I don't know about "easy to implement", but it's definitely on my list of Things That Wold Be Swell. I still think it's funny that every time this gets brought up, though, the devs think folks are asking to dye the fur/scale color of their mounts. XD Like, no, honey, we just want a saddle that matches our boot!

It's actually quite easy to implement. Would take less than a week to do this to all mounts in game. There aren't THAT many. For weapons i will take a little bit longer though.

But yes, i feel like i have to dye my armor after my mounts armor.... Should be the other way around i think.

Sorry, but I never believe anyone when they say that some tech/art thing is easy unless they can tell me
    • What tools the devs are using
    • The format of the data they're working with, and if it can be easily manipulated after generating the final product
    • The typical amount of time it would take for this particular task, and the number of times they would have to complete it to finish the workload
    • What other projects they're working on and if there is actually any ability to fit this in, without needing to hire additional "resources" (AKA artists)

So you know, normal workload assessment things.

It's precisely as useful as normal armor dye. For example, you can look good in a variety of colors on the Senche-Tiger mount, but you're probably going to clash horribly if you toggle the barding, speed upgrades, and bags on. The saddle, too, has its own color scheme which might limit your armor dye choices a bit. It would be better to coordinate your entire look, and while you can select a good variety of mounts, you're still limited by other factors of the mounts themselves.

I work in Maya and C4D on a daily basis. They should already have a template for each mount with armor as well as weapon templates for each weapon. The mount-armor itself should have it's own individual layer. It would really take less than 10 seconds to change color on anything.
    - What would really take long is the approval process from CD/AD. We have quite a few colors in-game as well as many different weapons/mounts. The approval process and changes is what will take long.
    - For sure this would easily be a side project as it doesn't really bring anything into the company, and hiring an artist on the side cost more money than actually using a staff member to do it who is most likely too busy with other things.

Okay yeah that's much more believable now. Sorry for the suspicion, but so many folks on here say that things are easy not from any technical experience, but because they want them to be easy and maybe if they keep saying it and believe really really hard, it will magically be so.

I too was like you until I read cd projekt red's take on making micro dlc and reskins. They said it takes seconds or 5 minutes if it's something larger if you're working from templates that are already in the game. The main issue is, messing around with any code, regardless of size can have a knock on effect and when people demand small changes it's not a case of changing just that part of the code, it's about making sure it's not creating a larger issue elsewhere.

I would prefer a complete mount system!

Not just recolorings, but... different armor/saddle/saddlebag styles to choose from, possibly even some with effects! Use the oversized saddlebags, get +10 carry but also -10 speed; use the heavy horse armor, get a damage reduction to attacks while mounted, but also -10 speed; use the light saddpe, get +10 speed but -10 stamina... and so on...
