Crafting Node solution. (Crafting lower lever gear)

We now have a problem with crafting nodes only dropping material for the current level of the player. This keeps crafters from easily crafting lower level gear.

Possible fix?
Have only one type of crafting material for each category (Raw Ore, Leather Scraps, Raw Jute (or whatever), Raw Wood). Then, when you are REFINING the material, you can choose what level to refine it as. The lower the material (Raw Hide), the more you get, but less chance for a quality “Tanner”. The higher the material (Shadow Hide), the less you get, but more of a chance for a quality “Tanner”.

Or just do your daily writs for 25 pieces of a low level mat each day for each toon. That adds up fast.

In addition, take your high level mats and sell them on traders for approx 40g per unit then buy the low level mats at approx 15g per unit.

Or just have the person you are crafting for gather the mats. Since lower level gear takes way less mats than CP 160 gear, it shouldn't take them long.

My suggestion is to have a spread of mats across the zones and let us use any mats to make any level gear. Just need more to make higher level stuff. Use the Material Passive to allow higher and higher tiers of gear to be made.

Either randomly distribute the nodes across the zones, or make the zones have a material preference where say 50/75% of the nodes are for one material type, the rest a random spread. So, we want to farm a certain type of material, then we go to that zone that has a preference for it.

No need to change the artwork, if we make something out of say Cotton, it looks like L26 (I think that is the level) gear always has, but it can have the stats and specs of a CP160 if we use enough mats.

I really love the lower tier materials much more so than Void and Ruby, which are kind of tacked on and neither of which takes dyes all that well (especially Ruby)
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

ZOS's solution is through crafting writs. When you turn in an EQUIPMENT CRAFTING WRIT, if you don't get a SURVEY, you get a SUPPLY BOX of like 20-30 pre-refined low level materials.

I never do equipment writs though since it eats through your materials so quickly.
I think your idea would be great but I don't see ZOS implementing something like that anytime soon. Unless it was a crown store item, lmao, like the mimic stones.
Pay 1000 crowns for 200 raw mimic material.
I can see them doing that.

For now I think the only realistic solution is to have a designated crafter that only has crafting skills allotted. Then you can constantly be paying to respect so you can get lower level mats.
something I've considered doing is making a new character, power level all three equipment crafting lines, and only assign skill points to the first passive in each one. Then I only have to pay to reassign 30 points when I need to gather different mats.

(edit) There is also the obvious answer that I think ZOS might give you: If you need lower level mats, it's because you're crafting for a lower level character. So that character you're crafting for should be able to collect the mats you would need to craft something for them.

crafting for equipment needs its 1t upgrade to match the drop set overhaul.

item 3 addresses the lower crafting issue most directly. though item 5 does impact it as well.

To include some or all of:
    1. Ability to craft jewels for the sets even if quality limited to purple. (All drops have jewel options)
    2. Ability to up-scale pieces to higher level keeping quality. (new drops scale to you)
    3. Ability to craft lower gear with higher mat, losing the lower cap on met levels. (Fits with scaled nodes)
    4. Writs to ask for ONE item with a specific trait and style, but allow more items if you dont have trait/style. (cost effective change spreads resource cost over item types.)
    5. Writs no longer assign a material type or tier, but instead base their rewards on the tier the crafter used to satisfy the writ. if they provied iron dagger with sharpened and dunmer style, the gold, gear pieces and the 25pc mat box would be based off iron AND the chance of survey goes up as they provide higher tier payouts.
    6. Ability to change one of a set 2-3-4 pc bonus for another bonus of the same 2-3-4 pc type at time of crafting. (Allows for greater versatility without inventing new sets a plenty. Also can help some lesser sets.)
    7. Drop the 10x mats cost for CP160 over Cp150. (CP 160 drops everywhere now... its no longer s special threshold thing anymore. if you are cp160 every drop set is cp 160 not nine 150 and one 160. So the need for cp160 crafting to be 10x is no longer relevant.)

Not all of these my own but i think they go a long way for forming a comprehensive 1T upgrade/rebalance of equip crafted.

I am not a fan of just chasing the same dragon by trying to fix it by adding some more pre-defined sets here and there.

While i think all of these are worthwhile, i think 1-2-3 are critically important.

1t started the process, just needs to be carried through fully into crafted equipment.

I have yet to receive the lowest level of materials from writs, which is what I use to craft research pieces for people and to sell. All I ever get are mid-level mats I have no use for, and they don't sell easily. So that "fix" of theirs really was not a fix at all.

That said, I generally do as you mentioned and just sell what I have excess of and buy the low level mats I need. I also restatted one alt's crafting points back to 1 so she gets the lowest level mats 50% of the time when she harvests while questing. The material change hasn't been as much of a bother to me as I'd anticipated.

Why not just make it so nodes spawn mats that are appropriate for your CRAFTING level instead of your Character's level...

Would you believe that it was this way in scales content and ppl complained so it was changed.

You have to use skill points so ppl complained.

To the people who complain about nodes spawning mats according to your crafting level because that means you have to spend skill points to level crafting in order to get mats that are appropriate for your character's level:

You get plenty of skill points to be able to spend some in crafting in order to level that. Note that leveling crafting also levels your character (you get XP for crafting stuff), and by doing so then you get to make your own gear for your character. Also, by having complained and getting Zenimax to change that, you've ruined it for people like me who actually like to make crafting part of their gameplay.
Making nodes spawn mats for your crafting level makes the most sense....deal with it.
