best city for post-adventuring stop-off?

If its late at night in NA, I go to Rawl'Kha because day times there is too many people, trash talk and politics.

I have been going to Daggerfall as an alternative. The wayshrine is a bit of a walk, but everything else is fairly close together.

The key features of any post adventure drop-off spot are a Wayshrine, Crafting for all six crafts, Stable, Bank, a merchant for repairs, and an Outlaw's Refuge. If you do a lot of guild shopping (I almost never do), you might want guild traders nearby. And a dye station is useful, but only used rarely. Writ boards are nice if you're doing writs on a regular basis.

I've done all the zones, and it really comes down to two places, IMHO: Shornhelm or Rawl'kha.

My go-to place is Shornhelm in Rivenspire. The Blacksmith, Clothing, and Woodworking crafters, merchant, and stables are all within a few seconds ride from the way shrine and require no doors. The outlaw's refuge entrance is right there, and the bank is also right there, behind a door, and includes a fire for Provisioning. The guild traders are a little further away near the city entrance, and the Enchanting and Alchemy craft stations are behind doors a little further away from that. (But you often don't do any Alchemy, and I tend to save up my deconstruction of Glyphs for later...)

Most people prefer Rawl'kha in Reaper's March, but I find it too crowded. It's main advantages over Shornhelm are the alchemy and enchanting stations aren't behind doors and everything is closer to the way shrine. OTOH, there's stairs, half walls, and other obstacles scattered around which can stop a galloping horse in their tracks - I find maneuvering around the town much more difficult. And I'm more used to Shornhelm. Personal preference only.

The other places mentioned all have their flaws and limitations: Dhalmora has no Outlaw Refuge, Stables, Dye Station, or Guild Vendors, and the Wayshrine is a bit far away. Riften is great if you're looking for guild vendors, but the bank and the woodworking station are too far from the way shrine... in opposite directions. Ebonheart is great for guild vendors and a quick deconstruction run (all the crafts are right by the way shrine), but the bank, stables, outlaw's refuge, and a provisioning fire are all a bit too spread out and not as easy to access. Elden Root's way shrine, provisioning fire, and stables are all a distance from the main room with the bank and crafting stations. (And you can't mount in that main room...)

There is a dye station in dhalmora.

I always park my toons in wayrest, do all my decon and such there too.

But it's purely because daggerfall has the prettiest cities.

Bal foyen is one of the best places for this. There is literally everything you need in one building other than a cooking fire, stable or outlaws refuge. This really helps people with old computers or bad connections because there is no loading screen except for porting into the zone. There also is little to no guards in the zone and absolutely no guards in the building with all the crafting stations making it usable by people with bounties. Also the lack of cooking fire in the building is negated by there being one semi close by and, since there is no door to the building with the crafting stations, no loading screen to get to it.

There is a cooking fire in the middle of the room.

    Best spot would be Rawl'kha.

Riften has the bank, crafting stations, Outlaws Refuge, merchants, and guild traders all in the same area.

The Mages Guild (with the alchemy and enchanting tables) and the wayshrine are the only points that are separated ... but that is an extremely short ride or run.

Riften's only major problem is the stable. Why in the world would they put it OUTSIDE the walls with no quick way to get to it?

You know, it really bothers me that the city of Silvenar isn't a functional city, with stables, stores and stuff. It has the guilds, but that's it. I like its layout, and it would probably be my place of choice to hang out if it had the regular services a city should provide. Not because it is practical or anything, I just like the city.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Rawl'kha has everything, including portals to Earth Forge and Eyvea. Inside the city everything is close by. No other city has The Trading Stone! Every other city has at least one incovenience.

The same area has vampire and ww shrines and priest to cleanse them. Close by in S'ren-ja there is my favourite mansion under construction.

For me there is no extra loading times and i like the busy athmosphere. There is nearly always some friend or guildie in Rawl'kha allowing teleport-to-player.

My personal choice of "parking space" is Sentinel in the Alik'r desert. Very conveniently build (just one walk from the wayshrine to the crafting locations) and, very important, quite empty at most times. Nice to avoid long loading screens (Elden Root or Mournhold are bad examples here).

Most of my characters I park in Riften. Apart from the stables, everything is close together. Also less lag due to it being relatively quiet. Velyn Harbour's pretty good too. It's a pity Bal Foyen doesnt have stables or writ boards, it'd be ideal.

In other words...I've just finished a long quest line (or delve or dungeon or whatever), my bags are full, I need to hit a merchant to sell junk, all the various crafting stations to decon junk weapon/armor/glyph drops, bank/vault, perhaps an outlaw refuge...and preferably all these things as close to each other as possible, and reasonably close to the wayshrine.

In Pact zones, I think Stormhold in Shadowfen provides most of these things the closest together. But as a new player who just hit 50, I don't know anything about many of the cities in the other two zones.

So for you vets who have been around awhile...where is your favorite spot to empty bags etc?

Riften is the best all the crafting is one building that's not to the bank and a hideout.

Best town is in Cyrodiil. Just enter the campaign, there are crafting stations, horse trainer, vendors, banker, everything an adventurer would need. And best thing is you can get there with a simple press of L and E. So, you do not need to run to the wayshrine to get there, saving you time, effort, money, nerves...

I agree with this. Ive started my sessions in Riften as I can pick up writs and walk 3 seconds to the relevant craft station. The bank is next door to sell stuff on your traders and the wayshrine is 10 seconds away for easy access to belkarth. I may well move there when housing comes out and my skyrim code costume suits the style of the place perfectly

I really like Velyn Harbor in Malabal Tor, but you gotta finish the quest there before it being usable.

Everything is really close and it isn't full of people like Rawl'kha. Rawl'kha is very convenient when it comes to everything being in the same place but it is so full of people I generally avoid it.

I also like Marbruk, in Greenshade. It isn't as convenient as Velyn Harbor, but at least it is readily available without doing any quests.

Definitely Velyn Harbor for me. Absolutely wonderful location, just look at how close all the amenities are:

Belkarth in Craglorn all the way!
You only need to take a few steps to find the bank, crafting stations, merchants, and guild stores.
Once you have finished all your day to day duties you can go out and kill some monsters to test new gear, earn xp, socialise with other players etc etc

Strangely enough, it depends on your Alliance. AD's base is probably the best of the three.
