Game stopped working today (DirectX not supported)

After downloading a patch/hotfix today (11/12/16) the game stopped working. It produces a pop-up window with the "DirectX not supported" error. I am running Windows7 (64bit) with DirectX 11; the game was running fine last night. What can I do?
