AOE ability circles not dropping where they're supposed to

Particularly when you're standing on top of a keep between battlements. You drop an AOE ability that you made sure lined up on the ground, and they land right next to you, 40 feet higher than where you placed them and utterly useless. What's the point of the "preview" that shows they'll land on the ground when they don't land on the ground?

Why hasn't Zenimax fixed this? It's been forever and there's no possible strategic justification for it. Plus it makes you feel really stupid.

I'm imagining responses advising on how to do it "correctly" so as to make sure you don't hit a battlement, and getting infuriated since it's not the point. Fix it.

    I might be really wrong on this one, but I think that is due to one of their "fixes", related to gap closing into keeps issue. Not saying that gap closing is fixed now.

    Thanks for the response. Could you elucidate a little further on what you mean by gap closing into keeps? The only way I know the term gap closing is from abilities like empowering chains, where it's a category of abilities that moves enemies closer to you and vice versa.

    Oh wait, maybe I just figured out what you meant. Is it a safeguard against using things like chains to unfairly snatch enemies up or down?

    If that's the case, sounds like a halfway decent excuse. I've thought about the potential for doing that and have laughed pretty hard at what it would look like.

    But obviously still needs fixing. You shouldn't have your caltrops blocked by something you've made sure to avoid because of the possibility to do something drastic with an entirely different ability and intention.
