interpretation and extension of that de facto purpose.

Despite that misfortune, we are seeing that simplistic de facto purpose being preferred as evidenced by all of the people voting other, haha.

group finder does not force you to group with three random players. it is fast and convenient when you group with one or two friends and guildies then fill it up with randoms. i tank on NA PC. half pug speedrun for vet pledge hard mode is feasible.

I mainly use the group finder to help random people to complete dungeons which they couldn't complete without an experienced player like me anytime soon.

If I want fast runs I'll form the group manually since the group finder can only create "healer+tank+2dd" groups which usually are not the most efficient if you are familiar with the mechanics.
