Playing Both ESO & Skyrim Causing Awkwardness

I'm noticing that I'm having trouble going between the 2 games at the moment, and was wondering if anyone has experienced this and or knows a way of how to be fluent and proficient in both games on the same platform.

I suppose the reason why it effects me so much going between these 2 games, is because they're both Elder Scrolls titles (I know it sounds silly). But like, when I was playing Skyrim previously back on PS3 — I wasn't playing other Elder Scrolls games. So things felt 'natural' to me. Then years later when playing ESO on PS4, I hadn't touched Skyrim in a long time. Thus ESO felt 'natural' to me upon picking up. Granted that I originally started ESO on Mac, but then transferred to PS4 months later. But now playing ESO and Skyrim on PS4 feels incredibly awkward to me (command/control-wise). I suppose because the system for combat are so dramatically different. But anyway, if anyone can give some advise on how making the transitions between the 2 easier, I'd appreciate it greatly. Because this is throwing me through a loop. Lol.

I have always used an Xbox controller for Skyrim (through a wireless USB adapter) using the keyboard only for console commands. I defaulted to that for the Skyrim re-release as well. This way, ESO kb+m controls still feel "right", and Skyrim controller controls still feel "right".

The UI on the other hand...

LOL! That's what I'm saying. The UI. Like I'll press "O" to access to the menu on ESO, when that's the menu command for Skyrim. But then on Skyrim press the wrong buttton to access the menu there. I also a few moments ago fired off my race ability on Skyrim by accident when attacked by a wolf, expecting my 'ultimate' to go off. Then I remembered that it's Skyrim, and I have no 'ultimates'. Just a race ability and shouts. Lmao. :D

I'm impressed that you are still able to keep playing Skyrim this long. After I did every quest/achievement in all DLC's there just wasn't much left to keep my attention. Skyrim also doesn't have the same level of replayability as Morrowind.

Heh. The combat feels different, yeah. I often catch myself trying to use the right mouse button to block in Skyrim and then just attacking with my other hand instead, because I'm used to blocking with the right mouse button in ESO with any weapon equipped.

And when back in ESO, I miss my custom companion Rumarin (Interesting NPCs mod) speaking nonsense while following me around.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.

I just run into that I can do so much in about 1 hour on ESO.

But damnit, walking into that cave on Skyrim at 9 at night...... *alarm goes off for work at 7 AM* :|

Skyrim is fantastic and has tons and tons and tons of things to do. It's not just about the quests to me, when I play things like: Skyrim, Witcher 3, Fallout 4, etc. It's about exploring, crafting, hunting, etc. Plus the housing DLC of Skyrim is included, and I'm 1 of those people who decks their houses/properties out to the max. I'm talking books being organized, outfits being set perfectly on mannequins, weapons placed perfectly in cases, etc. I play Skyrim deeeeeeply. Lol. Even my gardens and grow rooms are set perfectly.

Plus PS4 has access to mods now on Skyrim, so once I have everything setup how I did on the PS3 version (which will take months/years) — it's time to get my hands dirty on those mods and tinker around a bit.

But! I'm really having issues going between the games, due to the differences of UI's and commands.

I haven't touched Skyrim since I started ESO, even though I haven't even embarked on the civil war questline yet. But I immediately recognized after starting ESO that the different commands would probably throw me off, so I've been sticking to this one.

I don't have any advice about switching back and forth since I've been avoiding it myself, but maybe keep a list of the commands for each game and pull it out when you play each one? :D

Not playing Skyrim, but I would certainly have the same problems. I remember coming to ESO after playing Battlefield 4 for two years and early on I once intentionally jumped from a light tower planning on deploying my parachute. Needless to say I had a lot less reason to get the two games confused.

I think I'm just going to have to quit ESO when I start playing Skyrim seriously unfortunately. Or rather quit until the next DLC arrives, and then return for a brief moment. Otherwise, I'm going to continue getting things mixed up and confused.

