Why the heck are riding lessons bound to character?

I've had this riding lesson scroll box in my inventory since they did whichever bundle i bought it from... I can't even bank it. What is this logic? Why would it be character bound and not account bound so i could transfer it?

I was already maxed at the time in my horse skills and wanted to give it to a different toon in future then realised it wasn't possible. feels like wasted money when the only option is destroy a crown store item.

Damn, I thought it was account bound! Not being able to give it to another character is just stupid. What the hell ZoS? Maybe submit a ticket to ask that they transfer it to another character?

    EDIT: Scratch that! See below.

Is there even a way to discern which items are account-bound or character bound just by looking at it? just plainly says "Bound" and i know of other low tier MMO's that at least specify Bound-by-account and Bound-by-character in the tooltips

anyway would ZoS even do that?

I can only assume it's because of the crown store cash cow that is riding lessons. They'll know people are more likely to buy this crap for alts rather than going through months of +1 all over again.

There's no way to tell that I know of. Trophies are collectable achievements so obviously character bound but not sure they are marked as such in the tooltip.

That..... really doesn't make any sense.. It's already a store item because people might wish to buy it instead of training for months... no logical leap why binding it correlates with improved sales on alts.. either way it's paid for and they make money, no reason at all to make it possible to essentially buy a pet rock that can only be destroyed.

But man, to the people answering about it's done for zos to make a profit re-read please. Far as i know, the lessons are 100% crown store obtainable only so the "thney do it to mak a profit" doesn't add up too well.

Oh yeah, duh! The number of times I've made that mistake! Especially with maps. Treasure map containers are bound to character but once you remove the maps from the container they are account bound. Forgot about that!

Sorry if you misunderstand but they actually are not account wide.
The scrolls are shared on your account but the lessons which I'm referring as the thread as well refers to are not account wide. Lessons are character specific.

Unless you do something like parking all of your alts next to the Stablemaster and during your daily quest rotation, log into each toon, then train your horse. I did that for 8 toons and all of them level the horse to 60/60/60 all at the same time.

However...you do make a good point because now I have two other toons that I have no interest in leveling the 'old way'. Even though I am currently doing that on both toons...I am sorely tempted to just purchase the skill from the crown store...

Yeah, I think it is 10 skill points for 1,000 crowns. So, 6,000 crowns (just over $39.99) to upgrade one tree or 18,000 crowns (just over $140.00) to fully upgrade your horse from 1 through the crown store.

However they were regular ones from the CS - maybe the bundled ones were bugged or just bound to char?

    @SolidusPrime
Not sure it's what you wrote but when purchasing the lessons it only gives you a 10 stack of scrolls to use. It doesn't max you out, it just gives you the option to read the scrolls and apply 1 lesson per scroll limited to one use on one character.

The scrolls can be used on any of your characters, one at a time for a total account use of 10.
There are three different types as well.

So if you have three characters and buy a speed lesson from the crown store, (read it before buying) it will give you a item that when opened, contains a 10 stack paper. You can read all 10 on one character and that character raises their speed by each scroll read only. Or you can use a few on one character and place the remaining scrolls in the bank and use on other characters once retrieved from the bank.

It really shouldn't require this much explanation. The things should just add 10 to all current and future characters.

As others have said, you can get riding lessons from the Stable Keepers at the rate of 1 per day. I have 7 characters with maxed out riding skills and never spent a crown on them.

I think the whole issue of coffers not being bankable dates to the early game when hireling mail used to come in a box and the contents scaled based on the character that opened them. And the same thing would apply to any of the other daily coffers too. So that's why you can't bank coffers, even if you can bank the contents after you've opened them.

    Money

Okay.... Does the government subsidise ZoS every time people buy items on their alts as opposed to their mains? If not, i don't see how 'money' is the answer.

If a restaurant has dine-in but won't do take away is the reason also 'money' even though they could have more turn-over for takeaway? or could it possibly be they aren't equipped to do take away (ei they don't have the plastic/paper containers to hold the food etc)

Anyway, Skayaq was right, the box was bound but the scrolls weren't. Never realised because i didn't want to have 2 lost inventory spaces as a result of thinking the scrolls would also be bound. but i find the 'money' based answers rather frustrating as it seems those people aren't reading or understanding that a crown store items price isn't based on whether you use a main or an alt.

When the game started, there weren't riding lessons. There were different horses. Basic horse cost 10,000 gold. Prices went up from there. Want to be fast? Buy the gaited horse that starts with more speed, and feed it the correct food every day to make it faster. Want stamina? Buy the right horse with the improved starting stats and feed it every day to max. Same with inventory space; I think it was the draft horse. The improved base stat horses cost in the 42,000 range.

I like the idea of the character getting skills; once I improve my characters, I can use any mount with any character and still get the same benefits, instead of needing to feed different foods to different horses to have speed/armor/inventory.

When the gam started there were always riding lessons.
The only difference is the lessons were per mount and per character.
