Need an advice for a beginner sorcerer

Calgary_Hockey
I am level 12 sorcerer and Ultimate spell is my best spell, however, I don't seem to catch up with the rest of players because they caused so much damages.

I don't have a set of gears because most of them are for level 50+ in the market.

Any advice on how to improve on my spell damages? I don't want to switch to sword and become a warrior.

You can craft your own gear. Other than that, just make use of quest rewards and whatever you happen to find to keep your gear updated. Since you're under fifty, you're kind of in that "take whatever you can get" spot.

There are also crafted sets you could make use of. You'd have to return occasionally to upgrade as you level, but they would be a consistent source of set bonuses for you. If you decide to get into crafting, start researching traits yesterday. Crafted sets require various numbers of traits to have been researched to unlock them and researching all nine traits on a single item takes months to finish.

Focus on your magicka. More magicaka = more damage. Craft gear that helps with this(light armor), and enchant it with magicka bonuses. Research items whenever you can so you can craft item sets with good bonuses that build magicka/spell damage. Oh and keep looking for Mage's Guild books. Magelight gives you an extra boost, and their ultimate is still pretty good for crowd control.

I'm a lvl 50 Sorc, and I use dual wield swords, but I never use them. I just keep them as part of a crafted set that gets me better critical damage. Even with a staff I never use normal or heavy attacks, I just use sorcerer abilities and Magelight.

To clarify you should also put some work into summons. While not useful later, they are good at keeping you alive until you start getting the better gear.

First my generic what to do as a new player blurb (open the Spoiler):
If you need Gold, engage the Legerdemain System and Steal and Fence. There are many areas that are rich in things to steal with few to no NPCs around so the risk is next to 0.

Gear, with Enchants that help your character is important. Not meaning you need the best set, you just need something. And, don't forget Jewelry, either normal stuff, or something that is part of a set. Just have something in all your slots. Note, while leveling, try to wear a mix of armor weights so they all level up. Food can help, Blue for early levels, Purple for higher ones.

Have a Class Skill and a Weapon skill on your bar at all times so you can get those leveled. Mix in a 5th skill to level up and use along the way. Once you get a skill to Morph stage, you may want to slot another one and get that to Morph rather than build the previous one all the way up. Save maxing your skills for later.

World Bosses are not designed to be solo'd. Wait for other players to show up, or send out a Zone chat that such and such World Boss is up, people will show up, as they are farming dropped set items.

Join a good guild, sometimes you can find one by running with a random player, sometimes from zone chat, sometimes from a thread on the boards here. You can always drop a guild, so don't worry about doing that. There is no black list unless you are a complete tool, and while there is still no list, word will get around if you just dump on everyone all the time. But, try a guild, then leave for whatever reason? No worries there.

Delve Bosses you can solo, if your gear is decent (not the best, just decent) and you have some skills in your rotation. Its all about skills in the game, sometimes weaved in with Light or Heavy Attacks, sometimes just skill rotations. The rotation you use needs to make sense to you and your build, so it will be different for everyone. However, some skills will buff the next skill you use, or next set of skills you use, so maybe use that first. Some skills are Damage over Time, so apply those early, but don't spam them until you need to apply it again. Some skills are cheap cost damage dealers, so spam those, but not so quickly you use up your resources. Weaving in Light or Heavy Attacks, with or without animation canceling, can help.

Finally, combat in this game requires you to be Mobile, Agile and Hostile. Move around, attack from advantage. Learn to Block, Dodge Roll, Interrupt (Bash), Stay out of Red etc, and you can soon take very little damage while in combat, at least most of the time.

Now that you have read through this, here is my advice. Every zone now has a Magic or Stamina or Tanking set drop. The sets give more stats, or more regen or more attack power or similar. Pick something you need by looking at your character sheet while naked. You will either want to buff what already have a lot of, or bring up something you don't have a lot of. It all depends really. And, this is a perfect time to figure this out as you can farm a zone for a set, try it, then try another zone etc.

Note, by Farming, this can be just completing the zone's content, you will have plenty of chances to get some gear. It may not be in the best traits, but so what, it's the set bonuses that are much more important now.

Anyway, have gear in each slot that at least helps you, if not hurts you. If you have chance to, put magic enchants on anything that does not have a magic enchant now. You can buy glyphs, no need to make them so you can save your skill points for combat/defense skills.

Anyway, by the time you are at L50, you will have tried a few different sets and will have a good idea of what types of sets benefit your playstyle. Once you know that, then go out and farm for those specific sets in the good traits.

In the meantime, level your equipment crafting by deconning all the stuff your not going to use, no need to put any points into the skills yet. And, don't forget to research traits, as those allow you to make the good powerful sets.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    Level 12?

Put all of your points into stamina.
Pick up a weapon and bow, start leveling those skills.
Level up in the fighters guild and get dawnbreaker. Slot crit rush. Dizzying swing. Hurricane. Streak. Dark deal.
PVP for a couple of days to get vigor.
Pickup some proc sets like widow, viper, or velidreth.
Earn a set of black rose armor in imperial city.

It's not to late to be the strongest sorcerer spec in the game.

He's only level 12, wants to be a magicka sorc and you tell him to level up stam abilities and weapons and get cancer meta sets which will almost certainly be nerfed very soon...I hope you're taking the ***

My advise is to learn to walk before you can run. It's pointless comparing your damage to other players when you're a new player at level 12. Don't worry about gear too much until you get to max level, the important thing is to equip the weapon type you want to use long term so you level up that weapon skill, for instance inferno staff. Focus on learning the mechanics of your magicka sorc as you level up. The link below includes examples of levelling builds and end game builds (although you don't have to copy it, it explains skills etc):

I was half-joking, and half not.

If you think that meta is going to change anytime soon, you're smoking skooma. Magicka Sorc and magicka NB are a hard road that I would only recommend to a real stubborn die-hard. More people I know give up on it than succeed.