It's weird, because I've never experienced this type of awkwardness before. Like for example, I can play GTA:3 or GTA:4, then hop on GTA:5/Online no problem. And experience no sense of awkwardness at all. Or jump between say older Pokémon games and ORAS fluently. It doesn't effect me making those transitions, you know? But something about going between ESO and Skyrim is jamming me up badly. Plus since I go into 1st person for combat in Skyrim, I made that mistake in going into 1sf person in Maelstrom Arena. HORRIBLE idea. Please DO NOT go into Maelstrom in 1st person. You're asking for a wipe, if you do so.

Is it me or is skyrim so frikin hard to start out. I got rekd but trash over and over on the standard difficulty. And the length of some of these dungeons is immense. It's what we need in eso. Take that cavern that's part of the Oghma infinitum quest. It takes a hell of a long time to just walk through it proper atmospheric and just plain cool to be there.

Shame I can't lash into a dwemer centurion with ambush+sup attack+rapids+killers blade dawnbreaker combo. ...that I miss playing skyrim now. Plain regular thunder bolts and heavy attacks it is.

To be honest, what really feels awkward is playing Skyrim with a few dozen mods and then playing Skyrim SE.

Especially if you had so many mods in Skyrim and did such a sloppy job organizing them that you can't remember what is vanilla and what isn't, what is conflicting with what, what is causing the game to crash and such. Then you go play Skyrim SE with no mods and everything feels weird.

I guess I should be happy I could transfer my save with no issues despite the mods. I heard there were people who were unable to.

I spent a couple of days converting some old bsa files of abandoned Skyrim mods to the new type Skyrim SE uses and downloading updated mods that I considered essential, and now things are better.

Skyrim is a game that really makes you think to a certain degree, unlike ESO. It's 1 of those games where you really have to put yourself in your characters shoes sometimes, and just feel what's going on. This often leads to heavy immersion and "time sinks". Usually also resulting in just wandering about for no apparent reason, and just taking in your surroundings with awe. Like I can tell you tons of times of how in the middle of a quest, or in the middle of roaming through the middle of a cavern/dungeon/mine, I just paused and looked around. Then just walked about slowly examining everything. Thus causing what was supposed to be a quick 30min. run through of a location becoming a 2hr.+ analytical event. Lol. Meanwhile on ESO, none of this actually happens as there isn't that much immersion there. There's not too much to draw you in on that type of level, while the combat remains simplistic and based around rotations.

It had the basic combat of Morrowind without all the charm. Quests were boring, the character models looked weird, combat system was horrific to use (even worse than Morrowinds imho). The only thing Skryim offers is what most Bethesda games offer, and that's exploration. Though I even found exploring in Skyrim crap with the lack of walk in towns like you had in Morrowind, and I found exploring a little lackluster. Man, in Morrowind you'd never know what you'd find. Not going to lie, that used to make me incredibly angry when that would happen. Or if I would put my controller down the wrong way, or not carefully enough, and shout. Thus causing everything to go flying all about. I actually shouted once by accident by putting my controller down not carefully enough, and sent Lydia flying down a hill/mountain. Causing me to immediately open a quicksave in a panic, to undo what I had just did. >_<

It would be easier if you would just accept the inevitable and play both on the PC. But, alas, we work with what we have to work with.

What I would do on the PC is map the controls so that at least the main commands are on the same keys on both games. I have made ESO more like other Elder Scrolls titles. Like R is Ready Weapon. Anyway, maybe map your controllers so they are more alike than different.

I'm warning you now. Skyrim will cause you to lose track of time something fierce. We're talking worse than World of Warcraft, if you've ever played that game. As another commentor posted, it's frequent to start playing and literally hours go by while it feels like only minutes. It's scary. You can tell yourself that you're only going to play for an hour or two, and literally six hours will go by like nothing. It's crazy. Outside of Fallout 4 and Witcher 3, it's the only game to make me lose track of time like that.

Oblivion > Morrowind imo. Morrowind graphics were great for the time but I couldn't ever look at that now. The best part of these 2 games imo and very shamefully admit is the staring at the sky lol. I'd happily submit to Molag Bal if he ever existed just so long as he'd bring the pretty skies of Oblivion over the UK to get rid of the grey.
