Take Off Your Costumes!?

After my usual evenings of failure and humiliation in this game I often pop over to Twitch to watch competent players....behave competently. Gives me hope y'know :p

I'm watching this one large group doing Maw of Lorkhaj on the PS4.

Wow. This crew is really working it. Even the frequent blare of War Horns is coordinated.....in 3...2...1. Yeah, folks are dying. Sure, there is the occasional brain cramp here and there. But they're getting through it.

Then, in the final encounter there are a few party wipes. The raid leader calls for EVERYONE to TAKE OFF THEIR COSTUMES. Huh? Following that - not sure whether it was because of that - they finish up.

Just as the stream is about to go down the streamer asks if we have questions. I try to get my question in about WTF they removed their costumes but it's lost in the noise.

So....what was up with that? What evil do costumes do and, if there is some penalty associated with costumes, why did they wait until the last room to shed them?

Just costumes or did they do the last fight nekkid?
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I assume to see what gear they're wearing? If they kept dying perhaps someone was wearing troll sets or something. That's the only reason I could think of why a raid leader would order people to take off their costumes.

Costumes only have an effect on Log In, where players are Silhouettes until their Characters load. After that, they are the same load on the game as the armor we all wear anyway. Because the Costume replaces the Gear.

I could understand put your "Pets Away", or, "Put your Assistants Away" but this makes no sense.

Some animations don't cancel properly when wearing costumes. Cancelling the costumes makes sure you're animation cancelling effectively.

    @obscure7

Which ones do you know of? I have only one character that uses a costume, and she cancels just fine, but with a Destro Staff

Oh, I've known players to become so frustrated that they do end up fighting nude. But, no, they had gear.

I had a good audio feed, Al, and there was no talk of a gear inspection. Okay, so...this really does make no sense :*

Well, that Khajiit of yours certainly wears one.

Watching your latest video, he also appears to have developed a drinking problem. ;)

One my of characters does that for a living. She'd agree with you.

Wait until we get the Nordic Bather's Towel in the New Life's festival.
It will be mandatory to wear it.

Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

It would not surprise me, if the consoles actually have performance issues with too many people, in costume, at one time. That said, I've never played it on the consoles at all, so... *shrugs*
