Patch 12 Feedback

Hello,

I'm not for sure exactly where to put this. If I've put this in the wrong place, I apologize. Please feel free to direct me in the right direction then close or move this thread. I just wanted to give some feedback on the patch thus far. I figured others would also have some feedback as well. In any case, here's my experience thus far.

Pros:
  • The accessibility with my family and friends in different factions is phenomenal. I really feel like the entire game opened up.
  • The difficulty of the mobs was offputting at first, but I quickly got used to the mob's HP and the amount of xp from them is fantastic. After being over-leveled in zones for the past few months, this was incredibly refreshing.

Cons:
  • The only con I have thus far is the fact that there was nothing (aside from out of game announcements) explaining the changes in game. There should absolutely be some sort of level 1 quest tying this patch in. If you don't want to invest time / money with voice acting and a NPC, then use a letter. There should definitely be something in game explaining the changes and also relate it to the character and story.

Sugestions:
In regards to tying the changes in game, as I previously typed, send out a letter from a diplomat or something, granting the soul shriven amnesty for their travels in different factions. Perhaps word of the soul shriven's peculiar situation (no soul) has caught the eye of the other leaders. This has led them to lift any political backlash in order to have the soul shriven to help their faction / people in this desperate time. The only area with restriction from this amnesty would be Cyrodil.

All in all, this patch is a major success imo thus far. What do you all think about it?

Yep, this is the only gripe I have as well. The story and continuity. New players will be confused as heck. They have to fight covenant troops in one quest and yet he can freely travel to any covenant area and do a quest that requires him to kill his own troops - it just doesn't make sense. Main story/Coldharbour/Cadwells silver/gold explained this and why you could go to the enemy zones as one of their own, but now - everyone is everywhere with no regards or even explanation for it from the storyline. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of having main quest lines around the three-banners war, which us as players are part of.
Others keep saying that not everyone participates in the war, but we as the players are, we don't have the option to go faction less or play a civilian that doesn't harm a soul, we are part of a faction we chose and currently, all that is thrown out of the window.
    Sometimes, I dream about...cheese...

As I stated in another topic, I don't like at all the level scaling. It makes the game flat, and now there are no differences between the zones.

I also don't like the mix between all the factions, even if I understand the reason. It's against the lore to see enemies run freely inside your city.

the basic idea is really good , 'one world for everyone' but all they have done is literally made everything cp 160 and battle scaled everyone, there as been no thought at all into lore and into the original games quest paths , main story and normal quests lead you from zone to zone for a reason, that is all really messed up now, most don't make sens at all

So yeah the whole idea is a good idea but the way it as been done as had no thought put into it at all

Agreed on the story issue. Technically the lore behind it is the same, but they need to clearly explain this to new players who start wandering around to all the zones without finishing the main quest first.

And maybe it's just me, but I wish they would remove all those auto-unlocked Wayshrines in the other starter zones. The standard for Wayshrines is that they unlock when you first enter the respective zone, and that should be maintained.

I am not going to comment on the finer details of Patch 12, as I am not a player that notices this kind of thing - I just play a game to enjoy it, I don't think about scaling, attributes and class balances etc.
I find that, with the Tamriel One idea, it completely removes my motivation to travel between zones. Why should I bother? I can just pick up daily/repeatable quests, do a dungeon and repeat ad infinitum.
I don't like being tied down to a group, so I am a solo player. One of the parts of the update was they made "Craglorn more solo friendly". Well, whoop-de-doo! You have made the rest of Tamriel LESS solo friendly!! I now have NO OPTION but to group up to kill bosses. Especially the ones that have 2 or 3 NPC's. I am being forced to play the game in a way I don't want to.
But I could just about live with that, if they hadn't f-ed up crafting materials!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGHHH!!!! When I play MMORPG's, I farm materials. I will sometimes just log on and not want to do quests, so I wander around farming raw materials to sell on the Auction House. It makes me money, and saves people who are in a rush or lazy the hassle of finding 50 Jute or 100 Sanded Maple. Can I do that now? Not to the level I was doing it. I cannot go to a lower level and farm stuff knowing it'll take me 5-10 minutes to get a decent batch of rawhide (which also ties in to the whole, mobs are levelled to the player bit). And what if I want to craft things to sell. It has increased the hassle and removed a valuable source of income for many players.
Honestly, it has actually ruined the game for me. After the patch was released, I have hardly played the game, except to go on and check my mail, and do the Halloween thing, and even then, it was log on, collect a few skulls and log off. Nothing else. I really think they should not be allowed to change such a major part of the game so long after the game was released.
I doubt they are ever going to make everyone happy, there will be plenty of people like me, who want level zones, mobs NOT scalled to player level and all crafting materials available in the appropriate area, and then plenty of people who love these changes.

I think the only real solution is to offer players a choice. Do they want to play Zoned or Tamriel One - either on their settings or as separate servers (Europe Zoned and Europe Tamriel One, for example).

The overworld content changes were great.

The effect it had on group content is driving people away from it.

Before, one of the saving graces of the group content in this game is it was easy enough to where weird builds could prevail and DPS wasn't as much of an issue. Which is good because the first and second year design philosophies clashed horribly. Now with the resistance and damage changes to group content any leeway is gone and the onus is on DPS to make what was once simple, bearable. Rampent eliteism ensues, and anyone not running 'meta' which no one reasonable would know or be taught via basic game mechanics, is kicked from even basic dungeons, let alone raids.

Before, people could reasonibly infer some basics and be fine with dungeons with raids requiring build overhauls and co-ordination. This is fine. Raids are where that sort of stuff should take place, yet to run Dungeons in a bearable ammount of time now, you need monster helm sets and raid gear. You should never need raid gear for a dungeon. You should never need dungeon gear to run that same dungeon. This is madness.

This has been one of the worst patches in the history of this game for endgame PVE.
