Leveling and damage

New to the game and currently at level 14 PvE. I'm wondering when/if the trash enemies become less time consuming to kill. I'm a NB archer, but I haven't found any great gear for the character yet. Do the enemies just scale with my level and always take several shots to kill or is it a matter of leveling with luck for better gear? Thanks in advance!

Since One Tamriel, everything is max level and your character is scaled up. Since you are using a bow, I am assuming you are playing a stamina based character. Make sure you are using medium armor and anything that gives stamina. Because of the scaling, outleveling your gear will decrease the power of your character. If you open up the character stat screen, there are stars up in the corner, and you can mouse over that for an explanation of how the game is seeing the effectiveness of your equipment. There are a few different things going on here, though.

First, there is the gear. Since you are just starting, you are running with whatever you get as drops and quest rewards. Most likely you are leveling out of an area before you have a full set of gear that each zone offers as drops. There are crafted sets, but you most likely don't have the skills to make your own yet. Set bonuses make a difference.

Second, you don't have all your skills yet, and definitely don't have the morphs of those skills. You don't have all the passives of your class, weapon, armor, and race skill lines to make things easier for you. You don't have the Champion Points to passively affect how you deal, receive, and mitigate damage. All that comes over time as you level and gain the skill/champion points to spend.

Third, there are not so obvious factors (for a new player) at work also. Are you keeping a food buff up? If you have an ultimate unlocked, are you using it enough? Have you spent your character points in the best way? What order are you using your skills (since some trigger buffs for a certain period of time)?

Since you are new to the game, you might want to visit the guild recruitment forums and see if you can find a guild. Having some friendly people that can craft some gear for you if you are not getting drops you need can be pretty handy. It also puts you in with a group of people that might be able to answer some questions without having to wait on a forum.

Excellent advice. I really appreciate that...I went over to the guild forums and will be looking for a good group to join up with.

Edit: what do you mean here? My character screen is missing one star because I think I'm using a couple of white/regular items. Still looking. I'm using as much stamina-related gear/skills as I can (I think) and that might be holding me back a bit. I have 5/5 set items (I'd have to log back in to remember the exact set), but it gives bonuses to health (1), magika (2), stamina (3), crit (4), and some change to do something on block. I think it's "sisters something" set :)

Basically the scaling works best when you have gear that is your level. Your gear doesn't improve with your character, and the amount of boost needed (determined by your current level/how far you are from 50/CP160) will decrease slightly each time you level up. That means that any gear that is several levels behind your current level is not being scaled to the extent it was when you were that level.

Basically, due to scaling, your level 10 gear will give you less stats when you are lvl 14 than it did when you were level 10. That makes sense, right? This goes for set gear (and the bonuses from sets) as well, but the bonuses keep the gear relevant/usable longer than individual non-set pieces would be.

I have rambled and deleted other stuff twice now and so will just leave it at that. Hopefully that answers your question!

yes, things become much easier to kill but not until you start wearing armor sets and making builds
you can do so now with crafted sets and farm for jewelry
i suggest redoing your sets every 10 levels
you'll get a feel for what's good and be able to test what you like while taking other's suggestions

also i highly recommend running a random normal dungeon as soon as you log in ever day for a free 400k exp

if you have any questions or would like any suggestions for armor sets, inbox me

Once you learn how to play more effectively and train your skills mobs become significantly easier to kill.
