XBox One controller - much better than the 360?

I had a bit of a break from the game recently and starting back I decided to try out the (still very beta) controller option on the PC. I'm finding that I'm enjoying using my wired XBox 360 controller and have noticed that the newer XBox One controllers can now be easily used on a PC. It looks like they've slightly redesigned the sticks and overhauled the D-Pad, but otherwise the 2 look very similar (which is a good thing).

However, the XBox One unit is pretty much twice the price of a (wired) 360 unit; has anyone tried both and formed an opinion the the XBox One controller is/isn't a worthwhile upgrade? There doesn't seem much point if they're pretty samey.

It's slightly better but not worth the upgrade unless you really want slightly nicer grip.

360 is better for lock picking... The rumble is just more intense when it should be...

One controller IMO is better because of the ability to use the chatpad, 360 never supported that iirc for Windows. I really don't think I could play this game via controller without the pad, so many non essential keybind options, on PC anyway.

actually the main advantage on the elite controler are the paddles at the back that allow you to re assign a command

A lot of people (including myself) use 2 of the 4 paddles, assigning weapon swapping & quick slot consumable activation to one of each paddle. thus allowing for smother activation, quicker response times & as a result increased performance (in whichever role you play)

He never said anything about the elite. If he thinks 60$ is an upgrade he has to think about I doubt he wants to drop 200$ for paddles.

when the original poster said newer xbox one controller & redessigned d-pad i assumed they meant the latest/newest xbox one controller

I just switched from the 360 controller to the XBone controller on my PC. I spent some time looking for feedback like this before making the switch because you're right, it's pretty pricy. For me, it was a good upgrade. The mushy DPad on the 360 always bugged me and the XBone just feels more responsive overall, with better construction in general. It just feels nicer. Obviously this is subjective but that's my 2 cents. Was worth every penny for me, the XBone controller is an excellent piece of hardware.

But the elite controller isn't the latest/newest xbox one controller. So the elite still has nothing to do with anything.

Thanks for the thoughts. I was thinking of the standard XBox One controller (newer and updated) compared to the original XBox 360 controller. I have seen the Elite version, which looks great, but is rather more than my wallet or very limited 'casual gamer' skill level can justify.

Most reviews seem to suggest that the original 360 controller was nigh on perfect, apart from the nasty D Pad which has been reworked for the XBox One.

What would be really great would be for ZOS to finish off the PC controller support (which is still in beta) and fix the bugs; if nothing else it would be great to have controller support at the character screen!

I used the 360 for years (using xpadder) and upgraded to a standard wired xbox one a few month's ago. Maybe it is slightly better, but not significantly. If my game pad breaks them I will go back to the 360 because it is cheaper.
