Just two examples of that at least 80% of the loot I get seems to be all the time :(

Welcome to my world. Takes me forever to get a weapon drop from world bosses and when I do its a staff for a set that is clearly meant for physical damage.

The smart loot system was poorly implemented. May not even be working at all.

They need to make this system work and actually work for all sets, not just the ones they deem fit.

It's absolutely outrageous how watered down the loot tables are in this game. At least in most MMOs you don't get magicka pieces for stamina sets and vice-versa.

Just FYI, the "smart loot" system was never billed as a way to prevent getting magicka weapons in stamina sets or vice-versa, it was only supposed to keep you from getting sets that boost melee damage on a bow or whatnot.

Kind of like a staff on a set that boost physical damage?

So a lightning staff for a set that boost weapon critical doesn't fall under the realm of what was not suppose to happen with this?

    I don't think so.

That's what I'm saying, the smart loot system does not prevent such a combination, just more nuanced aspects of set bonuses.

Should it work to prevent such combinations? Maybe, maybe not. There's plenty of reasons to want magicka sets on swords and, yes, sometimes even staffs in stamina sets. Automaton staffs are garbage, sure, but others may not be.

There needs to be a mechanism that tracks your number of completions of thing-X and once you hit triple digits you start getting serious about the item being:
    1) Armor - only in a weight that you are currently wearing. No more heavy for someone in all light, for example.
    2) Weapon - only a type that you have leveled and spent skill points in. No more bows for someone with a bow level of 3 and zero skill points spent there.
    3) Armor trait - only from the traits that you are currently wearing. No prosperous if you aren't wearing any. No divines if you are wearing all training. No infused if you are wearing divines and well fitted.
    4) Weapon trait - only from the list of role abilities you've spent points on and what you are using. No sharpened if your abilities are all healing and tanking role and gear traited defending. No defending if your skills are all dps role and you are wielding sharpened.

There would still be an amount of randomness. If you've got armor of 3 divines and 2 infused, a monster set well fitted and prosperous, then STFU if you receive a well fitted drop - it was in the list of what you have chosen to wear.

This would be true 'smart loot'.

There's a time and place to teach people that even if they put in extraordinarily overabundant amounts of effort they can still lose. A game is not that time or place.

Smart loot was to only prevent cases where the 5pc bonus could not trigger like melee dmg trigger on staff.

    Thats it

I have had stamina types use resto in back bar for healing. SO the first staff would be cool for that.

If they eliminated all the ones you dont want, someone else would lose out and you would lose a market opportunity 8n some cases.

Can someone explain how this Smart Loot works ?

Is it meant to be like a Destro staff will NEVER drop with stamina sets and vice versa

There is no smart loot system. It is something that people started talking about and spun into this mythical system that is suppose to stop messed up drops from happening.

They mentioned some very sepcific things that should not happen, meleee proc on a ranged set. And i think in the last patch didnt they add something else?

But there is no system. Just a set or two that have been tweaked. At leasted they tweaked another so it gives hope that they will continue.

Its total scope is if a set has a 5pc triggered effect like say "do melee damage" and its completely impossible for a weapon type to trigger that they wont combine in a weapon.

Some imagined it being much much more.

You still need swords to drop in mag sets like sharpened IA swords
