Why Can't ESO Have Depth to Crafting?

So playing Skyrim heavily again has me really looking at ESO like WTF. Why can't we have the same depth of crafting, if not deeper?

Like for example. Say we wanted more powerful enchantments. Why can't we craft a potion to drink to improve the effect of whatever we enchant, and then enchant something. Then place that enchantment on a piece of clothing, and essentially have crafting clothing for when we craft certain things? Basically making crafting worthwhile, and crafters more sought after for their skills.

And on the topic of this, why can't we be farmers? No, not farmers as in grinding for gear and hitting up ores and still laying about. But actually farmers like with the Hearthfire DLC. Imagine for a moment having your own garden of Columbine to go with your house that ZOS is implementing, and being able to grow some for your own needs. And they could have a cooldown similar to hirelings before new crops could be pulled. You know. Make crafting exciting and deeper. ._.

... Inb4 ZOS forum staff throw this in the crafting section and kill my thread. ;_;

    Great points, @Ch4mpTW ...

Agree, the greenhouse wing at my house in Hjallmarch was very nicely designed ... and produced alchemy ingredients based on which items I wanted to plant.

Still time for ZOS to look at this before they release housing on PTS ... even if you're limited to just one potted columbine per household ... ;)

@ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom Please show this to the guys in charge of the housing project, or share this concept with them.

As much as I love Skyrim, crafting is WAY, I mean WAY more advanced in ESO than there. Provisioning included too.

Farming will maybe come with housing. But good idea nonetheless.

Maybe they'll sell us the chance to have improved crafting drop from the crates.
Resistance is not futile! Say no to the Greed Collective™. Boycott Crown Crates.

ESO is a static game; it's essentially a refined Kingdom Heroes, as far as gameplay goes. In other words, take any generic MMO, slap on the skill leveling mechanic and "summonable" siege weapon NPCs, and 'ere we are.

    Static landscape.
    Static architecture.
    Static NPCs.
    Static quests.
    Static areas.
    Static campaigns.

We're not going to see a proper sandbox, a la Wurm Online, or Ultima Online with the UltimaLive extension; no terraforming, no leading NPC groups, no proper housing (find empty space, build house; no house instance), no changes to the environment, etc. etc.

That would require a robust renderer (I.E, uses Vulkan), as well as heavily parallel server code running on quality server hardware. Much cheaper to just have more of the same with some quality of life improvements.

Always asked myself why they went in such a locked game, whereas elder scroll have always been about being open world.

Would be quite a different game to rebuild to have :
    - players driven economy thus crafters, traders, commercial roads like in BDO.
    - non fighting class(es)
    - housing and crop management

I highly doubt they will ever even remotely go toward this, this game dev is well known now : new paying pve content for players satisfied with frozen basic game mechanics (crafting, classes, races, progression).

Well, the Elder Scrolls games have never been sandboxy. The only interactive feature that I've not seen ESO replicate, is the ability to place and move persistent items. Which is one hell of a feature, mind you. The possibility of hoarding items anywhere in the game world made Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 tolerable, and New Vegas a delight.

With a combination of many intensive mods, yeah the Bethesda games are sorta-kinda-not-really-but-looks-like-it dynamic. Vanilla, on the other hand, isn't remotely close.

I would love more complex crafting!

Of course, for me that would not mean drinking "doping" potions to craft better, but... have it more involved! Needing wood for axe hafts, leather for sword grip wrappings, metal for medium armor clasps and chainmail bits, or stave tips, whatever.

And more refining... needing coal to refine iron ore into ingots, have tin and copper ore to alloy into bronze, and have the more advanced metals be alloys as well... not just mine oricalcic ore, need steel to allow with your orichalcum to make the ingots to be turned into weapons, etc.

But then, I am a tinkerer at heart, with a mind ofor details, so I love those details in my crafting as well. And I expect many people playing ESO would prefer it simple instead...

I like crafting in ESO. That said I wish we would have crafting like in Fallen Earth where there was no junk and everything was used in crafting.
